Nicely done! That mileage sure does improve w/ better ignition on the RX-8, and people don't believe me sometimes when I tell them my MPGs. I paid an arm and a leg for my BHR kit T_T
@Drivenbymadness7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it sure does! I was so happy that i went' on a small trip just to enjoy how good the car feels after the upgrade. And usually i've put in 10€ of gas, and on the way back i had to refill. Now i've put 10€ and came back with no reserve light :D Yeah the BHR is quite expensive, and that's why many people never upgrade. But now they know that there's a cheaper alternative :)
@Snoopi257 жыл бұрын
I went to the ebay link you gave, and it showed me: 4 Ignition Coils on Plug Pack For Buick Cadillac Chevy GMC Isuzu V8 C1251 UF262 ($46). Are those the ones? Also, please make an update video, telling us how the coils are going after about a year or so. I've had misfire issues w/ my RX-8, and I asked the guy from BHR for replacements. He sent me a brand new pack of 4, w/ his updated version too, and I still misfire. I think it might be because of ECU, or something else. As it is, I've gotten the bad news that it smells like a rebuild is around the corner. Getting blow-by in my 2nd rotor :(

Thanks for getting this mod out to everyone Kristian. First thing everyone should upgrade to their RX8 IMHO. The second thing would be to replace the CAT with a midpipe. i am still without the car 2.5 months now. I bought fake spark plugs from a guy here in Greece (DO NOT BUY SPARK PLUGS FROM eBay Greece THEY ARE FAKE). Destroyed the CAT which in turn destroyed my engine. Hopefully by Wednesday I will be back up and running.

@cisjga7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the good words Kristian. All thanks should go to a guy called Chazz over at irishrotary.com, he started the DIY and to you for making a great video of it. What I do differently, is I take the ground cable straight to the battery instead of grounding to the engine. Does it matter? I don't know, but I figure it easier this way and the battery ground is the best ground. Also I plug everything together and then bolt the bracket into the car, I have found that it can be difficult otherwise, due to space limits that make it difficult to plug all the harness in etc.

So judging by the pricing I'm guessing these are the knock off ls coils. Not a bad thing necessarily and they will handle a stock-ish rx8s demands... But just to note for ppl that are building their 8 and considering this option it does have it's limits. If you are doing an NA build and staying around the 9k rpm limit these are perfectly fine,. 10k rpm limit will be stretching these a bit. They will do 10k but duration may be a problem. They will fatigue faster due to the increased load. If you are doing FI then you will want to get the Delco authentic coils. They have a higher tolerance and will last much longer on FI. Now the iffy one is if you are doing NA build but going to extremes and building it all up for higher rpm of 11-12k+ rpm limit then you will want the real Delco coils as well.. the cheaper ones will burn out quickly at that recharge rate and even the Delco ones won't like it much after 13k. So if you are really pushing the limits and going 13k+ rpm then you may need a new coil system or even build custom due to the insane charge time demands

I'm just about to do my own ignition upgrade. It's basically the same swap but with a ready made bracket (from Bennetbuilt) and I thought I'd review the process again while waking up and having my coffee. This is where I noticed you're using spark plugs for colder climates (RE8CL). I was always under the impression that Slovenia was a pretty warm country, so is there any reason you're not using the RE7CL's (For warmer climate)?
@Drivenbymadness6 жыл бұрын
Excellent, that very nice to hear man :) The reason was that i was too late to order the ones from the US, and i had to get them here is Slovenia. I wanted the RE7CL but they didn't have them in stock, and if i wanted to order them the price was 180€. Meanwhile the RE8CL were around 100€ and they were in stock. So to not risk having no spark at all for the video date, i took the RE8CL. But on the next spark plug change ill go with the RE7CL in the link of this video. Good luck on your install, and let me know if you like the upgrade :D

Oh boy, did I? Made a pretty serious difference for something as trivial as generating a spark. Normally the car would sound like an astma patient as it tried to start (would take about 2-3 seconds) Now it immediately pops into life. Maybe 0,5 sec? Possibly less. I thought the low to midrange torgue is what improved the most. Idle is smooth and steady and the car sounds more like a rotary. Consider me a happy camper! P.S. they sell the plugs in the Netherlands too at my go to cheap crap website "winparts.nl" I believe it cost me 130 euros for the 4 plugs together. Might be an option for the future if you dont want to pay import tax and have stuff sent half way around the world.
@Drivenbymadness6 жыл бұрын
Now that's what i like to hear! :D The difference is immense, and for the money, totally worth it. Thanks for the website, but even with import tax, they would still be cheaper than 130€ :P Cheers mate! Enjoy your new rx8 experience!

