Here is some feedback. You may want to get a CNC plasma or waterjet cutter for flat shapes like those 7:05. They are faster and cheaper to operate. Plasma cutters can have problems cutting Aluminium so do some research or go with waterjet. 10:45 You are mounting the cylinder facing toward the driver. The preferred way would be away so it doesn't take away floor space. You could have done it by opening a hole on the floor and then incasing it with sheet metal.

27:40 - some of you might not know this, but you could always change gears with a Mercedes manual while using cruise control (at least on W203 and W204). They never coded in the clutch limit switch to cancel cruise. Oddly enough, you can do it on F80 M3/M4 as well.

A handy machinist tip: Make the insert half a mm too big and put it in the freezer. Then heat the two drive shaft halves and you can slide it all on and the metal will bond and it will form a structural part of the drive shaft and the weld is almost superfluous. There is no way the drive shaft is coming apart at the weld.

As someone who might be interested in doing this swap, I would personally need to see a little more elegant interior integration in order to pull the trigger on it. Hoping that the info people added here in the comments could possibly be used to integrate factory Benz pedals in the future. My 722.6 is starting to fail on me, slipping in second gear in particular, and I am considering my options for repair/replacement. The high cost of rebuilding a 722.6 is a bit mind blowing. One thing that I personally always thought would be a perfect fit with the E55 would be to swap a ZF 8HP90 into it. It would avoid the issues with pedal integration, etc, and offer an effective modernization of the transmission. From what I can see, you would need to make an adapter plate, adapt the drive shaft, change the gear shift lever to one that works with the ZF (it's electronically controlled rather than a lever) and a transmission controller. Probably some other coding that would need to be done as well to fully integrate it with the car. Sure, a manual would be more fun, but I personally have an issue with my left foot from a motorcycle accident that makes it painful to drive a manual car with a stiff clutch, and it seems likely nearly any clutch option that can handle the power involved would be a bit stiff. That bottom hinged pedal would also be a problem for me. The ZF seems like the next best thing. Anyone who has driven a car with one knows they are nearly indistinguishable from a DSG or similar.

I paid $2,700 for rebuild transmission on my 04 e55
@alanfish33173 жыл бұрын
@@thelongranger55 Yeah, I have been quoted 3000 Euro for that here in Germany. considering I can buy a rebuild kit that includes all of the parts they are going to replace for under $200, they are basically charging 28 or so hours labor to do the job if you figure around 100 Euro per hour labor fees which is about average here. I highly doubt it would take a pro 28 hours to do this job. 8-10 sounds about right.
@thelongranger553 жыл бұрын
@@alanfish3317 you realize it’s not all profit ? They have to buy the parts , the new transmission it’s self , the trans mount , the new oil and filters & they even replaced my rear main seal for free , that rear main seal job alone is a big job and your lucky if you can find an honest guy to tell you it’s bad when he’s in there , most will put it back with old rear main seal that still leaks oil so you can come back to them for that job independently so they make more cash 💰 , for my w211 e55 that’s a really good price for a new transmission
@alanfish33173 жыл бұрын
@@thelongranger55 Yes, obviously it's not all profit. But that quote is for rebuilding my existing transmission, not providing a new one. The parts involved might total around $300-400 tops, including a rear main seal which I would insist they replaced as mine has a slight leak and it's a 5 minute job with the transmission removed. The rest is purely labor charges. For reference, 3,000 Euro is over $3600 at the moment. so they are charging over $3000 for the labor alone. They are basically quoting it as roughly a 30 hour job, when I know it should take a pro more like 8 to actually complete.

Well done team! While I do appreciate the sexy clutch pedal, personally I'd rather stick with a Mercedes clutch and brake pedals to (1) keep the installation looking factory (2) avoid cutting the carpet and (3) reduce the cost of the project.
