This is not an uncommon situation for an additional party traveling together to also pull over while an officer is conducting a traffic stop. The last part of your statement is exactly what I said the way he went about it after the altercation with the trooper was the issue. He should have pulled ahead as there was no room behind the troopers patrol car. Let the trooper do his initial interaction. I’m sure the trooper would of asked if they were together or the occupant of the truck would have notified the trooper the guy in the SUV is the owner of the truck and he was just driving it for him. Then the guy could have approached the trooper while at his vehicle to notify him he was an additional party and the issue with why his tag was reported stolen.

The first cop mucked up by losing his head then called the second cop to make an unlawful stop. Lawfully the driver should have stopped for the blue lights but other than that they didn’t have a lawful stop. Lots of poisonous fruit.

That's where you're wrong. You need to follow the laws, but contempt of cop is not a crime. You should be courteous if he's courteous to you, but "respect" is irrelevant. There's no need to "respect" police for doing the job for which they're paid.
