Hey Driver667 these are great vids for several reasons. 1 to understand the Victorian rail system; 2 to see what is broad gauge and what is standard gauge; 3 to try to follow the signalling system (not entirely easy) and 4 to understand junctions and routes through complex track layouts.

Really interesting to see the video of the railway from Southern Cross to Dandenong and the lovely weather! Thanks for Sharing! Will you be able again video from Dandenong to Pakenham, which has a brand new on-top railway bridge and when will be open? 😉👌🚂

Narre Warren is now above and Pakenham is still on the ground. The next video is with both still on the ground. I will video it again when they are both up in the air. Glad you enjoyed it 👍 😀

Lot of memories here,lived at Carnegie,1953,rode a horse once from Carnegie to Caulfield racecourse,my first and LAST time on a horse,caught the train from Murrumbeena,red rattlers,then Harris trains,all in the days before graffitti.The line may have been updated,but it sure is not as attractive as it once was.Still catch a ride down that way,from Ballarat to Nar Nar Goon occasionally.

the numbers that apear in bottom left ar of two different styles and meanings White square ones with black numbers distance from zero point at elizabeth street subway at flinders street for all lines east of there .. They yellow ones with pointed ends and black numbers are speed signs with the point indicating direction of curve used where spead is different ti line spead for that section of line
@driver667 Жыл бұрын
The yellow ones.. correct. The kilometres are measured from Southern Cross, not Flinders Street. The stanchions holding the overhead wires for the suburban trains are measured from Flinders Street. 👍😀

Why was there so much grass on the tracks early in the video?

Sometimes the grass just grows in an ideal spot for it. 👍😀

Everything wrong with Vline and rail travel in the first 10 minutes. A regional service not only starting at Southern Cross (fair enough) BUT stopping at Flinders St and Richmond AND Caulfield. It’s not a suburban service. That would not be done in Europe. You’d stop at maybe two stations and clear the city.
@emdB67 Жыл бұрын
Well, as they're often 'stuck' behind stopping suburban trains anyway, stopping at some of the busier points along the way seems okay. Especially when country passengers need to go to those locations. As I have on occasion. Going past and then having to get another stopping train back can be enough of a pain for some places that it might be better to drive. :)
@driver667 Жыл бұрын
As pointed out, we follow a suburban train so we might as well stop at those places. We do get people from those stations. If we didn't stop we would be just dribbling along a little slower still, following that suburban train 🤔👍😀
@xr6lad Жыл бұрын
@@driver667 sorry not an excuse. Don’t wish to argue with you as I love the videos but it’s systemic of the way the service is run and the view of a regional train. It isn’t to be ‘all things to all people’ and a pseudo suburban pick up service. And it again proves the inefficiency to the track layouts made worse by Skyrail. I mean I haven’t been to Oakleigh in years - when did they get rid of the 3rd line through. Another example of where on the old Warragul train you would over take trains ahead.
@xr6lad Жыл бұрын
@@emdB67 you are a regional service - not a suburban service and it’s obvious people in this country do not know the difference. You are not meant to be keeping everyone happy. Those that need intermediate stations get off at interchanges and swap trains. If I had to use that train for a daily commute I’d end up just driving in comfort door to door.
@emdB67 Жыл бұрын
@@xr6lad Yes, we know the difference. And if Skyrail had included one or two extra tracks, then we may well have had what you suggest. Regional trains running express from, say Pakenham into the city at around 100km/h. With those for intermediate stations transferring to Metro at either end.
@paulcoffey359 Жыл бұрын
Does the train need some special protection to enter Dandenong? Or do the police have the bogans under control these days?
