Ford may have may have given up on the sedan marketplace but there's no question that they know how to design, build, and sell trucks! The Maverick's most obvious competitor, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, may be an appealing vehicle for consumers wanting an open bed version of a compact SUV but even Hyundai recoils from labelling it a "truck." They call the Santa Cruz is a "Sports Activity Vehicle, an SAV. Not so from Ford. No, Sir-ee. The Maverick wears its "truck" label proudly. From a sales standpoint, the Maverick is a brilliant vehicle. Every trim level is available with a 2.5L hybrid engine or a 2.0L turbo . MSRPs begin at $20K and top out in the low $30K neighborhood. And though it's not often mentioned individual consumers aren't the only source of revenue. The Maverick will sell like hotcakes to fleets, large and small. For businesses that need economical vehicles for local missions involving cargo, the hybrid versions of the Maverick are a godsend. Need to deliver drywall to a construction site? No need to use a full size F150. The hybrid Maverick can do the job at a fraction of the cost.

When I first saw the Maverick my first thought was city fleets. I see City owned trucks all the time, everywhere I go. Suddenly there's a small truck that gets excellent gas mileage, and still offers loads of utility? I wouldn't be surprised if the Maverick dominated the fleet market in the near future. But I was also surprised how much I liked it myself when I got the chance to sit in one. It felt really livable.

Nice to see a budget-friendly vehicle designed to be really functional. Most others tend to focus on wowing people with a fancy entertainment center and many screens. I think the Maverick will be a home run for Ford. They would sell even more if the hybrid could be had with AWD.

@@bikeman1x11 false a lot of people want them including me! I'm looking at trading my current F-150 in on a maverick hybrid as soon as I can because I don't need a 1/2 ton truck, and the prospect of getting 4x the gas mileage as my truck when I'm going to be stuck on an island where gas prices are going to be ridiculous and speed limits low sound like the perfect vehicle to me!
@timjohnson1199
@timjohnson1199 2 жыл бұрын
@@bikeman1x11 Not at all. The hybrids are totally clever and should have great reliability. They will still haul and carry a load as well as many light duty pickups. Then there's the incredible fuel mpg. If this would have been around 10 years ago you would see them all over the place.

Don't worry Tom, with today's high lumber prices we will soon see 2X4s sold in more afFORDable 4 foot lengths which will be just perfect for this 'truck'. The guys who designed the maverick did wayyy better than most auto designers. The interior functionality is so important. And I see so many stupid choices from other designers. This one JUST MAKES SENSE. MY ONLY COMPLAINT fan speed dial on the left temp control dial on the right. you can press in the temmp dial to turn it on and off. i think you should be able to press in the more available (being closer to your hand) fan speed dial to turn it off.

That comment about the center console being low to make it feel bigger is a big one. Years ago we went to check out a new Escalade and the center console was so huge we didn't even bother with a test drive. What's the point of a big vehicle that feels cramped? Unfortunately a lot of full size trucks and big SUVs are that way. More space than they know what to do with.

They missed the bed width by 1/2"!!! As a cabinet maker this truck was the perfect fit for until I went to pick up some 4 x 8 sheets of 3/4'' melamine. They come in at 49'' x 97'' to allow for trimming and do not fit in this bed as designed for plywood. I hope Ford will fix this in a future model when I will sell my current Maverick to have that 1/2''!!!

The only problem is Ford has forgotten how to manufacture and deliver a vehicle. The other issue is that dealers will hate them. In their minds these are taking away from a sales commission on nice F-150 sale as if the average Joe can afford $65,000 to buy a truck.

I think it will be very successful for the brand and it's obvious they spent a lot of time in development for a car that will be very affordable to a wide demographic. People are walking away from wagons for vehicles like this now whereas a few decades ago they were odd ducks. Remember the Subaru Brat? Now we have the Maverick (which was a car!) and Santa Cruz too which is great for those looking for an alternative to the typical SUV solution. Another DIY friendly aspect of this truck is Ford released the FITS geometry to the hobby 3D printing community so there are tons of free designs on the various 3D model repositories across the internet. It was actually this act that brought the Maverick to my attention. I'm in the market for a new vehicle (specifically looking for a hybrid) and am now interested in the Maverick. Unfortunately for me the demand so out stripped availability that Ford stopped taking new custom orders for the hybrids back in November and I only started looking at cars in the past month... I'll have to wait for the '23 model year to customize my own (will be looking to build something similar to the XLT Luxe w/ CoPilot360 and a few other dealer installed options for under $30k).

It would be an amazing truck, if they can deliver in a timely way. Or for that matter deliver them without recalls from the factory. Waited half a year for mine. I'm told backlogged recall part won't take forever, but it sure feels like it.

I was worried at first that you were talking about a different kind of hack. I have my Maverick on order and just waiting for it to come in. I traded my Silverado for it because I just don't need a truck that size anymore. I've waited for a small truck for so long that I'm happy to see Ford fulfill the small truck gap. I loved my 2000 Ranger and it sure earn it's keep. I'm hoping this truck is just as good if not better than that one. I don't know about adding a lot of things to it for now, but I'm glad to see that I can do it at another time.

if you got it, how do you feel about it now?

@@dropz_eleventy I didn't end up getting one. Like most dealers they tried to screw me on the price. I cancelled the order. I still got rid of the POS Silverado. I'm not going to get one in the future. Ford needs to reign in their dealerships behavior (like most companies). I'll drive my prius until I can find a truck that won't be such a hassle to buy

The biggest issues I see with it right now are the lack of an AWD hybrid option (yes, I understand that Ford almost always holds things back at launch but it seems they REALLY misjudged the demand for the hybrid.) and the current $3,000 to $10,000 dealer markups over MSRP. I'll just wait until the insanity settles down and Ford to get around to offering AWD on the hybrid. (It's available on Escape hybrid so it's just a matter of them adapting it to Maverick.)

Pretty sure it didn't misjudge. Word is the hybrid version uses more processors so Ford is smart to build more EcoBoost models.

I absolutely love my Ford Maverick! I didn't have a big vehicle budget and I mostly needed a car for commuting but it's been absolutely phenomenal. I impress everyone with it's mpg (hybrid) and flexibility.

I’m seeing more and more of these on the road. I just wish the interior was bigger. If it was, I would own one.

The interior is actually bigger than a Toyota Tacoma. I am 6'1" and 240lbs. I am EXTREMELY comfortable in it! And the heated steering wheel is a great thing I have never had before.

I've been looking to replace my 2004 Sport Trac, which Ford stopped making in 2010. I want to keep the drivers door keyless entry combination keypad, tilting tinted moonroof, leather seats, and remote electrick rear mini-window. I have not been to the dealer yet, but is the mini-window on the Maverick only available in a manually opening format? And don't they make a leather seat option package?

This reminds me of my parents' first truck, the 1986 Nissan Hardbody compact pickup. This may be my next vehicle.

I see this as a great truck for service companies, pickup bed, storage, apple carplay, 42 mpg city, 20k. Sounds great if you need 10 trucks for your company! Put a ladder rack on top and a bed topper on with a tool storage system in the back you have a great setup for daily service work for plumbers, electricians, handyman, internet companies, you name it. Maybe even add an eco boost v6 and make a cop car out of it!

For me, the two things that just struck me odd about the Hybrid is the plastic valve cover and the extensive use of one time hose clamps. Just seems chincy.

Can’t understand why they wouldn’t make the read seat fold flat to load stuff on. Flipping up the seat could be fine, if the floor was flat. “Ford Tough”, ha…, I used to sell Fords and I wouldn’t describe them that way.
