Driver 1 (1999) - PC Gameplay

Driver is an open-world driving game developed by Reflections Interactive and published by GT Interactive Software, released in 1999. In the game, players take on the role of John Tanner, an undercover cop infiltrating a criminal organization in Miami. The game is set in the 1970s and takes inspiration from classic car chase movies like "Bullitt" and "The French Connection." Tanner's objective is to take down a group of gangsters known as the "Castaldi Crime Family," who are responsible for a string of car thefts and robberies.

Damn, this game is 22 years old and i forgot how simple they were. But i do remember that the car did handle like a real 70's american mussle car, so no road handing at all and you need to shove it around corners like a wet mop, and i just loved that so much that i must have spend at least 1000 hours on playing this game.

Физика машины и ее управление в Драйвере были очень смачные. Чувствовался вес машины, ее инерционность и как работает подвеска. Из-за этого всякие погони, да и просто езда по городу выглядели кинематографично. ГТА, хоть и вышел гораздо позже и, как игра, спору нет, был безусловно шедевром, но вот физика там гораздо проще и сама езда менее зрелищная, более игрушечная.

This was GTA's inspiration. One of the coolest car games of the era. Interstate 76 was also huge back then but with lesser graphics. Still lovint thus after so many years!

I played both, and while I absolutely loved and enjoyed driver, GTA was still my favorite game ever. Still is. Never felt such excitement and joy as when I first discovered GTA.

We had this game at a summer daycare and I'd always ask the older, skilled kid to do the tutorial for me. I was pretty good at everything else, but I always struggled doing those maneuvers they require you to do(despite not really needing them to beat the levels proper).

I remember a bug where if you saved a carnage mode replay, watched it, then went to "Take a drive" you would be in permanent carnage mode. you could pinch cars into the air hundreds of feet.

I will see how much of a "gamer" you are. I can beat Contra almost without any deaths. There is even a video on my channel with full playthrough of both: Contra 1 and Super C.

I was just agreeing the driver tutorial was hard being a kid and that by beating it I knew i destined become the avid gamer I am today beating games like metal gear solid 2, splinter cells, hitman games along the way right up to games like dark souls and elden ring of today. I'm now 26 so I could beat those games you just mentioned rather easy tbh.. deathless probably not but beat them nonetheless. Anyway keep gaming and love to Ukraine 🇺🇦 😊

(anything that rammed you flew away lol) i was 11-12 and had no idea how it happened but i remember when it went away i never liked the game as much as i had been.
