But many people are also getting slugged with incorrect tickets. People have gotten a ticket even when the bus driver gestured at them to go past the bus. They’ve also gotten tickets when the buses are at their depots and obviously there are no children at the bus depot. I can see why they have these cameras on the buses but they need to issue tickets CORRECTLY. Because they are clearly about slamming people with fines starting at $250 to raise revenue!! That is a HUGE amount of money for most people including me!! I don’t make a six figure salary. I’m an Amazon driver so I’m very prone to getting tickets. Thankfully I haven’t gotten one yet for anything but when you’re a delivery driver you’re much more likely to get tickets than other people.

Er, yeah, I'm trained as a driver since 1986, to always stop for a school bus that has the paddle out or is extending it, lights flashing, whatever, and wait till the boarding or activity is over, and the bus goes, or whatever. I would never pass such a bus if the paddle is out, or lights flashing, whatever. I've never gotten a ticket for such a situation, ever. I do run into situations all day long on LI though, where a school bus (mini or full size) is parked on a shoulder, or on a break, or whatever, in all kinds of situations, parking lots, but if they're not on active duty, or just sitting there, it's one thing. I'll see them stop quickly at my local Dunkins, sometimes even run in (and parked illegally, in some cases, by the way!) to get food and stuff, and then re-board the bus, usually just staff, not kids. But they sometimes do this illegally since the street right in front of the Dunkins is no parking or standing!! LOL They're supposed to bring the bus into the lot, if possible. So, sometimes the bus drivers bend the law a bit, as well. Also, I have buses that stop all morning about 3x right in front of my house for the local kids, I've seen cases wherein the bus stops to drop kids off in p.m., and, the parents are out to lunch...the driver beeps like 8 x and finally later the parents come out to collect their kids. So, you cannot assume even if the paddle is not out and flashing, or flashing for a long time, that the kids have unboarded or boarded the bus yet. If i was backing out of my driveway, I would have to just watch and wait till all is clear, because I'm A. not gonna break the law and B. for total safety concerns. Some people are just plain stupid and selfish.

NYC yellow bus drivers use that stop sign to drop off fellow co workers at the corner, 0 kids. Also they leave the stop sign 🛑 activated while talking to kids parents, long after the kid is already sitting down.

Yea, I was ticketed even though I did not pass the school bus when the stop arm was out. I was found guilty. Im not paying it.

Recently, a U-tube video showed one School Bus stop, between Smithtown & Commack, NY, created 2,700 violations in one year, or $1,000,000. in revenue! Why, because it was on a major, four lane road, where the speed limit is 50 mph! Asking drivers, some 75 feet away (across 4 lanes) to 'slam on' their brakes, is the same as having children get off of a bus, in the middle of a major highway! The local speed limits & width of the road, must be taken into consideration!

That's not always the case. I got a ticket for a school bus that was stopped on the curb of the northbound lanes, and I'm over four lanes, past the divider, on the other side, no where CLOSE to the bus, it wasn't even visible. Ridiculous. If I were to stop in the green light, I would've been rear-ended.

@@117JasR that’s a fairly unique situation and should be able to fight it. Most examples aren’t the case.

It is the same at a RR crossing. You are supposed to stop when the lights start flashing and remain stopped until AFTER the lights are off. I have had many horn honks but just ignore them!

The law says when the red lights are flashing YOU HAVE TO STOP... PERIOD. The stop sign paddle is just a reminder... That law has been in place since long before I was born. Learn the traffic laws... (oh and I grew up in NY.. this guy just failed his drivers test.. the existance of kids is NOT relevant)

Oh, come on down to Maspeth and/or Middle Village. The bus comes to a stop with the sign and red flashing lights, picks up a few kids, and sometimes for a good solid minute or two it's yap-yap-yap with the mothers catching up on this or that. _"Oh, what's the big deal?"_ Really? Time it out. Sit quietly with nothing else to do, and time out even only 1min, see how you'd like to be parked behind a bus while they catch up on the latest gossip. Not to defend their actions, but it makes it almost understandable why someone would rather beat the bus vs getting stuck behind.

Which some ppl know knew bus drivers as to ppl who are in busses use to get the bus but then it is something else to the ones that are in busses as I use to walk but know that I drive it is way better different some weird ppl that drive busses as some ppl weird out here 😮.
