We tried the A6 with the 3.0 supercharged engine. It was quick, but it just didn't sing to us. It was the previous generation A6 and we just didn't warm up to it. We retired our 2000 A6 2.7t Quattro after 16 years. We found almost the exact same car in the test; only a 2013 CPO at a local dealer. Couldn't be happier. Most everything that Matt said about the car was right on point. Before I bought it I even compared the hp & torque curves of this engine vs the 2.7T. Almost exactly the same in the most common rpm ranges. Of course the 2.7T would pull like a train at the higher end; but this car has been just fine for our primary car. It has plenty of zip when needed and is a quiet tourer. The Grapvine in Southern Cal is always a good test; and this car doesn't even blink. Even on the uphill sections I had to slow it down. This is our 6th Audi; we tried comparable Passats and some other competitors and there just wasn't the same subjective feel to them. We have taken care of our Audis and they have taken care of us. My 86 5000CS Quattro even gave it's life for my youngest son; when he was forced into a k rail at 70 mph.

There's a pattern developing with these new TEST/DRIVE reviews. Look back through all the reviews and here what they say. All the conclusions, all the filming, it's all the same. If you took out the actual name of the car itself then the 'exact' same commentary used in this video could just as easily be used for every single TEST/DRIVE video put out so far this year! I'm not hating on this channel, it's one of my favourites but these videos, as I said in a previous post, just seem like adverts paid for by the big car companies with an agreement that nothing really negative is allowed to be said. Disappointing! As for the car, in this guise at least, it seems very underwhelming.
@JasonBordeaux
@JasonBordeaux 10 жыл бұрын
/Dream Car Garage 1 (DCG1) Its not a pattern developing, it has been built in from the start. It has been clearly stated and a known fact that all 28 cars shot for this initial run of the TEST /DRIVE series were filmed in a less than a 48 hour period one weekend. This explains why there is a pattern to all of the videos. These videos are not meant so much for enthusiasts but for your everyday run-of-the-mill consumer. Each car was driven by 2-5 /DRIVE hosts and rated. Their ratings were then averaged and that is the rating we see. All of the cars were press cars and not one of the manufacturers paid /DRIVE for anything (filmed, said, or not said). And with their 4-5 minute average run time, there is only so much that can be covered. These were meant to be quick and concise, which they are. Obviously, these are not everyones cup of tea. But, this was a business decision to help bolster viewership and generate additional ad-revenue income to keep the "halo" content that you have come to love, enjoy, & expect from /DRIVE, free and continuous for the future.

/Dream Car Garage 1 (DCG1) They don't and they won't. I know one of the worst of the reviewed cars was the 370Z which earns the "avoid like the plague" rating. So far there have only been a few of "must haves" which I think of the true "likes". So far the cars reviewed have been from manufacturers that put out a decent product regardless whether you like the brand or not. So, you can't fault them for that. Also, we are what, 10 cars total into their review base. So in the current context, most of the review appear positive. But, I am sure once we see all 28 (and eventually even more), there will be a significantly higher spectrum and range of good and bad cars reviewed.
@TheSmokingTire
@TheSmokingTire 10 жыл бұрын
/Dream Car Garage 1 (DCG1) We didn't seek out any cars that are known to be terrible. We seeked out cars that are commonly seen around major cities being driven by "normal" people. Some cars we got based on availability, other cars we got because we'd heard good things about, and other cars we got as replacements for cars that became unavailable at the last minute. There is, quite literally, no motivation to say good things vs. bad things about any given car. There is no money in positive opinions from us.

Get it remapped, then you are probably looking at 260 hp at all 4 wheels and 300nm. I got the older engine, the 1.8T instead in an A3 chassis, remapped to 220 hp. That is plenty of power for an 1100 kilo daily driver 2 door hatchback, with reasonable fuel economy. But get it remapped, it really makes the engine come to life. Great review btw Matt

Jason Bordeaux i just hope they were more in depth or contained a bit more fun/testing. For exemple some off road testing for RRSport could have been fun to watch. If its really a boring car then have comparison instead (here 5series vs E vs A6) and maybe split it in two or three parts for viewership. But then if 28 cars were reviewed in 48h i guess the goal is really to just make us click(and yes we will) but it lowers the overall quality... just my humble opinion :)
@JasonBordeaux
@JasonBordeaux 10 жыл бұрын
Younes Moumni I do agree with you. But, I also understand why JF has made this decision. While there are lots of great reviews on the market, there was a hole in the availability of quick & concise reviews. I don't think there is a lack of quality over their normal content (because I know the time and dedication they put forth regardless of runtime or subject matter), but to many (myself included sometimes) there is somewhat a lack of enough information. Again, what an enthusiast expects out of a review does differ than what a consumer is looking for in the same time. And I get that.

