Here we have a Journey across the Tyne Valley From Tyne Yard (Just south of Newcastle) to Hexham in glorious sunshine. This video is a couple of years old but very nice just the same to enjoy after Yesterdays announcement of the country going into full lockdown again because of the covid-19 pandemic. Like all the older videos Sound recording was not permitted.
We head out of Tyne around the curve passing Low Fell and joing the Tyne valley route at Norwood Junction before passing on through Blaydon & Wylam to name but a couple of stations before carrying on to Hexham. There will be further parts to this coming up across to Carlisle.

I live on this route, frequently getting off the train at Prudhoe. Very good to have this view of the journey. Shows some of the beauty of the Tyne Valley. The railway I a wonderful feature of the valley.

I loved seeing this route again. I travelled along it years ago, so long ago that when I changed at Newcastle the train that I got on still had a smoking carriage!

I live just by the line at Dunston, so it was great to see it from the drivers cab! It's a lovely run in the sunshine! I remember as a kid coming back home from a day out in Carlisle and the train going back to Newcastle via Scotswood! Happy days!

I've always wondered what *precisely* the rail companies don't want us to hear of the conversations in the cab (either instructor giving tuition to trainee driver, or driver to signaller). Is it a blanket panic about GDPR, or would safety or security be compromised in some way - and if so, how? I'm intrigued. Likewise some companies seem to have a problem with the driver's controls and instruments being shown during journeys.

It was a Management instruction at the time by HR, who were worried about GDPR and the union in 2017. As an independent now we record sound, but do have to have a bit of licence with the editing as Drivers love to talk when other people are in the cab. :)

Good trip for a cold, rainy, uh, NOVEMBER!, morning. Happy November. I loved Hexham Station. Must have been a large junction at one time.
3 жыл бұрын
Hexham station itself was never a junction, the actual junction was about a mile west called Border Counties Junction where the Border Counties railway to Riccarton Junction on the Edinburgh - Carlisle line (Waverley Line) took off to the right across the River Tyne (the remains of the bridge can still be seen in the river). The Allendale Railway took off to the left. The trackbed of the Allendale line could still be seen until it was obliterated in the '70s by the construction of the A69 Hexham by-pass.

Why London locations (Willesden, Norwood Junction) in your video which is of Newcastle upon Tyne?
@RailMart
@RailMart 3 жыл бұрын
Norwood jn is the actual name of the junction and the reference to Willesden is in regard of where the Royal Mail service runs to from in London to Low Fell Royal Mail terminal that is on the left.

Farnley Scar tunnel, bypassed by a new cutting in the 1960s. Perhaps unwisely - about 10 seconds later you can see site of a major landslip on the south side of the cutting that a few years ago closed the line for many months.
