I’m an o/o. I would park my truck for those rates and miles covered. I realize that most of trucking is this way! In actuality those o/o are actually getting maybe 20% of load revenue before taxes. Nope!

Don’t the insurance payments keep going even if you park the truck? Do you cancel your insurance when you decide to park it due to the transportation suits wanting to screw you out of a fair deal?

Thank you for the information. W2 LTL driver here for a big carrier. Sold my truck in 2009. Less headaches plus health benefits. Looks like O/O that run hard can still make it with good paying loads if they have a paid off and reliable truck. Are your driver's W2 or 1099? $1400 for a W2 after tax withholding is pretty decent.

Im assuming your company driver is 1099..so that $1400 after tax would be more like what would you say..$900 to $1000 maybe. Its rough out here I just flopped back over from reefer to specialized flatbed work after 6 years and it doesnt appear to be taking as hard as a hit as van work..good luck and great info!

You paid the company driver 25 percent and owner operator 70 percent? Is the after fuel purchase called DEF?
@Girlswhotruck

They get a percentage of the gross of the load. It is not after fuel. My drivers are not responsible for fuel purchases

freight coming out of florida is so low paying
@hoytballard5504
@hoytballard5504 9 ай бұрын
It’s always been that way and will never change. Florida is an import state and the only thing that comes out of there is agriculture varying times of the year. Bad part truck theft in Florida is the rates going in used to be pretty good but the fly by night carriers out of south Florida destroyed that market some years back and now they come out cheap and go in cheap. Along with the increased risks of truck theft doesn’t really make sense to haul into there often.

Trucker recession? Check the country of origin everytime you purchase a product. Then, take notice of how many containers are moved by rail. As long as Americans are willing to support foreign goods, there's no need for truckers.

I don't understand why an owner operator would work for that that's not good im a one man show I do 100% better than than how's a man gonna keep his truck up on that pay that's why they have to use your shop girl you need to do better for your owner better operator im not bashing you but I've been driving 27 years and owned trucks for 12 not good at all

Also she charges them no other fees. No IFTA, and they are running under her company's authority. Any other carrier would Nickle and Dime the driver to death in fees. Ask a Prime lease or owner operator what their fees are.

@Girlswhotruck I can't relate. I'm owner op in NC home daily. Cold months I run propane and butane within 250 miles from home. And warmer months stepdeck pretty much some distance. I typically make 75% of my money with the tanker and cherry pick stepdeck loads near me as I choose. I just couldn't imagine those numbers you mentioned for those drivers, but obviously way different commodity and location I suppose.

I’m not trying to be that guy, but there is no eight day work week. Your company driver ran in an entire week plus one day for $1400. That is crazy bad there are local jobs that actually pay more than that again not trying to be that guy, but that is crazy.
@Girlswhotruck

I don’t think there are any local jobs in Florida that would bring you home more than that but I could be wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️ if there are some I’m sure they are far and few between

A city driver at any LTL company in FL makes that at 45 hours a week. Linehaul would make way more than that depending on the run.

@@Girlswhotruck yeah that’d be LTL. I live in GA and have been at it for 38 years all together. LTL pays good and I did that for about 14 years or so at two different times. Work place politics are something else in that business. Last one I worked for was Old Dominion and it was by far the worst for that but it paid good if you could tolerate it. Needless to say I’m back in my own truck again. It’s rough right now but I ain’t going back to LTL. Too old for that anymore anyway.
