BMW installs a plug-in hybrid powertrain in its biggest SUV. Offering a painless way to use less gasoline it also helps to meet those pesky governmental requirements.

I’m at the end of my 3 year lease on my 2016 X5 40e. With only 18k miles I’ve averaged 625-800 miles per tank fill up. (I actually kept receipts & records of the mileage.) The original sticker price was just over $70k & I absolutely love the many features, quality, style & solid construction of the vehicle so I’m looking to purchase it. Plus, within the first month of leasing it, I had a level 2 charging station installed in my garage, so I could always top off the charge for short trips. You get only 20 “e-miles” technically, but in the Sport mode, regenerative braking supplements the charging. I actually will toggle through the various driving modes; Eco-Pro, Comfort & Sport, as well as, Save, Auto & e-Drive every time I drive. Instead of braking, you can go into Comfort mode, then Sport to slow down the vehicle. Maybe I’m the only one doing this, but I like working the buttons while driving and I feel it maximizes my mpg & saves on the brake pads.

Hey man. Have you had any problems with it? We want to acquire a 2017 hybrid model because it seems it's cheaper than the petrol ones. Thanks!

Hi Tom, great review. I just sold my 2-year old 520d; how comfortable would you figure the backseats are on longer trips in this X5? Thanks so much!

What a beautiful color exterior, I don't see that color on the road very much, it sucks people usually go for black and or Alpine White. Don't get me wrong they look great as well but this is just so classy

Good review Tom thanks, very pricey for average person a $80k car must be for the 1% I read about.

Do they still sell the X5 diesel? I'd probably opt for that engine if possible, but the electric torque is killer on the eDrive model. Hard choice. Or is it?
@DrivenCarReviews8 жыл бұрын
+Jake Root Yes, the diesel is available. Decisions, decisions...

Define better. Better is what's best for you and you alone. They are all very good, buy what you need and what you love and you'll get "better".

Om my x5 hybrid 2016 i getting about 15 miles full ev mode, i get to 115km/hr on electric mode (will verify this again), I am running 95 octane Premium gasoline want switch to 92octane gas, on the gas tank it states 91-95 ron gasoline. Any one using lower octane gasoline?

@DrivenCarReviews8 жыл бұрын
+gary zhao I am 5'9" so really, I have to suggest sitting in one to find out
@RobertLeBlancPhoto8 жыл бұрын
+gary zhao Probably not, as the X5 is designed for drivers from 5'2" to 6'4". You might fit in the large Range Rover or the Escalade.
@rickslick7308 жыл бұрын
Yeah you might want to wait for the X7 that BMW is coming out with, that might be a little bigger for you
@RobertLeBlancPhoto8 жыл бұрын
Rick Smooth While the X7 will have a third row, the driver's seat still likely won't accommodate taller drivers than the X5 does. ;)
@rickslick7308 жыл бұрын
We don't know that before it comes out! he will have to sit in one first to make that judgment , because i have a x5 and i'm over 6 feet,and i don't even have to put the seat all the way back when i'm drive my 2nd gen x5 because i have plenty of legroom, keep in mind the x5 is base of the 5 series, the x7 is base of the 7 series ;)

Although I do like BMW, I hate how unreliable their turbo engines are.
@Kev500278 жыл бұрын
They're not really that unreliable. Still ahead of domestic auto makers, and miles ahead of Chrysler.

BMW ain't what it used to be, and they're coasting on the fumes of their previous handling reputation. Now they just make expensive luxury versions of what used to be excellent handling sedans and crossovers. Get your X3 or 2 series while they are still around.
@DrivenCarReviews8 жыл бұрын
+Bruno TaTa Or, maybe BMW is just offering people more product to choose from. BMWs can be ordered with various degrees of performance and handling, and M cars are still available for those who want ultimate go power. That said, Cadillac has done a tremendous job with driving dynamics. Too few drivers are cross shopping them I would suspect.

Pray tell, exactly who was begging for numb steering feel and detached handling vs older models in return for a .05 mpg improvement in fuel economy?
