In this video, Steve examines the differences between a golf swing with a driver, or with an iron.
What modifications do we need to make to hit down on the iron with forward lean, yet up on the driver for the most clubhead speed and distance.

Of all the golf videos I've watched (which are embarrassingly many) you have the best ability I've seen to break things down and make it simple. I appreciate you're economy of words. Nothing unnecessary! Thanks Steve!

Another phenomenal lesson!! I’ve always played a driver swing and iron swing, but never realized they have so many similarities. Your demonstration makes a lot of sense! Thanks coach

Great video! I didn’t know about the positioning of the foot for different irons since I am new to the game. Every time I watch these videos I learn something of value. Thank you for the videos!

Thanks Steve saw your recent video about the iron swing. Thanks to you I am hitting driver straight and a better length. I have always had a problem duffing irons and trying to pick he ball clean off the turf. I am excited to try to hit irons properly and longer using the right arm/towel drill.

Brilliant original thinking, you’ve taken and improved Hogan’s explanation of stance changes for different clubs. These changes take into account D-plane theory without complicating the lesson by mentioning it. Thank you again Steve

I really enjoy the way you articulate and simplify the way the swing works and how to adjust the settings of “the machine” to make each tool do its job properly. Great lesson!

Great lesson, per usual. Most of my drives were trending left of target until you mentioned the Hogan right foot step back. Now everything is going dead straight. Same with hybrids & irons as I moved ball position in stance and went from closed to open stance the higher the club. Duh!

Great stuff especially in combination with your left and right arm swing videos. I have incorporated single arm swings, with my left foot in front of my right as part of my pre game warm up. It helps remind me to swing in balance without swaying. Mentally it helps with those first tee jitters and you get Purina!

Hello. Is the 2 inch hip bump towards the target and slight right knee flex the same for the irons as you recommend for the driver?

Can you do a session on advantages/disadvantages of the Geek Golf Titanium driver listed on your site? Other than being $300 less than a new Callaway driver, I’d love to know your insight.

It's a great head still after all these years. It's been hit over 225 mph btw. Biggest difference is that it's not adjustable, and it's just the head. You have to put a shaft on it.

Thanks for this video. Your videos are always interesting and informative. I am curious about the open stance for the short irons. Why does this work better than a square stance, that is, neither open nor closed? I am not happy with my short and medium iron (gap wedge to 7-iron) ball striking and perhaps this will help me. Thanks in advance.

We should account for the AoA which pushes the path to the right.

@@Inmotion70 Today I went to the range and opened up my stance for the shorter irons. It worked well. I am thinking I actually had my stance closed a bit, which was causing problems. The bottom line is that ball striking with the shorter irons is much better. Thanks.

Great video Steve, whats the impact of moving from a slightly closed position with driver to more open as the loft increases? Could that result in pulls to the left or else hitting accross ball and result in a fade/slice?

Thanks Steve. I’ve just watched the vid where you have the arm trailing the body to get get shaft lean with an Iron. If one is throwing from the top the body has to move quite quickly to stay ahead. I assume the body has to move even faster with a driver if it’s the same swing? I.e. does the body lead into impact with a driver?

if it is the same swing as iron, how come there is no divot with the driver before impact while hitting up on the ball in the forward position?
@LegendJeff
@LegendJeff 3 жыл бұрын
Because of tee height. If it was played off the deck it might need need a divot
@Golfzilla70
@Golfzilla70 3 жыл бұрын
@@LegendJeff i think that's a good point, but it seems like there's still just a little extra you have to do just to hit down on the ball to cause the divot on iron shots. For driver, it's like you have to visualize an imaginary "depth line" and actually take the clubhead below that imaginary surface (to take your imaginary divot). The rest of the clubs that's not necessary since the ground is there and you know where it actually is. Of course, that's just the way it seems to me. I think Steve is fantastic and one of the best (if not the best) teachers of the swing on youtube. Certainly this vid he's put out is going to make me try to keep my swings more fundamentally alike than i have in the past.

So other than the many differences you spend ten minutes explaining, there both the same. I don't think it would be terrible to admit that they're different.

You have some good content, but you dodged my question in a previous video so I am gone. Instead of clarifying a contradiction in what you say you do, and what actually happens, you gave some lamo answer. Leads me to conclude you are not the answer.