The 3.0T version has the same engine as the S4 minus 23hp. The 8 speed auto is probably a little bit slower than the 7 speed DCT and the A6 has some more weight. But still that 3.0T engine would really liven up this car.
@2Fast4Mellow
@2Fast4Mellow 9 жыл бұрын
goatmonkey2112 It depends whether you have the multitronic or the tiptronic gearbox for the 2.0T. The multitronic is a CVT gearbox meaning it doesn't have actual gears. It has two pulleys that 'simulate' 8 gears. Because there isn't actual gear shifting the multitronic is faster than the dual clutch tiptronic, but the multitronic gearbox is not available for quattro drive. You can even tune the multitronic gearbox. I've changed mine that it is very efficient in normal drive, but when I put it in sport mode, the full 260HP keeps going. Gasoline is pretty pricey in Europe compared to the states. In Holland a gallon (3.8 liters) gasoline costs currently about 6.10 euro (6.80 US$). Prices are a bit lower in Germany, but it's the main reason why Audi spends soo much time on a 2.0T engine. It is the most common engine size. The VAG group now has a EA211 engine which produces 270HP using a 3 cylinder 1.0 liter engine. But I do have to admit that I sometimes miss the the raw power sound of my E46 M3 car which I had before my current A6. However the fuel efficiency of the Audi is better than the 520L. Where the Audi got a energy class A label, the BMW got stock with a B label meaning you have to pay a higher income tax on the BMW than the Audi meaning that for the same lease price you can outfit the Audi with some more exotic features..
@5bagsofpopcorn

This is a great car!! From me, as a european, the mileage would be a reason why i would choose the 2.0T over the 3.0.... and 200 hp are still enough to drive silly fast, which americans cant do, so why would u rather take the car that costs you more.... and why would u take a a6 out to the track? then youd need to have a the rs6 or s6 at least.
@jimmyhoffa9

Rick Cosmo Yes it is. For what it is, it's quite competitive compared to say the BMW, and probably Mercedes too. Not to much compared to the Jaguar XF, but those aren't the most reliable beasts around. Now you can argue Cadillac makes a cheaper car, which they do. But then there cars are cheaper for a reason.
@5bagsofpopcorn
@5bagsofpopcorn 10 жыл бұрын
***** I think mercedes without awd is still more expensive than this one. And i dont think bmw even builds the small 3-series with awd. And why even bother comparing cadillac to bmw, mercedes and audi? lol
@jimmyhoffa9
@jimmyhoffa9 10 жыл бұрын
Masterlostfreaky BMW has xdrive for the 3 series and has had for a few years on limited markets, and only then with left hand drive. The new F30 is available with AWD in both left and right hand drive, but the 5 series still only left hand drive. Audi can undercut both companies by using the shared chassis's from VW, so their regular cars are a decent amount less than the equivalent BMW/Merc usually. Obviously Audi doesn't offer "drivers" cars, but then most of the 5 series/Merc's I see are 2.0 diesel company cars, the Merc's being nearly exclusively automatic, so it's not like BMW/Merc owners are having more fun, very few do any kind of canyon road driving and what not.

***** Yeah i just looked it up, i wasnt sure if they offered the small Motors with xdrive. The 316 doesnt get xdrive but from the 320 on they have it but im not sure if you can get the xdrive with a Manual. And yeah thats the Problem with Mercedes that theyre just putting in stupid Autos. its annoying as fuck because their old Manuals were just amazing, my dad has a w211 with a v6 and a Manual and that car is freaking amazing.

[matt farrah], you're like the anthony bourdain of our car culture - you always take us on an adventure to highlight the guys who tune their cars and make their dreams a reality, including your own de lorean. what can i say, i love all of the guys at /drive for your talent, perspective, passion, and personality - and although you guys are doing a good job with these new /testdrives, it just seems like those qualities are almost "wasted" on "normal cars".

