Looks like a nice job, Roger! Thank you for yet another interesting video. How are the levels set? We use rotary lasers, also for slopes, together with steel tubes and a plank, to get flat surfaces. This looks like it is made freehand with a steel tube, which obviously can be done if you have experience. But I imagine that you still need some fixed points for heights? We use rock dust to fill in the gaps and I think it is better the larger grains that can get down between the blocks to lock them in place. It is often difficult to get dried rock dust so you can also rinse it down carefully with a water hose after spreading it with a broom. In regards to getting straight lines, different slopes on a paved surface makes the distances differ and you will end up with a curved lines/joints. Be careful to compact the laid blocks, since they might move both sideways and down if there are not fixed edges. The blocks usually even out after time if they differ slightly due to grains of rock under them. You can use polyuretan stone glue in between blocks in sensitive positions where you might expect movement.

I don't think I saw a slot/channel drain going in at the front door threshold. I may be wrong though. I would always use some form of drainage at level thresholds to protect from the wind driving water under the door. Cracking job!

Slot drains are a good idea but in this case there are two steps up to a shelterd porch. They didn't have any problems with the old step so it unlikely to suddenly start happening. Would the slot drain stop it? I am not sure

Hose and broom in sand and cement at 3:1 works heaps better than the sand products and no weeds. This is how we do it in Australia 🇦🇺 nice work.

Geo textile is not a weed barrier it is a separation membrane to prevent the sub base from sinking into the sub grade so increasing stability. Weeds come from the top, not underneath. No normal weed, bar knotweed or the like can penetrate a proper base. I am surprised at the lack of water suppression in the saw. I’m surprised - Roger is generally so knowledgeable.

one thing you want to check with your water company is that they're not charging you for surface water if it's not going in the drain, generally they do charge for this you have to make it apparent to them you do not have any surface water going into your drains.

A lot of pattern imprinted concrete fades. It can be good if it is done well but you will never patch it if you have to take a section up for any reason.

Hi Chris You really need to get rid of the vegetable top but it is hard to give a figure on this kind of thing. I would say the best thing is to dig a bit of earth away and smack the ground. I use a short plank of wood and a club hammer to see what kind of give there is. If you hardly make a dent then that is probably good enough. If you are worried then you need to roll the type 1 in with a vibrating roller rather than using the Whacker plate which is not that good and consolidating ground.

The geotextile is for stability, it keeps the whole driveway together like a carpet would your toy blocks (the whole installation becomes one piece). The geotextile fabric is much stronger than your weed protection.

Spot on Gregory "O'Dochartaigh" Rodger should have taken a trip over to Donegal and looked at the "Mica" in "Concrete Blocks" and the Devastating Disaster on houses they have caused. Did read an American has offered to build logcabin homes or similar on some land the chapel had offered for free while their "mica" houses are repaired the logcabins would then become holiday homes after words think this was in Carndonagh. I do know a young lady who helps write for one of the Mica Groups Community. = "O'Dochartaigh" 'Who so ever asks me of my birth - I will tell them I am born of Irish Princes who ruled in Donegal a thousand years ago"

Roger pigment is added to the concrete mixture based on a percentage of the weight of cement used . 10 percent being the maximum amount of pigment recommend. how does limiting the pigmented concrete to the first 4 to 10 millimeters of the brick enhance the colour of the concrete .

I am not a chemist but when you look at their product after 15 years in service it is difficult to tell it apart from a block that has come straight out of the factory. It is colour rich whereas, as you know, many drives are bleached out after 3 or 4 years.

@@SkillBuilder same goes for these type of paving products from other company’s that I’ve seen. they rarely degrade colour wise and that’s with bricks that have been manufactured the whole thickness of the brick using pigmented concrete or the first 5 to 10 millimeters of the brick only. The first time I saw paving brick manufactured with only the top 5 to 10 millimeter of the brick being pigmented concrete ,the guy that showed them to me was worried about using them because the weren’t colored the whole way through and I said you’ll have no trouble with them you wouldn’t wear through the top 10 millimeters of a hydraulically pressed and vibrated brick in a million years . It was obvious to me that they were made like that to save money on the amount of pigment the manufacturer had to purchase and rightly so no point putting expensive pigment in the part of a brick that’s never seen .

My impression of your knowledgable and informative videos is that you want to create content that engages the viewer to the point where they like and subscribe to your channel. Rather than going to other channels, risking you not achieving KZbin minimum engagement parameters and so the viewing impression is lost and you don't make anything from your hard work. Perhaps you should carry out some customer feedback, rather than suggesting people look at subscriptions, as there are multiple other successful channels that release similar content that are successful and not trying to milk every video. @@OttersPocket1 I understand your sentimements but if you spent a few weeks working with us I think you would see the world differently. We don't control the advertising, we put the videos out and Google does the rest. The reason that we get more ads than some other channels is simply because advertisers want to go on our channel. We are not in the position of being able to turn them away. Despite doing this for more than ten years we still don't know what videos work and why. We have spent weeks filming some videos and travelled hundreds of miles and stayed in hotels only to find the video has made £40.00 in ad revenue. That has nothing to do with the frequency of the ads because people have not even clicked on it. Our rate of channel growth and subscribers is relatively high but there is always a churn of viewers. I don't watch many of the channels I used to watch a few years ago and we understand that we complete for your attention.
