Driving Around - Ioannina Downtown

Today we are driving in Ioannina Downtown, the largest city of Epirus, also known as Giannena. Ioannina is one of the largest cities in Greece, with a rich cultural tradition, modern development enterprises and university structures. Among the diverse geographical features of the area, a special place is occupied by Lake Pamvotida, located next to the city, in which is also the Island of Ioannina, one of the two inhabited islands in a lake in Greece.
According to archaeological findings, the city was probably founded at the end of the 5th century BC and has a rich history, as it has starred in all important historical periods. The years of the Ottoman Empire are still evident in the old town, the historical center of Ioannina, which is located inside the castle. Ioannina was a multicultural territory, with the Christian, Islamic and Jewish elements dominant. This coexistence has left vivid memories and records in the historic center of the city.
Ioannina is a city full of buildings of characteristic architecture, museums and many places with a special history, with modern infrastructure and incomparable beauty that will make you fall in love with it at all times of the year.
