Just like Quantic Dream and Ready at Dawn too (I know Quantic Dream are still around but over half a decade since Detroit Become Human came out, you'd assume they are not around anymore). Gravity Rush didn't meet a deadline either in 2012 but they kept going and we got a sequel. If Sony HAD a new real numbered GT game ready to launch in 2015 or 16 then sure, close down Evolution but they had NOTHING to fill the void until GT7 in 2022. What were they thinking? And no, that cancer called GT Sport, the worst selling GT game to date (GT5 even beat it with less of a PS3 console install base), most certainly does not count.

Its mad how this game in 2014, on what was actually an underpowered console for its time, is rendering a real time GI with fully volumetric lighting and cloud system that is completely dynamic and never the same twice. At the time most racing games weren't even using screen space reflections, or if they did it was sparingly.

I remember buying my PS4 with this game and I was blown away with this game. I was so angry when the weather system was not available immediately but only got released through a later update. This was my go-to game on the PS4. For me this was a true performance benchmark for the PS4 and till this day one of the best looking racing games ever made. The weather system is unmatched.

Still got this game what a blast 10 year's ago.. i bought the weather dlc pack thing which is amazing and the cockpit view on here the water on the windscreen is bang on.... i just cant get my head round that this is 10years old and we have not seen anything in a racing game that comes anywhere near the effects grom this game and the weather... if you look at the short footage from the ip n coming EA wrc game its pathetic and were in 2023 10 years on it looks like were going backwards not forwards.... wish someone would resurrect driveclub and bring it upto date, it would blow every driving game away in graphics weather lighting fun....

This is definitely the best looking racing game out there to date. No amount of videos do it justice thanks to KZbin's video compression. This game is borderline stunning even today. Awesome graphics, decent physics. Even cars feels unique and nice to drive not only fast but slowly as well. And that is something no racing game has managed to do so far. Just a really good-looking enjoyable simcade.

Evolution Studios didn't quit Driveclub. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe fired Evolution Studios. In less than 2 years Driveclub was upgraded receiving the dynamic weather and snow you see here as well as getting a motorcycle expansion and an exclusive VR game... *IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS TIME!* Then SCEE (now SIEE), let go of some incredible talent when they closed Evolution Studios all because the game didn't generate enough revenue. The gamers showed graphics don't matter by skipping Driveclub (which has an awesome and very fun and long single player campaign) and as a result developers said "•••• it." This is why most don't put much effort into making graphically stellar games anymore. That all said we haven't a clue what Driveclub's budget actually was. It could've cost PS more to make Driveclub than HFW for all we know. If Driveclub cost as much to make as HFW (around 230 million dollars), but couldn't even come close to breaking even... I can see why SCEE would feel compelled to close the studio down.

Nice to see it was you channel of course. ^_^ Its unreal how years later there are STILL clowns putting up "60fps 4K" Driveclub videos on KZbin, with thumbnails that completely rip off your style.................and these videos are STILL lies that simply are uploaded at claiming to be "60fps" but are clearly captured vanilla footage at 30fps and passed off as 60. This footage just reminds me even more to this day how insane Sony were for shutting down Evolution studios. Imagine what they would have done with a sequel or 2 had they been given the chance? They even did the big Bikes expansion and its incredible on its own.

​@breathexd3156 Only for games with already unlocked framerates. The ps5 will push any unlocked framerate game passed the 30fps mark but there's no stupid name for it. No matter what MS says, you can't arbitrarily boost a games framerate if it's hard locked which unfortunately DC is. If a game doesn't have a code base somewhere in it for v-sync that can be changed(due to relations to a pc version) then it won't happen. That's why "fps boost" only works on select titles. If you play a game on ps5 without those limitations it will just run at a higher framerate, like second son. Even on ps4 it had an unlock framerate option.

Because gamers aren't a very smart bunch collectively. Only more than 5 years after Evolution Studios was closed down do gamers who never played this game but knew about it, look and say, "What a missed opportunity to make a sequel." Yeah... cause no one bought it. I did and I know this is why game devs don't try so hard anymore. NFS 2015 was also a looker, but I didn't buy it because it had forced online connectivity. Driveclub could be played offline (as in not connected to the internet, completely signed out, aka: off-grid). EA made things worse for NFS by forcing online only play, I haven't purchased a NFS game since... really when I think about it I prefer FH over NFS due to EA's lunacy.