Manos, I think the bad comments come from bad plugs destroying the coils. I think if you keep the spark plugs fresh then I don't think you will have any problems. Hey i can see that you use RE 8CL but link from description show auction with re 7cl? So can I order 7cl or 8cl?
@potatochobit4 жыл бұрын
you can change spark plugs to be hotter or colder, mostly this is for turbo cars the correct one for a normal RX8 is RE7CL and RE9BT

yes they do but you will need different spark plug wires and a metal bracket so it's easier to just buy a reputable kit for sale.

@@bluspectre2042 its installed correctly, after much research seems like jdm rx8 ecu is locked, once it defect non genuine coil it will throw faults
@tinkeringstuffs65423 жыл бұрын
about the stronger pull then before .... every little bit of fuel econemy is actually you, needing to press the gas pedal less. The engine has more power so this seems to be quiet a doable and also in contrast to upgrades wich usally make the car faster, more sustanible and more robust

I got the perfect solution to that! I'll make a video about it in the coming months :) Rigid collar kit you say? I would like to know more about this. If you don't mind sharing your experience by sending me an email, so i can learn a bit :)

I changed my spark plugs yesterday and my coils and wires last month and I still have a check engine light and misfire.. P1352 Ignition Coil 'A' Primary Circuit I'm getting choices p1352-4 some help would be amazing please
@jairoumana45697 жыл бұрын
kealyrunkz You might want to check for compression. I had that problem over a year ago until I checked the compression and found it was low. Turned out I had a blown apex seal and it was causing the misfire code to pull up because of the faulty ignition from low compression. It might not be the same case for you though but worth a check. Delete the code of you can and drive for an hour or two. If it pops back up, test the engine for compression. I hope this helps.

What parts did you use?
@kealyrunkz7 жыл бұрын
Driven by madness I used ngk spark plugs and ngk spark plug wires and oem ignition coils. I'm not experiencing any low compression issues.. No slow start up or anything just a misfire

Help? I did the harness coil swap works well but now I have a permanent engine light telling me my coils are bad?
@Drivenbymadness6 жыл бұрын
ReapersNative yes, that happens because you have higher charge than normal. Simply reset the ecu by pumping the brakes 20x fast untill the oil pressure gauge moves. Then simply cancel the code 😊 enjoy them!
@callummackie90406 жыл бұрын
Driven by madness thank you! Do I do this with the car running or just ignition on?

@Drivenbymadness6 жыл бұрын
Car shut down. turn ignition on ( don't turn on the car). pump brakes 20x untill gauge goes up. ignition off. ignition on, turn on car. Connect OBD 2 scanner, detect code and cancel it. Go for a ride and keep an eye on it if it comes back. let me know

@realtruth977 жыл бұрын
Hey in order for this upgrade to work, you must ground the coils to the engine directly. Like right under the bracket that holds the coils. You can ground it there. If not the car will work but in low voltage.
@Drivenbymadness7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's what i did :)
@realtruth977 жыл бұрын
Cool bro. Now all you need is a computer tune up. Let me know who you use for the tune. I still need to get some things done to my car. I need a battery, tune, Sohn adapter, new transmission, clutch, re-install the catalyst, new MAF sensor, and maybe it will run like new again.
@Drivenbymadness7 жыл бұрын
Yup, i'll do the tune after the rebuild( if i'll have some money left ). Yup, that's quite a list, but a satisfying list non the less. The new trans & clutch will make one hell of a difference :D Good luck bro!

