Track integrity for sure, but also helps keep your route knowledge current for sure for when you have to use the route. A shame the timing wasn't "just right" for a parallel run.

Is there like a set date and time (like a timetable) for these to run on the old geelong line during the closure of the line beyond geelong? Since I might go record these on the old line this week when they do their track tests on the line. Not alot of trains use the line from Werribee - Manor except for sometimes a grain train or the Qube Ultima.

@@MarkoCR221L yes, I believe they run each week day. 4am out of Little River, Werribee about 4.15am quickly in and back out. The time may vary depending upon the train getting out of Wyndham Vale yard earlier or on time. 👍😀

Just wondering. Do you have any kind of testing equipment onboard to check the tracks integrity? Or maybe it's done the more Aussie way of "Well the train stayed on the track, so the line must be okay." (Possibly with a "Strewth" or two added for colour)

@@martythemartian99 🤣🤣 No. This train runs whilst the freight is not running during the Waurn Ponds upgrade. It makes sure the rust doesn't build up on the tracks so the track circuiting still works as it should. 👍😀

Typically there are electric currents that run through the tracks to operate the signals, so if there is a broken rail the signal will go to stop and the train can be authorised to travel at low speed to the next signal. There are also regular inspections to find any still developing defects.

Also, I forgot about the ultrasound vehicle that scans the rails to find any hairline cracks or similar.

I notice that in both the last Video and this one, you are running Wrong Road. Is this part of the testing you needed to do, or just used as a matter of convenience?
