Wow, I used to take a train from Muran to Revuca with my mother back when I was a kid, and also had a trip to Plesivec with grandparents. But that was such a long time ago, I think last public train on that direction went like 10 years ago. They used to be small motorized trains with two vagons. Good times.

It was fun riding the branch lines around Slovakia, some were well used, others looked as though trains did not run regularly over the full length of the line. We did pass one or two local rail buses. I come from Britain where similar branch lines were closed in the 50' and 60's so visiting Slovakia gave a good insight into how British lines would look today had they survived.

Something I love about these Slovak trips is, it doesn't matter how moribund any station or depot might appear to be, so long as it's at least nominally active there's always *someone* working for the railway and dressed for the part visibly in attendance. Usually in hi-vis, often with a station-masterly peaked cap. Even when the train doesn't stop, they often appear to be standing to attention as the train passes. Not like here in the UK …
@Timsvideochannel15 жыл бұрын
I have noticed this in many European country's even Spain. The smartly dressed station master is often the signalman as well. Once the train has passed the hat comes off and peace returns until the next train. In China it is even more noticeable, especially on the high-speed trains, all the station staff smartly stand to attention and salute their opposite numbers on the train when it departs, it's quite reassuring. Sometimes I see train dispatchers on the platform in the UK, but as you say platform staff rarely acknowledge the train.

Sort-of reminds me of, perhaps, a run through the Liverpool Plains in Northern NSW after the train, an XPT Countrylink, emerges from the tunnel under the Liverpool Ranges on its way to Werris Creek, where the train splits, the first three carriages carrying on toward Tamworth and Armidale, the rear two shunt back to move on to the Gunnedah-to-Moree line. Single track all the way except for the passing loops. Great stuff, this! Cheers, Tim!

I should warn you that you won't be able to do your type of videos in Australia, a shame, really, but they're a bit strict about attaching cameras to our locos. Sorry to have to break it to you like this though. People like Tressteleg1 and Schony747 did it because they are, or were employees of the railways or tramways and their cameras were set up inside the cabin of the tram or loco they were driving. But you will be able to shoot video from your seat on whichever train you ride. Cheers!

that is a shame, because the way in which you shoot video makes the production that much more interesting to the viewer, and I'm not the only one who thinks so, as you'd see by other comments on this video. That the Australian rail authorities would loose out on some free publicity, that's their loss!

Czechoslovakia was a state in Central Europe, which existed (with a brief break during the Second World War) from October 28, 1918 to December 31, 1992. Czechoslovakia was established after the First World War as one of the successor states of Austria-Hungary. It included the territory of Bohemia, Moravia, Czech Silesia (south-eastern part of Silesia), Slovakia and until 1939 also Carpathian Ruthenia (Upper Hungary). Czechoslovakia ceased to exist on 31 December 1992 by division into the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic from 1 January 1993. [1] The official name of the state underwent a development according to how its political establishment changed. The official name from 1918 to 1920 was the Czechoslovak Republic or the Czecho-Slovak State. From 1920 to 1938, the name Czechoslovakia was used. The second Republic (1938-1939) used the name Czech-Slovak Republic. After the war, the name of the Czechoslovak Republic was used again until 1960. In 1960, in accordance with the ideology of the ruling Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, the name of the state was changed to the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. In the preamble to the Constitution, the new name was justified by the victory of socialism in the country, which was to follow the transition to the final stage of history - communism. Along with the name, the national emblem was also changed. After the fall of the regime in 1989, the name of the state was changed to the Czechoslovak Federal Republic. After the protracted litigation, the name of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic, which was used until the end of the state on 31 December 1992, was eventually approved (incorrectly from the point of view of spelling rules). I wish nice day eva Slovakia is a beautiful, picturesque landscape, small but beautiful, people, at least most of them are friendly and nice, it does not live badly, but it can always be better, so my private opinion is that we should never be divided into Czech and Slovak republic, become self-sufficient, the older generation still perceives it as an incorrect step

