Hello from Mercer County! Love the Dozer in the woods. For 4 years after I retired from the Marine Corps I was a Wildland Firefighter in Fl. We primarily use dozers for wild fires in FL. I operated a John Deere 650J with a V plow on the front and a fire plow on the back, then a JD 650H with a straight blade up front and fire plow. have also operated JD 650K, and a few 550G foot steer's. And a JD 850K. All with the Forestry Cage packages and 65K winch's on the back. The most fun of all was the OLD JD D6D.... These all had Low Ground Pressure Tracks specifically for getting thru FL swamps. You would be surprised how many swamp fires there are during thunderstorms. Everything burns in FL. Great video!

You will definitely reap the energy savings rewards as a result of the styrofoam concrete form system. While a serving in the US Air Force I helped design and build an entire recreation center on an Indian reservation in Carson City, Nevada using this system. Incredible strength and resilience.

The lite form system was really popular here in Iowa 20 years ago. Seems like an efficient way to build. Both labor and energy savings. I haven't seen many basements poured that way for quite a while.

You should build a Corduroy Road, You've got the timber. In WWII Alaska was connected to the lower 48 by Army Engineers building the Canoil Project....remembered by most today as the ALCAN Hwy. They built it in weeks, massive undertaking. Fifty years ago it was still a dirt road the first of many times I've driven her.

Your worries about the Cat getting stuck, reminded me of some of the stories of the Alaska Hwy, they would have trucks ,dozers and other equipment sink in the swamps, it was easer to get a new dozer than pull outh the sunk one.

Bob I can’t tell you enough good things about buying the D8. This dozer should last many generations of Browns! I’m using a D8 (cable) that my father, grandfather, great uncles and uncles used. As long as you take care of a CAT dozer it will outlast the owner!

If you plan on drywall in the basement soon. After the floor is poured before the main floor is decked have the drywall lowered in the basement preferably 16 foot sheets. Otherwise most stairwells only fit 8 footers twice the work to finish the drywall

The last building we built where I worked, was a steel frame building that we had built on an 18 inch high concrete wall. It's called a rat wall because it prevents critters from getting in under the steel but it also keeps the steel off the ground and the floor inside the building. The bottom 4 inches of the steel seems to rust away if it's on the ground.

That D8 is about as close to an irresistible force as you’re likely to encounter in your lifetime. Bet Bob is wishing he’d held out for a D9, and let him call it whatever he wants. Who, in their right mind, is going to argue with the man running the dozer? He’s obviously in his element. Day is gonna come when you tell the grandkids how Great-grandpa Bob ripped out the line of stumps and trees that used to be right over there with ol’ Daisy Mae.

The dozier footage was great. Nice to see the work on your house and shop. Good video. Looking forward to more D8 footage. I am Illinois and Iowa. Went to College in Moscow Idaho. I stayed and worked the summer of 1973 in Boise. That next fall I could buy a resident hunting license for Elk. I bought a used Remington ADL chambered in 7mm Rem. magnum. I went hunting with two men (brothers) from our church and two class mates. I think the season was in November. One weekend there was a guy cutting trees for firewood. The two brothers were carpenters heard the guy trying to cut trees and remarked he didn't know what he was doing. Later when we all came back to the truck the guy cutting trees came up to us and said the wind blew a tree he was cutting onto his truck. There was no wind. We all went over to see. About a 40 foot pine was laying across the hood of his F-150. The tree hit mid center of the hood and crushed it and the front wheels were all the way up into the fender wells. He said a family member was meeting him soon and didn't need any help.

@@BriansFarmingVideos It has been mentioned that you are going for propane heating but have a ground source heat pump been considered? I do not know if all functionality is available in one system but heating, cooling and hot water with only equipment in the basement seems interesting. Underfloor heating, own equipment to trench the needed ground source pipe, potential for some solar on the roof all increases feasibility. And no need for a propane tank and flue handling.

That 8n must be a couple years right before the R model reason I’m saying that the cab has a little more in it and nicer cab than the 8n and 10n I use to run when I started stripping coal almost 20 years ago back then they were kinda new dozer’s I still don’t think there old I think 2010 stuff is new and it already 13 years old dang I just realized I’m turning into my parents I’m getting old o well but the older 8 like that are good dozer’s that one should have a 3406 engine you can get parts for them good still yet and the final drive and trans and tourqe cat didn’t change a hole lot on the hard parts on them for years they did put a lot of sensors on them put a lot of the other parts on the inside so a lot of other stuff from other ones will interchange on the engine except the electrical stuff will inter change with road trucks
Was the Fendt Ideal big a mistake? Should we get something else
