So, the El Salvador border has been infamous for decades! I am really impressed at how quickly and effectively you guys crossed . I was crossing into El Salvador from Nicaragua in 1972. The Guards did not like my boss / instructor and they let every one else in our party into El Salvador and closed down the border when it was my turn to cross . Told me to come back in the morning and proceeded to doing target practice with their side arms ! Loud guns to be sure! They said that I could cross if I could knock down the tin can in three tries. I looked at them and emptied the bullets out of the gun, threw it at the can and knocked it down . They laughed, gave me a shot of some god awful booze and sent me on. Pretty good for 18 years old and second Foreign Country ever .

there's a Cascade waterfall In the middle if Imposible that has the freshest most coldest ice water imaginable. it's a great place to visit on a very very hot day
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
That sounds great. We hiked to where there was supposed to be a waterfall, but I guess it was the dry time of year because the water wasn't flowing. Still pretty though.

I don't really like heights either and Amie HATES them. I didn't spend much time near the railing, but had to do it for the video, right? haha

This is one of the worst, but it's pretty crazy to think these guys are waiting for 3 days to get across the border to a country that you can easily drive the length of in 1 day.

It’s been 30 years since I was last in Central America. Crossing from El Salvador to Guatemala and back again seemed very much simpler then. I did have to pay mordidas to an immigration official, but that wasn’t that much more. Perhaps double the posted price for the visas. The immigration official didn’t seem happy when I spoke Spanish to her, not the usual reaction I get as a Gringo speaking Spanish to native Spanish speakers.

So what country in Central America did you guys enjoy the most
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
Probably Costa Rica. Almost all of the beaches are public lands 100 meters from the high tide line, so lots of great, free camping and we got some of the best surfing of our trip there.

We did this crossing in February last year, but with a travel company. El Salvador was one of the first countries to do temperature checks for Covid at the border, which we were impressed by.

Could you do a video on any books, web sights, or apps that you would recommend.

Thanks for the input Eddie. We were just talking about that today. Seeing as how we take forever to get anything done I'll recommend checking out the ioverlander app: ioverlander.com And if you are traveling through Central America or South America I'de recommend joining the Pan-American travelers group on Facebook. facebook.com/groups/panamtravelers/ Another good website: wikioverland.org/Main_Page

Hi, can you help me to know how long did you spent on the borders? I'm trying to plan a trip and I'm afraid not considering the times of border properly.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
Everyone's experiences at borders are different. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. We averaged 3 hours per border crossing with the longest being 5 hours. hope you have a great trip

@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Sorry is there a way I can find out the cost of bringing a vehicle into each country. Fees and insurance?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal2 жыл бұрын
@@coconutmacaroon4907 No official information that I am aware of. Checkout Wiki Overland.com you might find the information there, but pay attention to when it was posted. You could also join the panamerican travelers group on Facebook and ask the question over there. Either way, be aware that the cost and even the process can change without notice. If you plan an average of $50 usd for TIP and insurance for each country, that would probably cover it for your budgeting.

These kind of border crossings are intimidating. Have you ever run into situation where you have had to "grease the wheels" or pay unofficial fees in cash?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal6 жыл бұрын
No. Most border officials are just doing their job. We did get ripped off for $20 USD by an official at the US/Mexico border but didn't realize it until we were crossing into Belize, so couldn't do anything about that. The border crossings are often just examples of bureaucratic inefficiency and an inability to adjust to increasing numbers of people needing to cross. But generally, if you just stay patient and do each of the needed steps, you will get through with out any major issue.

Unless they have weird settings, you'll see everything they have produced in chronological order.
