Chatting with Abbie afterwards, the tyres didn't end up being that bad, apparently on par with the Yokahamas on the 1.6! So all Yuki really needed was a slight suspension tweak and caramel digestives to take the 1.8. What a car.

Keep this gem! I'd love to see what some lightweight wheels and decent tires would do, even cooler if you change to a lightweight battery and bucket seats, see how light you can go!
@nunyabusiness896
@nunyabusiness896 Жыл бұрын
The batteries in these are already tiny and it would start to get hard to fit in the car if the seats were any different. Larger, stickier tires would make a huge difference, though, and no need for overrated "lightweight" wheels, any steelie would work, just put wider tires of a grippier compound. With the right tires, it would probably drop 5 seconds off of a course like this.
@MsArchitectschannel
@MsArchitectschannel Жыл бұрын
@@nunyabusiness896 Steelies are 100% not worth it on a car like this. alloys are SO cheap nowadays you may aswell spend the extra £300 to get alloys, steelies would set you back like 30Kg of unsprung weight which is huge for a 700kg car! superlight alloys aren't worth it though, just get some chepo ones from somewhere reputable!
@nunyabusiness896

@GoldenCroc

@@MsArchitectschannelSteelies are often lighter than alloys, and thats not a joke. Especially the cheapo alloys ones are often quite a bit heavier than steelies actually, so beware if its weight you are looking to cut, it might just be a step backwards when put on a scale! The alloys generally significantly lighter than steelies/cheapo alloys are specialised performance ones, but they tend to be expensive. Certainly not 300 quid for a set of new ones. I guess some second hand ones that are a bit beat up and have done some races maybe could be found for 300. As, as I said above, steelies arent really heavier than normal alloys, even with "race" forged alloys or magnesium, you wont save 30kg on rims for this kind of car. Any rims you can fit are just too small to be very heavy, its borderline if the original rims even are 30kg in weight in total to begin with, of course making it impossible to save 30kg. You have to get larger, heavier dimensions like 18s, 19s at the very least (more likely 20s or above if originals are ok-ish) to be able to save 30kg in all. Cheers mate.

Give Yuki a boost controller, a new blow-off valve (almost anything is better than the stock BOV), some chassis stiffening, sticky tires, and maybe bigger injectors and a turbo timer. Also, you may not getting the full benefit of the catback exhaust; I'm not sure for the Cappuccino, but the AZ-1 stock downpipe (similar engine) is very restrictive. If that's the case for the Cappuccino, it would be exacerbated with additional boost., so have a look and swap it or bore it out You should be able to hit get past your 100hp target without modifying the engine internals. If you want to go all-out, there are options for oversized pistons, reinforced gaskets, new hoses, etc.

That 1.6 is NOT stock or new OEM performance. It's sitting much lower than stock, is behaving much better than stock on the corners, and the headlight intake opening (not stock) makes me suspect the intake tract has also been modified.

I'm not convinced that 1.6 is standard LOL. Pretty sure the exhaust is aftermarket (I suspect MX5 Parts or Cobalt) and it looked too flat through the corners to be on stock suspension. It also has a headlight vent, which is another nod to suggest it's not standard ;). Edit: Also, look at the ride height on the 1.6 compared to the 1.8. I know Mike said towards the end the suspension was new and suggested it was OE but I'm not so sure....LOL Awesome video, though.

"not uprated suspension"? Its viseably inches lower and miles stiffer than stock. Its also got an obvious cold air intake and exhaust the owner "forgot to mention" and no doubt its going to be mapped/chipped to suit. I don't see a problem with that but tell it like it is. It would be interesting to see what that Cap could do with real rubber on it. Maybe cleaning the rust off the brakes aswell if you can find the time?
@TomMattin

This goes to show if anything, how important it is to replace suspension on older cars even if they’re not ‘broken’ or leaking. AND how you don’t necessarily need to uprate it; just keep it new and fresh

As for the tires on Cappucino: Dębica is Polish, quite respected manufacturer, subsidiary of Goodyear. I'm... noooot sure if these ones are of type for circuit racing :) Dębica Passio are marketed as economical tires, rather for daily driving.

So much you can have fun with the Cappuccino! A really small shot of Nitrous Oxide? a "larger" battery (check weight distribution, and put it where it's more favorable) and electric (yep a one that actually can compress the air) "turbo". Or/and get really really creative and make a custom 4 wheel drive Cappuccino (and get great tires)... And make it a one of... Or just smash a bike engine in with a "smallish" turbo and make it crazy? so many things... Maybe do a ("West Cluxuruous

Worth noting that the earlier 1.6 MX5 is 115bhp. I wonder if the later 90bhp 1.6 can be upped to the earlier 115bhp.
@MrManBuzz
@MrManBuzz Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. If you swap the early 1.6 cams into the later 1.6 you can get roughly the same power. I can't remember if the later 1.6 had the lower compression pistons that were in the automatic cars as well, but either way, swapping in the earlier cams make a noticeable difference.
