A nice tram ride, but why two Shops called Spring Street so near🤔

The 48 used to go via Flinders St. when moved to Spring and Collins it had to use stops already in use for other routes. Weren’t you in Melbourne in March? How did it go?

@@tressteleg1 Yes i was there in March. We had a nice time in Melbourne. The weather was good. Not to hot, just right 👍 Melbourne hast changed a lot im the last 40 years. It was nice to see all the places of my childhood. We want to visit Australia again in 2 or 3 years and this time we want to See other places in Australia. Driving on the "wrong" side wasn't so hard. Good we only had a car for 3 days.

I’m pleased you had a nice time although I would have been surprised if you did. I also had to drive on the ‘wrong’ side of the road in rural Germany when my host suddenly got sick. It’s great to hear that next time you will try other cities. The are more efficient tham Melbourne

@@tressteleg1Melbourne was for me so nice because of my memories when i grone up. The City of Melbourne is nice. A lot of space, greens and parks. The traffic is Okay but some drivers are not the best. The tram system ist good and you can pay with your smartphone. This isn't common by public transport in germany.
@tressteleg15 ай бұрын
@@peterausfranken Thanks for those extra details. Just to clarify a couple of points - you say that some drivers are not good, - do you mean tram drivers or motorcar drivers? Personally I think the standard of tram driving in Melbourne often has a certain amount of “could not care less“. I’m surprised that payment by smartphone is not common in Germany. While it would not be my first choice of payment, it certainly is used by many. Also in some places, and this is not at all rare, an ordinary credit card can be used to pay for the fare just like the local MYIKI card or whatever is normal in the city.

This was a relatively fast trip, but the variation between peak and off-peak speeds on this route is insane. At 8am this route only achieves an average speed of about 14.5kmh in the peak direction to Melbourne Town Hall; 18kmh at midday.
@tressteleg15 ай бұрын
It is the same on nearly every route, a major reason being lack of traffic light priority for trams which rates Melbourne trams as second class.

Hey Tressteleg! Could you do another video of the L1 in Sydney? I believe the speeds have changed again, plus there are the new Urbos trams which would be really interesting to see
@tressteleg15 ай бұрын
Actually I just did it both ways in March. They are forever fiddling with speed limits, mostly down. I may do out to Dulwich Hill as a side by side comparison with Gold Coast, but to Central will be a first. In the past every driver told me to stop. Last year somehow a couple of stops were missing. This year OK. I can’t say when it will be at this stage but will be in mind.

Thx for video. I hope some times I could see your videos in 4K 😊

Well from memory this video came to 5 gig. I check-watch them on my OLED TV and the quality is great. KZbin cuts back the quality significantly.

What speed do these trams travel at?
@tressteleg15 ай бұрын
Trams are governed to a maximum of around 60km/h. Mostly you will ride between 40 and 60 with road speed limits.

@@tressteleg1 Thanks, looked a bit quicker. Very smooth.

@@colinl9018 The first bit would have been close to 60 - Saturday morning, little traffic, few passengers. Can’t go too fast or will get ahead of the timetable and have to stop.
