Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Brings back many memories. In 2014, while on a railway odyssey, rode from Newcastle to Carlisle on a Class 150 stopping service.

Don't think it would have been a class 150 as Newcastle and Carlisle men don't sign them I don't think, a class 156 perhaps?

You picked a good day for it, not easy in the North of England. I'm looking forward to your next offering.

What a beautiful, scenic line no doubt seen to it's best due to the weather conditions. I would imagine crossing with snow cover would be an experience to behold. I miss the first generation DMUs when forward viewing was available to anybody fleet enough to grab the front facing seats, cab blinds permitting of course. Such a pity so much of the Victorian station infrastructure has been swept away. What remains lends the line an historic atmosphere particularly the wonderful station footbridges. I do detest the minimalist bus shelter design approach found all over the network, even at stations with considerable passenger usage. Not only does it scream "We are doing the least we can to ensure your comfort!" but so often clashes with the ambiance and style of the remaining historic features. Whilst not familiar with the line I have crossed the trans-Pennine routes further south more times than I can remember. In comparison I was surprised by the relatively few viaducts on the route. Thanks for this pre-lockdown excursion, it has whetted my appetite to do it for real once the pandemic is over.

Yes with ref to first gen DMU's. Used to love as a kid getting on a Swindon class 120 or the likes and sitting behind the Driver!

Just to add, the Samson Pub ( no connection, but served good food before Covid hit everyone) is on the left at 6.55, the Roman Turret is on the left at 7.02, HW is visible on the right at 7.05.

A very interesting ride. The Alston Bay is on the left at Haltwhistle, not the right.

Glad that my geography isn't playing tricks on me and that someone didn't move Alston to be north of the Newcastle-Carlisle line while I wasn't looking :-)

Must mention the quick look we get of Hadrians Wall just after Gilsland, on the right. A rather splendid stretch of its remains just here, and a very nice little Roman fort near the Samson Pub.

Haltwhistle-The Alston Branch was on the LEFT behind the old signalbox, there were no bay platforms.

A great view of this very old route across The Pennines, and the only one not reliant on a long tunnel ( Huddersfield to Stalybridge, Sheffield to Derby etc etc). Could some more points of interest be added by editing, such as the highest point on the line, height above sea level, gradients, maximum line speeds and the name of some settlements that are seen along the route, the A 69 and other roads nearby?

Strange place to stop- on the middle track in the station. Leads me to believe you were going on through.

Surprised Gilsland Station didn't get a mention especially as there is a campaign to have it reopened. Other than that and no sound most enjoyable.

If you get a zero pound notice from PayPal, don’t panic. Laugh and tell yourself, “This guy doesn’t know what he’s doing!l that’s true. Should get a better notice shortly. I had a hard time writing the amount. Thanks for the videos.
