I enjoyed this. I loved the public transport in and around Melbourne, I know a lot of people bag it but it was great for us Anoraks as line side access for photography is pretty unlimited unlike in the UK. I used to go to a pie shop called The Jolly Frog in Lilydale. I was living in Croydon at the time, I remember the old Hitachi stock too. Last time back there I spent quite a bit of time at Southern Cross photographing the V-Line Diesels and the XPT, there's a V-Line depot close by too in Adderley St, which I used to walk to past the pub that features in the film "Romper Stomper". I took photos there with no problems at all. There's a good viewing platform on Railway Place too. I would photo some of the freight trains at the container terminal on Dynon road and walked around a lot of depot there Gemco rail and the turntables. I would sometimes get asked what I was doing, just taking photos and people I found were great!

Melbourne has many great opportunities for lineside photography simply because there are very long stretches all over the place with absolutely no fencing whatsoever, with usually just a stretch of grass between you and the road. I heard that Perth is pretty solid against photography from stations and other railway property but provided you don’t get inside fences, most other states are pretty laid-back at least when it comes to confrontation. It’s great that you enjoyed your time in Melbourne. If you live in the right places and didn’t have to get to some of the more lightly populated areas, it is possible to live without a motorcar. You just need extra time to get there.

Used to catch the train from Croydon, Mooroolbark and Ringwood East on this line

You would not recognise Mooroolbark today with crossing removal work nearly finished!

Will you have any up to date videos in the near future?

When the crossing removals are complete, the whole process will be dealt with as much as practical. This is in effect the ‘Before’ record.

Good video, would you mind doing full journeys of the metro lines?
@tressteleg13 жыл бұрын
By Metro train lines, if you mean Melbourne suburban electric train lines, most of them have been covered already and you will find them in this link. Gradually I will fill the gaps. Metro is no more than the name of the operator. Driver's View Trains Melbourne kzbin.info/aero/PLLtOIHp49XNDtaNr2H41P2th0S56s6bIH

@@tressteleg1 I find ones prior to major rebuilds of interest to compare what has changed. One example , but pre much still photography, would be St Kilda to Windsor loop. Closed in 1863 or so , so no chance of that. But something like Box Hill and Nunawading above ground would be amazing.
@tressteleg13 жыл бұрын
I certainly don’t have anything taken before Box Hill went underground, not sure about Nunawading as I don’t at this minute know when it was modified.
@johnd88923 жыл бұрын
@@tressteleg1 checking Wikipedia for Nunawading says As part of the grade separation project to replace the Springvale Road level crossing, the original ground-level station closed on 18 December 2009 and was replaced by a new station in a cutting west of Springvale Road, which opened on 11 January 2010. Box Hill was done in the early eighties from memory.

Thanks for that. It was only near the start of this latest massive program to remove crossings that my train driver friend realised the potential for getting before, during, and after scenes of the various projects as an attempt to create a historical record. I think my earliest such video from him dates from 2015. Not living in Melbourne, unless I were interested, I would not have been chasing up crossing removal projects before that time.

@tressteleg13 жыл бұрын
I have the full run of this trip at night but there is nothing to see nearly all the time except a weak headlight on the tracks a few metres ahead of the train. I probably have better ones which will be posted when their turn comes.
@magoo98663 жыл бұрын
Yeah for the stretches in trees, but I'd be keen to see the urban lights and the lights on the station platforms. Gives a different mood than during the day
@tressteleg13 жыл бұрын
I will take another look at it, but suspect that at least 80% of it is nothing but dark bushland and likely to be of little interest to viewers.

Will Metro trains bring back guards at the end of the train
@tressteleg13 жыл бұрын
Why would they want to? For over 10 years, trains have been managing to run without guards. It’s just Sydney and Brisbane which still has them.
