Nice to hear someone say good things about the etron. So-what is we have to plug in a little sooner than others! Being seniors, we enjoy stopping a little sooner than in a ICE car.
@omelvold2 жыл бұрын
Agree. I can add that when road tripping with kids, or anyone that’s not that interested in EVs, not having to go deep to get good charging speed is a blessing. That *flexibility* really makes up for the somewhat limited range (which is not really a limitation). Sometimes I even top up from like 80-100% if someone wants a coffe or a snack early, and it happens to be a fast charger there. Most of the time, the car is ready before we are. 🤩

You have an amazing amount of patience. I realize this is your “job.” But your planning is excellent, and like me, you generally give yourself a lot of safety margin. This real world experience should be mandatory for anyone considering an EV. It just reinforces my opinion that the current EV owners are beta testers, and the US is several years before EVs can be a reasonable alternative for most drivers. Keep it up!
@Ficon2 жыл бұрын
You normally drive more than 200 miles a day? Saying you don't want an EV because some day you might need to drive 600 miles is like buying that stupid double-parked dually truck because some day you might need to tow a trailer. The average US commute is around 35 miles a day, charge at home with a level 2 overnight every 4-5 days and it's much less of a hassle than an ICE car for normal use.
@mcar65922 жыл бұрын
@@Ficon you buy a vehicle for way more than just a commute. An EV may work for you and others. But there is a significant amount of the population that it does not work for. Not everyone does what you do.

@@mcar6592 Yup. The same as literally any other vehicle. So knock off the “EV buyers are beta testers” rhetoric. The only ones literally beta testing are the Tesla owners. EV range is a non-issue for the vast majority of drivers and infrastructure will get better soon (look at Europe).
@mcar65922 жыл бұрын
@@Ficon did you actually see the entire video? The problems with the chargers? He was stopping every 100-150 miles to be sure he could stay charged. If you had problems like that at the gas pumps, you would be furious. Plus, time is your most valuable asset. It’s the only asset that you can’t make more of. And yes, I drive fairly long distances frequently. Pulling heavy loads. A beta tester is someone who is willing to take a chance with a new technology, knowing there will be bugs that have to be worked out. I’ve got no problem with electric cars. Make them compete with all the other vehicles on the road without tax breaks, subsidies, road tax exemptions, tax rebates, free charging, fuel “credits” (to the tune of 1 billion per year for Tesla), and billions of our tax dollars being spent for charging stations that will never be profitable, The media is doing a full court press pushing this onto the public.

Just completed a road trip from Nashville to the Chicago burbs on 7/14-7/19 so I too stopped at the EA stations in Clarksville, TN, Paducah, KY and Mount Vernon, IL. Only 1 150kW charger worked at Clarksville and EA said that the whole station is down due to the need for a software update so it was probably not the Audi. My Kia EV6 could only get 92kW from the 150kW charger. Other than this station, the other 11 charging stops at EA were good. EA recommends using NFC in more rural areas where cell coverage may be lacking rather than starting charging via the app and as an added bonus the NFC payment activates quicker.

What mode are you driving in? The highway efficiency gain with lower ride height in Dynamic or Eco is around 10% (although Eco is too low and soft for terrible US roads, can hit bump stops on big dips) and you should be seeing more than 2.3 mi/kWh unless you are doing 85+ mph the whole way. Curious what your standard range test will come out at. In my experience, 2.5-2.8 mi/kWh is very doable with a warm battery pack.

I wish we had gotten the etron instead of a x5. Back in 2019 when we were looking for a new car for my dad, we loved the etron. And at that time they were greatly discounted. But we didn’t know anything about ev and were worried about the range, so we got an x5 instead. The etron is so nice and quiet. It better suits our driving.
