This idiot won't get more than 10 yrs in prison according to articles. Courts give slap on wrist for DUI until someone is killed. My sister was killed 10 yrs ago by a drunk driver and it was the woman's 4th dui arrest. She was given 13 yrs in prison and only has to serve 80% of time. States need to get serious with penalties for dui because it always ends with an innocent person getting hurt or dying.

We tried. It was the prohibition era. Alcohol didn't go anywhere. We had family owned wineries in South Jersey that had to close. The Mafia bought one of them and kept on making booze, simply marketing it as cough medicine to get around the ban. The Mafia and smaller gangs had a field day. In rural areas, moonshiners went nuts. And all of that booze was stronger and made people drunk faster. Prohibition does not work. It pushes thriving industries underground. Human beings find ways to abuse all kinds of substances. We need to push for mental health care and parent education to reduce trauma and untreated mental health conditions that so often lead to substance abuse.

It really does not matter whether he was drunk or not. What he did was irresponsible reckless driving. He needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. As a cyclist I see this type of thing all over the united states and the world. More times than not the drivers are not even charged and things are blamed on the cyclists. Also wondering if these two men were wearing helmets. It could have made a difference.
