I drive in to Tijuana Mexico from San Diego California, to deal with Douchebag Tenants. I talk about the sights and sounds of Mexico. It's usually very fast and easy it is to cross into Mexico but difficult and long to cross back..

When you drive from Germany to Netherlands or from Netherlands to Germany and decide to use the freeway, you won't even notice that you entered the other country if you don't keep your eyes open for small country signs

Nice, I wish it was the same way here but unfortunately we have an income disparity with Mexico. If there wasn't border security, we would have millions of people migrating into the US everyday. I love traveling, I hope to see Germany and the Netherlands one day.

Hi Mr. Aramburo, More tijuana driving questions... Do you use google maps when in Tijuana? Is it reliable? Or do you have to drive a few times to really get used to navigating to and back to garitas of Otay and San ysidro?
@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 8 жыл бұрын
Hi. I dont use any gps, my mom use to live there so she has always been my guide and now I know to get around because of her. I wouldn't recommend using your phone as your gps unless your cell phone plan works in Mexico. If you really want to get around down there, I would recommend buying a stand alone gps with the Mexico maps. Also driving is TJ is more wild then the US so be ready for that.

So when you walk in they scan your passport and run a check on you for warrants and what not but if you drive in you basically just can drive right thru with no problems like 90% of the time??? When you drive in and IF they stop you and ask you for your passport do they scan and check it and look for warrants or whatever or just look at it and wave you thru???
@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 5 жыл бұрын
When you drive into Mexico, they usually just wave you through, every now and then they stop you. I don’t think that the Mexican customs agent has access to the US warrant database. When you drive or walk back into the US, the US customs agent will look you up, which means that it’s possible that they could detain you for a warrant.

I’ve driven in several times in the last year and the only time you are asked for ID is IF you’re stopped. They choose randomly, but even then it’s super quick. I’ve been asked for vehicle registration and only quickly “searched” ( a peek in our trunk) once. On your way back to the US ID is required but I have passed without a passport EVERY time and my son a student in the 8th grade passed too with only a birth certificate. Abel, thanks for sharing....can you make a video walking over on the “new” pedestrian walkway? Thx!

I can see on Google Earth satellite view where they are re building the crossing to Mexico again, where there are going to be exit controls, on the USA side, if needed. This new road to the border will connect directly into the current entry point in Mexico. Ever since 9/11, the USA has been putting exit controls at the land borders, and I can see from satellite views that one is being built into the San Ysidro crossing to connect into the current border crossing into Mexico.
@newmanc6619
@newmanc6619 4 жыл бұрын
That is going to change in 2020, when the government introduces "Real ID", where you will have to have either a passport, passport card, Sentri card, or a state drivers license that is Real ID compliant. Birth certificate will no longer be any good, and everyone will need one of those afformentioned forms of compliant ID to re enter the USA

There are a few things you need to know. Its always better if you have a valid US passport but you can get around using it, here is how: Get around using a Passport: 1) Driving across the border from USA into Mexico: They are currently not asking you to show your passport if you are driving but they could change it at any time. 2)Driving/Walking across the border from Mexico into USA: The US cannot stop you from entering the US if you are a US citizen but they can stop you for a while while they try to prove your identity. This could be an hour or all day. When you MUST have a Passport: 1) Walking across the border from the US into Mexico: The Mexican government in the last 2 years has started requiring that non-Mexican citizens start showing passports. If you don't have a passport then you are going to be stuck in their immigration process which could mean days of being stuck there. I hope you have fun in Mexico. Are you going for the food or night life?

Dear Mr. Aramburo, Is it hard to drive around those large roundabouts surrounding the statues? I want to start driving around in Tijuana so I don't have to rely on uber and taxis. Thanks
@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 8 жыл бұрын
+MrToriasdax Its not hard to drive in the roundabouts but you will have to adjust to driving in general. Driving in Tijuana is a little more aggressive than in San Diego. When I think of Mexico, I think of a slow and passive life style but NOT when it comes to driving. If your slow, they will honk at you. If you don't roll through a stop sign, they will take your turn. Oh, the buses and taxis are the Kings of the road, stay clear of them. But for all this aggression, I haven't seen any accidents. And if for some reason, your car stalls or breaks down, there are always plenty of people happy to help you out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the thorough response. Is it easy to drive through to otay or san ysidro at night? How long did it take for your car to get approved in sentri?
@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 8 жыл бұрын
+MrToriasdax I don't normally drive into Mexico at night, I usually go in the day time but there are a few occasions I have to go at night. its easy to cross at both Otay and San Ysidro at night, there usually isn't any traffic at night. The only time its hard to cross is during Rush Hour, roughly 3pm to 7pm. Avoid these times as much as possible, the Free Way is a parking lot. It took me a month before I got my appointment to get my Sentri pass. It took my wife 2 weeks to get her's. So appointment times very. It only took the CBP agent 10 mins to inspect my car, so it was quick. The Sentri process is simple, just make sure you have all the paperwork when you show up.

@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 6 жыл бұрын
We use to charge $100 a month for a 1 bedroom house but it wasn't very good and in a bad part of town. You can find places for rent anywhere from $300 to $1,000. I just saw a CraigsList ad for a 3 bedroom house for under $900 usd. I'm not too familiar with the crime rates in the different neighborhoods. But with those prices, even a neighborhood in a gated community would be affordable. Are you planning on moving to TJ?

@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 6 жыл бұрын
I've never lived there. At the most I've spend the weekend there. Its very compact and noise but fun. There are safe parts and dangerous parts. I would recommend doing some crime area research before picking a place to live. The neighborhoods are very different then in the US. There are food carts and many street corners and the people are very friendly. Some of the police are corrupt. They were going to arrest my brother for walking around at night for having alcohol, I'm not sure if that was illegal or not, but they said if he wanted he could just pay the fine directly to them and they would let him and his mom go. He paid the fine, they walked home.

I don't know if tinted windows are illegal. Tijuana cops are looking for anyone that sticks out, so really nice cars or US plates. They sell gas by the liter there. You would need to do liter to gallon conversion and then a peso to dollar conversion. Short answer gas costs more there than it does in the US. I know that the gas stations in Mexico are owned by the government and so there isn't an intensive to keep the cost low.