Hello Eva, I am working at the moment, but when I saw your replies, I stopped to read them, they are really interesting, my knowledge of European history is not good, I learn far more from holidays than I ever learned at school, where most of the history taught, was about the USA and Commonwealth Countries. Although France was only a short sea crossing away, I knew very little about the French people or their History, apart from a day trip to Dieppe when I was twelve. French students used to come to our town, some even stayed with my family, eventually at fifteen I went on a foreign exchange trip for a month to Bourges in France. These early adventures made me curious about the world outside Britain, although getting married and having children put a temporary end to my travelling ambitions. When my children were still young we visited Italy and Yugoslavia (as it was then), they have fond memories of those early holidays. Apart from regular holidays to Spain, it wasn't until my children left home that I began travelling again, my son went to live in New Zealand, my eldest daughter moved first to Wales, then to Scotland, whilst my youngest daughter went to work in China for seven years. If I wanted to see my children, I had no choice but to travel. This evening, after work I will read your comments again, they are full of interesting facts and information. In many ways Britain, being an Island nation, never really felt a part of Europe, I think one of the reasons is our close ties with the English speaking world, such as the USA, Canada, India, New Zealand and Australia. As you are probably aware these are politically turbulent times in Britain as the country tries to work out whether its future should be tied to Europe or the English speaking world, people are split almost 50:50 in their opinions. You witnessed the break up of Czechoslovakia, so you probably understand the situation in Britain better than most. Thank you for taking time to write, I really appreciate it. Best wishes. Tim.

he Muránska Planina National Park with a wild mountain karst landscape and minimal human intervention is located on the border of Central and Eastern Slovakia. On the high brass stands the legends of the ruined Murán castle ruins. Muránska planina National Park declared in 1997 an area of approximately 203 hectares, with a protection zone of 217 hectares. Muránska Planina National Park Administration is located in Revúca. In its territory there are a number of karst strands, dives and barrels, more than 300 caves and 15 gorges. Its relief features shrubs, stunts, canyons, rock towers and rock windows. There is the lowest placed diarrhea in Slovakia (growing at an altitude of 750 m nm). The forests prevail from April through beechwood and fir beech trees to alpine spruces. About 1,400 higher plant species grow there. The most important plant in the area is the Daphne arbuscula - the endemite and the third mountain relic of Muránská planina. Naturally, there are large cats - the common wolf (Canis lupus), the brown bear (Ursus arctos) and the Lynx lynx lynx. The starting points for tourism are the villages Tisovec, Muráň and Červená Skala. Among the attractive starting points for tourists are also Závadka nad Hronom and Zbojská saddle. The biggest attraction, about 300 semi-wild horses that last most of the year on the surrounding pastures, is not to be missed by anyone coming to the Muránska planina area. Horse breeding started in Muráň in 1950. Over time there was a breed breed, Norikian Murano type, which is actually a hucula crossbreed and a Nordic horse. The purpose of breeding is horses suitable for agritourism or forestry. Muránska planina is today probably the only place in Slovakia, where horses live for most of the year in the wild. In the foothills they are exiled only in the winter months, for the rest of the period they freely salve the surrounding meadows.'m sending some information about the Muránska planina site. must be seen. (Google Translate) VIDEO VERY VERY NICE !!!!!!!, I

Thank you, your comment made interesting reading. I must return one day as I missed so much, the area is similar to one of my favourite places in New Zealand, often referred to as the "Forgotten World", it is an area of outstanding natural beauty, just as it would have looked if man had never discovered it. I love to see horses roaming free, there are a number of places in the UK where this happens, such as the "New Forrest" and "Exmoor". Wolves and big cats have disappeared from the UK countryside, it must be lovely to see them in the wild. Slovakia has so much to offer tourists, I am surprised it is not more popular with British holidaymakers, especially walkers, maybe one or two people will see these videos and be inspired to visit.

