This is exactly the video I was looking for. We’ve just come down to the Baja in our Unimog & hope to pick up our Starlink in La Paz this weekend. This will be our first job - converting to 12volt. Thanks so much guys & hope we bump into you in the coming weeks 👍

The 12V to 48V up converter you are using is known to cause signal degradation in Starlink. If you experience outages and/or poor internet speeds, that's the first place to look. If not then you're lucky and it's all good.

Can you use the starlink app with a third party router ?
@drivetheglobe

Yes. You can still use the app

If I already have the SL Ethernet 'dongle' for my home router can't I just plug into that 12vdc router you have and a 12 to 48vdc converter and use my existing POE injector? Seems more plug and play or ___? That router you have was my missing link for my mobile rig it seems. Seems to me SpaceX is missing a fairly large sales opportunity here. Thanks for the video guys.

They are missing an opportunity. Guessing a 12volt set up will come eventually. The key is making sure the 48 volts goes to the dish and not the router.

The 12v cig plug doesn’t get too hot? Everything that I’ve read says using a 12v cig lighter is a bad idea.

It does not. But it also was custom wired and I used a larger gauge wire than standard issue on stock specs.

I’m confused about the Raj45 wiring. Is it the one you show on the diagram in the video? Thanks

Yes. But it is proprietary to Starlink.
@ck9581
@ck9581 9 ай бұрын
I have been a telecommunications tech for over 20 years and No it is not proprietary it’s is a industry standard covered under ANSI/TIA-568B the other is ANSI/TIA-568A some countries use A like Australia and Canada for example much of America uses B except in many military and government installations where the specification is for A, if you terminate a cat5e cable A on one end and B on the other end you have a cross over cable which where needed and very common years ago for connecting switch’s and hubs and routers to each other these days cross overs are pretty much not needed or used anymore other than in a few specific cases as modern networking equipment is now MDX/MDI in other words the devices talk to each other and adjust their pin outs automatically so it was also totally a pointless waste of time cutting one end off the patch lead and re-terminating it, as for the power usage transmitters use more power than receivers.

It's simpler than that. Buy a small 12 volt inverter, plug in Starlink, and done.
@drivetheglobe
@drivetheglobe 10 ай бұрын
The issue is that you still have a 25% loss in the inversion process so this using valuable power reserve

Great ordered everything as in your list for my boat in Mexico but the Fuse Block from Amazon does not have a negative bus bar as the one in your video, going to send back the one I received and get one with a negative bus bar, will simplify things in my installation.

I got a bit confused when you were covering the fuse towards the end of the video. what fuse did you end up going with? my current battery system has a 12v dc output with up to 10 amps. (ecoflow river max) but i plan on a much larger one for my final power build.
@drivetheglobe