If you make the right choices with this car, it can look VERY beautiful. Interior and exterior. Like an RS6!!! The engine can by tuned lightly and you will see an other car. Just think about it. I have a 2011 Audi A4 the 120hp version. I tuned it with ONLY a revo programm and it is now 230hp!!! I won an Audi TT 225hp and a peugeot 207 leman edition 180hp by 4 cars length... So believe me when I say that when you tune this thing just a little, it can be a hole different car in terms of speed

nobody buys a 53k audi with a 2.0 to tune it lol. there is nothing that justifys purchasing this trash. engine is too small for such a big car. your a4 was quick after a tune because it probably weighs hundreds of pounds less than this. also which 2011 a4 has 120hp? the only one i can find is the diesel.
@SpyrosFougias
@SpyrosFougias 10 жыл бұрын
Ryan Partlow A4 1.8 TFSI Limited (B8 platform) and it is petrol not a diesel. The diesel you are talking about is a 2.0. My A4 is 1.8 2011 model. And a programm tune, is nothing. You only do it if you want something more!!! My A4 had only 0.2bar boost and now it has 0.9bar with 1.1over. This is the only difference. So what I'm saying is that if you want something more, you can tune it a little.

If you want a true drivers car...audi will never beat BMW in that respect, thats a fact

CarsFan69 Dude, you are out off topic. A6 is about family, about all weather conditions. If I want a true drivers car and I have to pick an Audi or a BMW, I would choose the Audi R8 V10. BMW doesn't have something better for a true drivers car. But as I said, you are out off topic.
@CarsFanTV

Spyros Fougias you didnt get my point, ill be more specific...a bmw 5 series is better than an audi a6 if you are looking for a drivers car, in every respect. You dont have to buy an R8 to get a drivers car man, really.

28mpg city? Really?
@tdm1995
@tdm1995 6 жыл бұрын
he definitely misspoke on that... it's 20 MPG city. Maybe the TDI gets 28 city - but that's not what he's driving... i kinda want to wait till prices on used 2016 2.0T come down a bit -- that one has a lot more HP and - well, 22 city 32 highway. BMW 528i is still better on the MPG front. Decisions decisions...

At least it's quattro, i've been seeing waay too many FWD A6's lately.The rear end looks meh. The front doesn't tickle my fancy anymore. The wood is ghetto, but it's ok overall. long live OPPO!!!! :]

Looks nice until the maintenance kicks in, lol. I dunno even if I had the $$$ for an A6 (talking about straight cash) I still wouldn't get it. Not sure if you guys/gals have seen the interior of the new Mazda 6, but I would take that over this Audi anyday; especially once that 2.5l diesel hits!! Hopefully it'll be AWD ...

The A6 is obviously just an A4 XL (and an A8 is an A4 XXL), WTF would you choose this over the E-class if you're using looks as an argument? Yeah, looks are a matter of taste and whatever, but we're talking about pricey cars here and the A6 looks like a fucking A4 and presence is at least half of it when it comes to a segment like this.

"This is a very good car and we absolutely recommend it" Only 1% away from average. Just shows how stupid this rating system is.
@JasonBordeaux
@JasonBordeaux 10 жыл бұрын
Wurzelzwerg1212 faulty or not, it is the same system or rating applied to many things. Whether someone earns 100% or 90% scoring it is still an 'A' and that same logic is applied here. Even in the simplest rating system of pass/fail, the difference is generally 1% regardless where that point is on the scale. Although each of the cars are presented by one host in the video, each were driven by 2-5 /DRIVE hosts and they each scored the car individually. Then all of their scores were averaged and we are presented the averaged score. And instead of using the labels: A, B, C, D, & F for the rating, they have the phrasing we are shown. I am curious what is your better method for rating something?
@RMAGEDN740
@RMAGEDN740 10 жыл бұрын
i think the new ratings system is a good addition. i see what you mean by the percentages , but you must understand that the ratings are based on how the car stacks up against it's class competition. maybe they should change to a total point tally instead of a final percentage.
@Wurzelzwerg1212
@Wurzelzwerg1212 10 жыл бұрын
Jason Bordeaux My point is that the score does not reflect what Matt said in the video. If he had said: "This is a good car and we recommend it", I would be fine with the 70% rating. Surely "very" and "absolutely" are not words to discribe a car that is only 1/100 away from average. The rating is absolutely unnecessary. Everybody understands what Matt is saying.

TheSmokingTire Well... For example Audis quattro system can only shift 85% of the power to the back wheels if needed or 70% to the front. BMW's X-drive can shift 100% to the back or the front wheels, depending on where the power is needed. So, a bold statement indeed.

When I saw this video in my "what to watch" list, I thought it was the old video of A4 and that KZbin was going wonky! Lol! Smh, Almost all Audi cars look the same. Same grill, same head lights, tail lights, front/back bonnet etc. Good car, good engine and good quality but bit boring and dull IMO. I would choose the E class and 5 series over this.