@@Timsvideochannel1 hello tim, I do not know why British tourists visit max. Bratislava, and they are no longer there, there are exceptions, for example, in Banská Štiavnica town there is a teacher from English and he is enthusiastic about Minsk Štianice. A bit of history: The site was inhabited in the Neolithic, in the 3rd century BC the Celtic seasonal settlements were set up and the gold in the river was plowed in the summer. Ceramics were found in one of the roofs, but the permanent residence was established in the Middle Ages. In 1075, gold mining was mentioned for the first time, the German colonists came from the 12th century, and in the middle of the 13th century the town rights became the city of the upper city. In 1380 Štiavnica together with the towns of Banská Bystrica and the Kremnické Association of Free Upper Towns created. In the 15th century during the conflicts between the Polish and Hungarian King Vladislav III. Ladislav Pohrobek was liberated and burned in 1442, and one year later, the earthquake suffered. It was restored by King Matyas Korvin, and in 1513 the city rights were restored. A mining rebellion broke out in 1525 and when Buddhists conquered the Turks in 1541, they built a double fortification around the city and the Old and New Chateaux. The schools were taken over by the Austrian state. In 1627 the gunpowder was first used in the next valleys, and in the following hundred years the city suffered greatly from the wars, Rákóczi's uprising, and in 1710 also more. However, record mining was recorded in 1690 when a total of 29 tons of silver and 605 kg of gold were produced in this area. But after Saturn's peace of 1711, the city could flourish again. For the purpose of mining, a unique set of artificial ponds and collecting canals, called taquy (from which Teich, pond), has been built around. Water served as a source of energy for propulsion of water column pumps, draining the local mines. In 1722, English Isaac Potter, with Austrian architect Josef Fischer of Erlach, built the first atmospheric steam engine on the European continent to drive these pumps. In 1735 a mining school was founded, and in 1770 it was extended to a mining academy. Until 1919, the Chancellery of the Chancellery of the Comoros and Counts was located here, which was responsible for mining, metallurgy and coinage throughout the territory of Hungary. In 1746 the first water main was built. During the reign of Empress Maria Theresa, the city grew fast, but in 1782 it reached 20,000 inhabitants and became the third largest city in Hungary, Bratislava and Debrecen. In the 19th century mining fell and the inhabitants moved elsewhere. In 1919, the town was conquered by the Hungarian Republic, and in 1939-1945 the city belonged to Hungary. More than 100 Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. In 1945, the remaining Germans were expelled, and the city gradually declined, although in 1949 a new railway line was opened to Hronská Dúbrava as a "Youth Building". In 1993, the historic core of the city was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and a year later the mining of the last painting ended. Kremnica (německy Kremnitz, maďarsky Körmöcbánya, latinsky Cremnicium) je město v Banskobystrickém kraji s bohatou hornickou a mincířskou tradicí. town of Kremnica The town of Kremnica is known for its rich history, children learn about it at elementary school, but although everyone has heard of it, only a small percentage of Slovaks have visited it. It is on the hills of the tourist routes and suffers from a lack of promotion. "Medieval Sleeping Cinderella", it occurred to me when I first sank historic square squares, mosque houses and the town castle complex. Everything is preserved, in an authentic environment, but as if covered by a gray web of time, unrecognized, underestimated ... At the same time, Kremnica is a very suitable place for a weekend family trip. Here you can visit the historical center with the city castle, the mint with the museum of coins, or take a picture of the SNP memorial. So if you belong to the lover of history, you are in the right place. The local gold mines were the richest in Europe throughout their time, and on 17 November 1328 king Karol Robert from Anjou settled in the village of Cremnychbana privileges of the free royal mining and mining town. Kremnica ducats, the so-called "florins", belonged to the most sought after coins in Europe, giving the city the "golden" attribute. Church of St. Katarines What was left of the glory here? Especially preserved architecture, centered on a large square. There was a special atmosphere inspired by minimal construction interventions. Virtually everything is as if it were hundreds of years ago. This includes a fairly small number of refreshments