Also they changed the way the crown of command works, the change also makes the game faster.

Are you talking about not being able to PVP at the Crown and some other spaces in the Inner Region?
@Kornstalx6 ай бұрын
@@DriveThruReview No he means it's completely different. In 4th Edition (base, non-expansion rules) there is no dragon or epic fight at the Crown. You simply "use" the CoC every turn by rolling a d6 and trying to kill the other players on the board. Just because someone beats you there by a few turns doesn't mean you're out of the game if you can endure (or heal through) the potential damage they will cause globally. It's true PvP as the only way you can win is to literally kill every other player, either by using the CoC each turn, or killing them once they arrive at the Crown with you. This version of the game is radically different in that regard.

Oh gotcha. Was confused there for a second. I did mention that, but had to re-watch. I guess I didn't mention that as a change. (I'm also realizing now I forgot to mention that you get a Fate token when you lose a combat.. which I also believe is new). I'll pin this post just in case for folks :)

The old System was flawed. It was possible to get into a loop. Most of the changes are well known houserules.

This game is wild and random, but to me its biggest strongpoint is that you can take anyone, explain nothing and just roll the die and explain as you go. It was perfekt (4th edition) to introduce my 6 year old daughter to board game. She loved it and was jumping up and down after winning, screaming with joy begging to play again. I can also lure in my wife Who hates complex rules. Just roll the die and draw a card or roll again and see what happens. Also takes 0 brain or attention so Great for having a drink and chill while playing. With some twists, like toad, to induce some fun situation. I still prefer like Runebound over this but oh man does this game have a special place in my heart, loved it as a kid (2nd edition) and love how my daughter gets the same joy some 30 years later.

I have never played. But I’m quite interested. To read all the comments with the memories from previous editions is encouraging (the 80s!! That’s 40 years ago!). Thinking about getting this for our family. Many thanks for the great overview. Lovely done! 👍

Relic did have power cards, which let the players set a die to the power card value; it was a great element of limited determinism that I'm glad to see carry forward into Talisman in a different form. The different colored Relic decks could still hose you with high level encounters or different skill tests than your main stat, you were just more likely to find Strength enemies in the Red deck, etc. All of these games are fun when some cards stay out on the board, gives the session character :)

The complete new design is imho awesome.

The color decks in Relic were about what stat you were most likely to test there, not the difficulty, which I loved. I also really liked having the card you could play instead of a die roll. That was a really nice option without letting them just pick a space.

Also I forgot to say, thanks for the video! I wouldn't have known about the new edition and changes without it.

I just want to ask everyone - aren't str/craft cones supposed to count only gained points? I mean since starting points can not be lowered there is no point to use cones which are limited?

I really want this. I honestly hate dipping into savings but im afraid theyll sell out and i wont be able to afford the scalpers later. Ugh!!! I suppose that could be paranoid but 4e went nuts in price USED during pandemic..... I have never had my own and have relied on playing other people's since the first one. I like this one can be faster and easier. Or go old rules for the drawn out long game

I haven't played this game in ages. I still have an old, old version.... mine is the 2nd edition from 1985. Yeah, we used to like this one, as it was sort of as "D&D" as you could get in a board game at the time. Dungeon! was the other one we dug. I always liked this one, but the endgame always felt like it dragged on too long. Regardless, it was a pretty novel and revolutionary one for its time, especially... and I definitely would play it again, but it isn't going to be a first choice considering the options I now have.
@savaspourouti1736 ай бұрын
Also, not sure if you mentioned this bit (forgive me if I missed) but obvious to see from review, the adventure cards. Spells etc are all bigger v previous editions. Will take up more space on the board not sure how that will impact, better to read and see though with my poor eyesight

so just because I'm curious-is 4rth/r4rth edition stuff usable in this edition?

Not “physically” but no reason you can’t use some of the new rules at all
@stuffnstuff97214 ай бұрын
can you use the previous expansions with this edition?

Maybe some of them? I don't think many though. Maybe if you sleeve the cards it will be fine. There will be more expansions targeted for this new edition over time.

The cones to track stats seem sloppy to me. Relic used spin dials and I feel that’s a vastly superior way to manage the player board.

For sure. I think it's a cost-saving measure though.