I did this upgrade about 10 months ago. 2 of the coils failed within 10k miles. I don’t recommend LS Coils, buy NGK coils. (Also for some reason when I swapped to LS coils my crankshaft sensor keeps throwing a Cel. No clue why, went back to NGK and it disappeared) I even replaced the crankshaft position sensor and it immediately was triggered…

Check when was the last time you replaced ignition system (spark plugs, wires, coils, battery, engine starter motor). If it was recently, get a compression test.

I did it too.LS2 coils.10mm wires plus racing spark plugs. In my opinion it doesnt worth it!!! Loss of power and engine light came on. But of course the engine starts all lot easier cold n hot and run smoother and a bit more economic...

Awesome! Glad to hear you had success with it :D
@philippos62906 жыл бұрын
yes my good friend but as i said yo you engine light came on..i reset ecu engine light off but after a few kms light came on again.resistanse is higher than stock coils.And also i loose some hp.in my opinion it doesnt worth it!!best coils are the newest C type with racing spark plug.i gain back my horse power and a few extra ponys more.
@Drivenbymadness6 жыл бұрын
Ops, i think i replied to the wrong comment. I apologize. Hmmm my engine light never came on... i guess it depends. So far that i know, only 1 person had issues with these coils, but it was his fault cause he didn't change the wires to thicker ones. After that it worked fine. In my opinion, when testing them, engine runs smoother, i definitely had an increase in high end power (actually feel the pull). I don't know why the CEL light comes on again, after some kilometers the ECU should adjust it. But i'm glad in the end you managed to get what you needed :) Sorry the coils didn't work out for you.
@philippos62906 жыл бұрын
its not a complete disaster.ad i said it runs smoother starys much easier.no smell of unburned fuel anymore but notisable loss of power and engine light on. no doubt that LS2 coils are better but depends which brand and quality.i bought them from usa but it seems are not good for RX8.Now i ve got a friends stock coils but the C series and racing plugs.Believe me huge diffetence.Its like i have a turbo in it.its alive again. anyway me and my buddies we are waiting for your next videos. thanx

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE COIL UPGRADE ALL THAT YOU SHOW ON THIS VIDEO ALL MAZDA ROTARY GUYS CAN DO BLINDFOLDED
@erniebrinkrotaryhemi73365 жыл бұрын
By: Cam VanDerHorst, Contributing Writer Mazda has made breakthroughs in rotary technology - and it may return to production soon. Fans of Mazda's rotary engine have spent years lamenting the loss of the unique powerplant and eagerly awaiting its return. In the face of ever-tightening emissions standards and ever-increasing fuel economy requirements, it has seemed - for a while now - that the rotary engine was doomed to remain a relic of the past. Perhaps more so than any other industry rumor, whispers of the rotary's triumphant return have appeared with unmatched regularity, only to wither and die on the vine just as quickly. However, this is no rumor - this comes straight from Ichiro Hirose, the executive in charge of powertrain development at Mazda. More Rotary Rumors: Rotary Fan Renders A Modern RX-7 For 2020 And Beyond Everyone At Mazda Is Dreaming Of A Rotary Sports Car, Says CEO The Australian motoring publication Drive had a chance to speak with Hirose at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, where Mazda was celebrating the reveal of their new CX-30. More important than a new crossover, however, was what was revealed about Mazda's developments in rotary engine technology. According to Hirsoe, what was originally intended as a range extender has grown to become a much more versatile powerplant in light of recent technological breakthroughs. He says that the new flexible rotary hybrid powerplant currently in development is so efficient that it could be sold in any market in the world - even markets with notoriously strict emissions regulations in place. Hirose went on to describe a setup similar to the Toyota Prius, in which the hybrid drivetrain has the versatility to not only generate electricity, but to actually power the drive wheels when needed. This technology, dubbed XEV, may make an appearance in production cars - at least in Australia, and, we'd imagine, Mazda's native Japan - within the next few years. That's perhaps the most promising news yet for the rotary engine faithful. While we may never get another car like the RX-7, we may indeed end up with something even better.