and virtually all-round side streets without tourist attractions. The dominant of the square, both visual and cultural, is the city fortification and the city castle, which consists of several historic buildings. Its most representative part is the Church of St. Katarines. It is possible to go to the old guard tower of the church, from where there is a wonderful view of the surrounding area. If you've already decided to follow the trail of history, the tour of these dominants can not be missed. You will not miss a massive plague pillar, almost in the middle of the square. It is a true artistic gem, beautifully crafted by sculptor Dionysius Sanetti, a prominent baroque sculptor. It is believed that gold and silver have been harvested in Kremnica and its surroundings since the 10th century, but the real boom of mining occurred only at the beginning of the 14th century. On November 17, 1328, King Charles I gave the Cremnybane village the privilege of a free royal mining and coinage. At the same time he founded a mint where gold coins - Hungarian florins and later ducats - were coined. At the same time, mining of precious horses - gold and silver was developed in Kremnica. In the Middle Ages an extensive system of mining galleries has arisen. Since the sixteenth century, a mining decline has occurred, which has been revived with the development of new mining and processing techniques. Mining moved out of the city's perimeter into the Kremnické minie area. However, in the 1970s mining was terminated and part of mining works was used as a mining museum. The city's dominant feature is the town's castle, which was built in the 13th-15th century. The castle, which was used to store extracted precious metals and coins, was fortified with two belts of walls, which had to be partially reduced in the 19th century due to undermining and endangered statics, which also involved other buildings in Kremnica. The dominant of the town castle is the Gothic Church of St. Catherine and others, Clock tower. Right behind the castle is square square Štefánikovo, which is surrounded by a number of valuable town houses. The dominant feature of the square is the Baroque Trinity Column from 1765 to 1772. It was erected in memory of the victims of the plague of 1710 and is considered to be the most beautiful column of this type in Slovakia. Its authors are local sculptor D. I. Staneti and Austrian sculptor M. Vogerle. The old city is enclosed by a belt of fortification walls, and to the south with the Lower Gate with barbarians (15th-16th centuries). The City Information Center is in the gate building. In the corner of Štefánik Square right under the castle stands a mint building, a place with a long tradition. From the middle of the 19th century, all Hungarian coins, then coins of Czechoslovakia and the Slovak Republic, were coined. After the entry of Slovakia into the eurozone, coins are being erected here, as well as coins from other countries. The site is managed by the National Bank of Slovakia. The guide is accessible to the historical part of the mint where the process of preparing and coining the coins is demonstrated. The new mint, where the coin is currently being sold, is equipped with a special gallery for security reasons, from where visitors can view the current mintage and coinage. Slovakia is perceived as a backward post-communist country, which our friends from Paris told us when they first visited Slovak, were afraid of it, and when they learned in the kremnica that their king (17 November 1328 king Karol Robert from Anjou settled in the village of Cremnychbana privileges of the free royal mining and mining town.)had not only imposed the kremnica of city rights but also had his sculpture, surprise, and even more surprised by the fact that the Kremnica, the Kremnicki mines are located "geographic center of Europe" and not much of the vein is built by a memorial of the fallen French partisans, they were shocked !!! And we had a similar reaction with the visit of our son-in-law friend from the United States, who was afraid to visit Slovakia, all of whom had been kidnapped, and when she saw how we live, how we humans and what a beautiful country is, it was also shocked. That's why I'm very grateful to Tim, because with your videos you show Slovakia to the world, thank eva

Hi Eva, I read this with great interest, Slovakia is not only beautiful with many fascinating buildings, it also has long and complicated history, most of it unknown to people in Britain. I wish I had visited Kremnica, I also looked it up on Wikipedia, I realise how much I missed, I would love to return one day to see some of the places you mention in your comment. Thank you for taking time to tell me more about Slovakia, I really appreciate it. Best wishes. Tim.
