The Burger King you pass was actually founded before the Burger King chain, and a ruling against the chain building a restaurant within 20 miles of their restaurant still stands today.

My Grandmother lived in Mattoon for several decades. I remember as a child.....going to Walkers grocery store to ride the mechanical horse by the front door for a nickel. Going to Mattoon lake to feed the ducks. Pulling in to Mattoon and always smelling burning leaves and the seeing the old brick streets. Simpler times as they say

I remember going across the street with my nickle to "My Store" to buy a single Reese's peanut butter cup! Still love those to this day.

Thank you for making/posting this video. It's been many decades since I left Mattoon and really enjoyed the ride. I even saw my childhood home! So glad they did not tear up the brick road in front of it too.

Hey wait, when was this video taken, not uploaded taken? The movie theatre became part of a bar before I left in 98. I believe it was called Broadway Joes.

You can use AI to place yourself in a police chase in one of these "turd towns" (what the English call run-down towns) like Mattoon.
@mnoliberal73355 ай бұрын
But Mattoon looks pretty good, as good as when I lived nearby, in Paris around 1980. I was involved in EMS so we knew all the T*rd Towns and bad areas of each. Mattoon doesn't reach the T-Town level of squalor that I can see. Now they have m*th!

hmm interesting idea. just add some flashing red and blue lights and a police radio...
