Driver 2 - Secret Landmarks - Ghost Town

In the desert, no one can hear you drift.
Located outside the urban nucleus of Las Vegas, Nevada this area is the 19th landmark of the eponymous series.
The definition of a Ghost Town, Calico, Nelson, Beat The Train, Destroy The Yard locations, urban myth,... we will once again cover a lot of different topics in a peaceful video with a calm ambient soundtrack because everything doesn't have to be too fast!
As expected, the gameplay footages were recorded in ReDriver 2, the great PC Port of the PC Version by Jellysoap!

I agree that the topic of the Secret Landmarks has shifted to "Unused" (as explained in my video on Fantasy Show Theater or Meig Field Airport I believe). I like how ghost town aren't a thing at all in Europe (well as desert you might say) and in Nevada, it's mostly the end of the gold mines that explains their "death" (economic activity).

At 2:51, you can see that some of the Ghost Town Driver 2 Vegas buildings are made up of old woodsided Union Pacific boxcars. When I first found that in Driver 2, which was 20 years ago, I was ecstatic! The Union Pacific Railroad still exists today and is one of my favorite American railroads. Thankfully Reflections didn't get into any legal trouble for including them in the game [presumably] without Union Pacific's permission, but at the same time, in my heart of hearts, I do wish the locomotives in Driver 2's Vegas would've been lettered in the real "Southern Pacific" name, which is now owned by Union Pacific, instead of the fictional "Sharratt Pacific", but that would've required permission from Union Pacific in order to do that legally.

@@VortexStory I wonder what other companies [accidently] made it into the Driver series without official licensing. Maybe you can make a separate video about that. We know that Union Pacific is one of them. By the way, after doing a little research, I have figured out that the Ghost Town in (or should I say outside of?) Vegas in Driver 2 is officially Rhyolite, NV; which is about a two hour drive away from Vegas in the real world, yet in Driver 2, it's only a two-minute drive away from Vegas lol. In my research, I found the real Union Pacific car that Reflections took photos of is there, and it's actually a caboose, not a boxcar. Several of the other abandoned buildings featured in Driver 2's Nevada Ghost Town are there in Rhyolite.

There's a similar town at the east of this Ghost Town; it's marked on the map but it hasn't any name. I always wondered what that place is. It looks kinda derelict too.

Yes I like it too because it shows more so when I wanted to say it's next to the "Beat the train" location, I can actucmnally show it! I don't know why it's laggy tho' as it wasn't the case on my screen when I was recording. For the Blender Tip, I need to determine which landmarks in Rio I want to discuss next

I don't want to sound impolite, but maybe the title "secret landmark " is no longer suitable for your recent videos. Maybe just "Landmark" is better. Love your videos though and I appreciate all of the effort you did to do a research about them. Just the title perhaps.

Thanks for the feedback, it's something I already adressed in a previous Landmarks video but yeah maybe I will change the title. This playlist is the only one consistent in the channel in terms of uploads so I don't want to change it too much, we will see!

I think I see which tracks you're refering to but it's just decorative, the tracks are not rendered further more than what the player can see

Las Vegas a finalement assez peu de "landmarks" (marqués en gris sur la map) hormis bien entendu le Strip et tous ses casinos que j'ai déjà eu l'occasion de comparer à GTA San Andreas et The Crew 2. Je réfléchis à d'autres endroits mais bien sûr je serai ravi de voir tes vidéos (notamment le fameux cut Monorail entre le Luxor et le Mandalay Bay!)

​@@VortexStory bah au pire, liste moi ce que tu souhaiterais que je te film. l'idée c'est de te faire ca pour toi avant tout. je vais tacher de me renseigner encore un peu sur ce qu'il y a a voir a Frisco et a LA également. mais du coup je note pour le luxor et le mandalay bay hotel casino. y'a l'aeroport qui m'interesse egalement, faut que je recherche si la zone secrete est basé sur un endroit qui existe (au cas ou) et puis les villes fantome dans les allentour . la vallé de la mort tt ca.
