Hello! I’m planning on driving my own car from us to Costa Rica very soon. Just wanted to know what I might need like passport, car registration, title, car insurance, etc. I’ve never done this before so I’m a bit nervous. How much $ did all the tolls and borders plus paper work cost you? I’m going alone and hoping I will not have any extreme difficulties, but of course traveling that’s how it will always be lol!

Long time follower here can’t believe it’s almost gunna be a year of travel that’s awesome! I had a question, out of all the countries you’ve travelled through which one has been the overall cheapest?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal 5 жыл бұрын
Mexico was the cheapest. It is big though, so you could easily sink any money you were saving on food and lodging into the gas tank if you travel fast. Thanks for watching.

Wow ! Border crossings are such a pain and sound like a crash course in inefficiency. With all those idling trucks it must be costly to do international trade. Did you have to go through the same process on your return or did you ship your truck by sea? Thanks for the ride
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal 5 жыл бұрын
"A crash course in inefficiency" exactly! haha We drove back north to the USA and had to go back through many of the borders, but we chose not to return to Belize or El Salvador on our way north. Partially because we didn't want to do the extra borders and partially because they are both small countries and felt that we got to see a decent amount of each of them on our previous visits.

I know the tourist visa is 90 days... do vehicles have a time limit as well?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Жыл бұрын
yes. The vehicle is brought into each country on a temporary import permit(TIP). It is generally setup so that the TIP is given for the same amount of time as the tourist visa, but there may be different rules for reentry and there are some inconsistencies with the C4 countries.

Everyone seems to have a different experience at every border. For us, the Nicaragua to Costa Rica crossing took around 2.5 hours. We got checked out of Nicaragua quick and easy. We got our costa visas easy too, but then it took over an hour to get the Costa TIP

What are they doing to inspect your vehicle? Is there an xray machine anywhere on Pan Am Hghway? Noone ever goes into what these inspections involve? Are you allowed to travel with food?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal 4 жыл бұрын
No X-ray machines. They just look inside the vehicle. Generally they don't even open any boxes or really touch anything, but they are allowed to completely unpack your rig and look as much as they want. Packaged foods are OK. No meats or produce. Anything in large quantity could potentially result in a hassle if they think you are trying to import it to sell without paying taxes.

Do you speak Spanish or are there English speaker agents at the various borders?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal 8 ай бұрын
It is unlikely that the border agent will speak english at most central america border crossings. I've learned some spanish, but its pretty limited. The process at each border is pretty similar (except mex-USA) so you kinda have an idea of what you are trying to get done/what they will want from you and I would struggle through with my bad spanish.

Exactly CR it’s much elevated than Nicaragua but I love Nicaragua more because it’s mostly flat some mountains only in the North in El Crucero Carretera Sur going to Las Nubes it’s elevated and it’s just like Costa Rica cold and rain forest by the way that beach where you stop and all Wanacaste, Liberia, Nicoya Penninsula or foreland 100 years ago was Nicaragua territory both Honduras and Casta Rica had take over from Nicaragua lands! Both countries are great tho

Hello, based on your experience, do you think possible/reasonable to make a roadtrip along either the est or west coast of Costa-rica/Panama with the combination pickup/caravan (4*4)?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal 5 жыл бұрын
You won't be able to stay on the beach the entire way. There are no roads (not even dirt track) that go along all the beaches. But if you and your vehicle are ok with a bit of exploration and bumpy dirt roads, you can access nearly all of the coastline in Costa Rica with a 4x4 vehicle. Panama is a bit trickier because of large stretches of mangrove that will often separate you from potential beaches and the lack of access to the Darien Gap, but once again, if you are willing to look at some maps and drive down a lot of side roads, you can access a lot of the coastline. If you continue watching our videos you'll see that we explored most of the west coast of Costa Rica and will soon be releasing videos of our time exploring the coastline of western Panama and Bocas del Toro with our 4x4 truck.
@SwallCloud
@SwallCloud 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Interesting. Ok for no road as long as it's possible to drive across these 2 countries with being close to the nature and for that i need to be a little more precise by providing a vehicule combination example : it would be this 4*4 car kzbin.info/www/bejne/h57MkpWfh9aWnLM towing this 4*4 caravan kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIeodoKtm8l4p68#t=7.967395. Is that something possible or the vehicles will roll over? Do we have a service map guiding us for this kind of "roadtrip" nature travel in those two countries? Or maybe an application? Good news about your coastline videos, i'm interested and will follow up.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal 5 жыл бұрын
You'll be able to get most places with that truck and caravan. I personally don't like towing a trailer on bumpy roads and it may cause you some concerns if you want to camp on the sand or if you are there in the rainy(muddy) season, but otherwise you'll probably be ok if you take it slow.
@SwallCloud
@SwallCloud 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Good feedback. Apparently it can be very bumpy with this type of caravan kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJLSYmegpLZ4Y5Y but i guess you still don't like that easier. In your eyes, would it be easier/more adapted to use an earthroamer kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWeVo2eYfa2Ios0 ? or a 4*4 van like this kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqjZcnqge8qSg5Y would be enough ?