@@VariantAEC You're really blaming the gamers? I love DriveClub in its final form, but it was constantly delayed and the whole PS+ version was a shitshow, and then the servers didn't work for months after launch. It was a complete mess. Gamers were right not to buy it when it came out.

What we got on launch day was a stellar single-player game with graphics that still blows almost every other game ever made away almost 10 years later to date. The only promise not delivered on launch was well working online play, and with that, PS kept the game from being available for free on PSN. So, one promise not delivered became two, but in the end, the only thing not delivered was a possibility of changing seasons. We ended up getting things no one even asked for, like the bikes expansion and a VR version of the game (which is still doing things users of GT7 VR wished GT7 VR had like having a passenger view in replays), all within 2 years before the studio was closed down. The support for Driveclub was seemingly endless, and while many consider 3 months being far too long to have stuff promised at launch like fully functioning online play because technically even MP was there at launch and worked it just didn't work well. I know, I was there on launch day. Most of the vitriol surrounding the game was not justified, and while a large portion of the game was marketed as having always online (AOL) features and those were spotty or unavailable at times on launch, the SP mode worked basically perfectly without any of it. The hate surrounding Driveclub was not only unjustified but long-lived in the gaming press and amongst certain groups, most of which had a grand total of zero members that ever even played the game. Now, long after the studio was closed, there are people coming out saying how much of a myth this game was and how they lamented not trying it... It really was the gamers who are to blame for this studios demise. It's not like it was even commonplace for PS first parties to underdeliver. It is possible that the game, even if it launched with 100% functionality, wouldn't have sold well, but I don't think that was the case here. Everyone I know who played it loved it, and while they have their issues with the game, they didn't see it as broken, even a large chunk of those who purchased it on launch day expecting those features to be there. For the very few who really wanted to love the SP and didn't stick around for MP to take off at least one admitted they missed out... Even though they can re-download the release and get all the upgrades of the initial release, including variable weather and all the visual improvments that came with it, new locations, new tracks, and many new cars. Some events will be locked out, meaning no variable weather in their SP campaign. They can only experience variable weather in quick races, and some vehicles are locked out entirely, including some, which could only be unlocked by joining a club and racing. My club data is part of my save game file, and therefore, I have access to all the club cars even after the servers were shut down. Clearly, Evolution Studios even thought about a future without online access for their games, too. They made Driveclub so that even without the internet, we keep our rewards. It's not something we get often these days, even in FH5; as an example (on PC, at least), we don't have perpetual access to paid content. Content, I specifically paid for, is locked to online check-ins in FH5, and it's disgusting that I have to connect just to access content that I already own in a game that is actually meant and advertised as being able to be played offline. Making matters worse is that I know the check-ins in Xbox games on PC are totally unnecessary because I can play the larger FH5 DLC packs like the Hot Wheels and Rally expansions - and all the DLC of FH4 and some DLC of other games purchased via the MS Store or Xbox PC app - completely offline without ever needing to check in... so why do I need to check in to use cars that I paid for as part of a pack? I have no clue. I don't have to stay online to keep using the cars. I check in and disconnect so MS gets their user engagement stat boost, and I get my purchased content back until I sign out of the desktop or restart the computer. Even post-mortem Driveclub is better than FH3 in that respect, maybe even FH2 (though I suspect MS isn't dumb enough to lock Xbox content purchased on a console to online check ins... though I also didn't think they would be dumb enough to fill the home screen with ad space either, and yes, I know Xbox 360 doesn't have dedicated ad space tiles on the homescreen anymore).

I wish Sony would enable a feature on the PS5 to allow 30 FPS games to run at 60 or 120 FPS (+ higher resolution) without needing an official patch.

You can't do that with a feature dude, the devs would need to go back and recode the game so it could run at a higher framerate.

​@TracerX This can be managed in software without patching a game. This "patch" is just a mod that flips the buffer faster. The game targets 16.667ms instead of 33.333ms with the mod. As some have stated, there are some trade-offs with stability, but they're pretty minimal. This suggests that Evolution Studios' engine was capable of delivering 60FPS if only PS4 could support that. Obviously, PS5 can handle 60FPS, but it would take a bit more tweaking to iron out the minor faults. If Evolution Studios were still around... we could've seen an official patch for PS4 Pro and PS5.
