This made me miss my first car. My father bought me a 1990 White SHO (First Gen) for my first car for my high School Graduation back in 1995. I was a little upset because I wanted a Mustang GT Convertible. But was happy enough my old man bought me anything after the way I behaved in school leading up to that moment. After a few nights of sneaking out and driving my SHO I was the chick who had the "sleeper"! The car was amazing for back then! And it came stock with a JBL stereo that actually sounded pretty good. And I had Black interior and a Sun roof! Mine was a manual also. And I burned the clutch up in the first couple months of owning it. I had thought it was my fault and so did my father. So he made me sit in July heat for two days and replace the clutch with him. Which meant dropping the front end completely just to get the Bell housing out. And while inspecting we had noticed (once again) that Ford used like a Topaz or Escort GT clutch. And it made no sense! (I said "again" because my father had a 1989 Silvery-Gold SHO and it's clutch died along with a series of other engine issues) So we put some sort of performance clutch in it and it was just fine after that. I also had an Escort EXP with the HO/Escort GT engine in it and it was manual too. It was a 1988 EXP. Which people thought was some eurostang. Basically I had to try and put my head up and say "It's an Escort,...GT"! Anyway, there were some fun cars to come from Ford at around this time period. And the SHO really is a classic that mainly car enthusiast remember.
@RoxanneBarbelo7 жыл бұрын
If you ever get the opportunity, do a video on the Escort EXP or Escort GT. They were fun cars and felt like they were indestructible! I used to buy Escort EXP and GT's from the late 80's at auctions and modify them as a prank against my nerdy friends who were Honda owners and liked to raced. There is nothing like getting beat by a $300-500 car! Anyway, the reason I even mention the Escort was because of the long history they have in Ford. And they are a classic! In fact the Franklin Farms, Herndon VA Starbucks has some young lady who works there that has a Excellent condition 1987 Escort LX! Happy Thanksgiving and Thank you for making such fun videos!

He agreed and told me to drive it like i stold it or it would feel like any other manual Trans taurus. I was suprised it was quick although i knew the car had mass. his was the 3.2 manual. he though it was a 3.0 and didnt know that the trans depended on what engine was stuffed into it at the factory . my driving impressions were veried stuff clutch big cafm.excelleration was strong and smooth but if it were me i would buy a Dohc v624 valve contour i owned a sport and that was fun but not fast really. now i gave a Gti Mk7.dont get me wring the S.H.O kicks ass amd takes names but compared to today's cars it's average in performance but is miles behind in other as. Look at a picture of the intake manifold. Each cylinder is fed with a long intake runner, and a short one. Above 3950rpm, two electronically controlled vacuum actuators would open a "secondary" set of valves in the intake plenums allowing air to get into the cylinders through the short runners. Long runners for better low rpm torque, short runners for better high rpm breathing. Some duratec motors had a similar system, but the buterfly valves were located right near the intake ports of the cylinders, and were opened with a electronically controlled cable.
@Patrick94GSR7 жыл бұрын
yep, my 1994 Integra GSR intake manifold is the same way - dual runner manifold with butterfly valves that open that short runners above ~5700 RPM.

i Find it incredibly bizarre that the manual is considered less common in these. When i was a kid that is THE reason i knew this car existed. I knew a family who had two of them simultaneously, one auto, one manual. Then years later i worked with a guy who had a 5MT blue 1994 as his daily until it rotted out. maybe the sales numbers would say otherwise but i always thought these cars were much more common in manual. Also the 89 and 90 SHO is a very different looking car. Similar to the early DSM this car has a minor refresh after the first couple model years. I thought for sure the earlier ones were ONLY manual. Also the Yamaha engine has a neat little history you may not be aware of. It was originally developed to power a MR sports car to compete with the Fiero. When that project was scrapped Ford needed a car to put these already paid for engines into. SHO was born. I have fact checked nothing, this is how I remember it to be. I could be very wrong.

Had two '91 Super High Output manual shift Taurus'. Yamaha V-6 'sidewinder.' Nice cars, 4 wheel discs which was Fords answer to BMW hi-po 4 doors. Fun ride. Only problem is no one in AZ owned one cuz when it's over 115-120 degrees, the TFI (thick film insulation) distributor electronics take a dump and you're stranded on I-40. Waiting for a "trucker" to kidnap you and your family. Not good in that respect. Watching you guys go through the gears while stopped is comical. Secondaries generally refers to the other 2 venturis on a 4bbl. carb.
@OnTheRocks717 жыл бұрын
I remember when mine would get heat soaked, it didn't like restarting. I think it was due to the DIS module on the intake. Lots of weird ignition problems with these cars.
