Have people's driving standards dropped that much that I now get two videos out of one months capturing? Part 2 features more Private Hire drivers surprisingly, plus a really lovely lady who jumps a Red Light without knowing.

@@liveandletlive497 had he not tried to make her aware of her massive mistake, she wouldn't have known and not snapped out of her autopilot mode. That's what she said, she might have gone further in autopilot and had a further incident. Ashley approached her calmly and politely, just asking her did she realise. It was his tone of voice that kept things civil. Dangerous drivers on autopilot SHOULD be approached. I'd have done the same and depending on the driver's response, I would have uploaded the footage to the cops.

Traffic light controlled roundabouts can be lethal. And also utterly defeats the point of a roundabout in my opinon. Although I do understand the need for them. There's a major trafficlight controlled rounabout near me that has had the lights switched off for the last couple of weeks - the amount of very near misses I have witnessed on it from people blasting through without looking beacuse they didn't notice that the lights are off is nuts. Saw one motorcyclist do the most incredible stoppie because a someone came flying out and cutting them up. Major skill!
@JonnyJKF
@JonnyJKF 4 жыл бұрын
The worst ones are the ones where only some of the entrances/exits are traffic light controlled, but not all. Also roundabouts that have pedestrian crossing lights at the "mouth" of them that look like traffic light controlled roundabouts when you approach them on green, but don't stop the traffic on the roundabout.
@alanhindmarch657
@alanhindmarch657 4 жыл бұрын
The is a traffic light controlled roundabout I use everyday. The reason it has light is because it so busy all day some of the roads entering the road would never be able to get onto the roundabout, so the lights give everyone a chance. The problems I find with this type of roundabout is, drivers not looking at the road signs and markings so not using the correct lane or not keeping to their lane.

Current popular opinion: if I'm overtaking cars parked on my side of the road, I have right of way. Those in the know: look at this idiot. Current popular opinion: the green light means not even Thor's hammer can stop me. Those in the know: look at this idiot barging through the red.

The argument you always get from people in the first scenario is "Well I have to drive down your side of the road because mine is blocked? How else do you expect me to go this way!?" Like, "Yes, fine, but do so when there isn't any oncoming traffic (i.e me, you plonker)."
@PedroConejo1939
@PedroConejo1939 4 жыл бұрын
@James Stewart You _never_ have right of way, it's a mistaken idea. Being the first at a place where you would be expected to give way would not confer priority on you. Otherwise it can become a race to see who can get there first. You should give way to people coming the other way if you wish to pass parked cars, barging through does not give you any 'rights', it just means the person coming the other way needs to give way to avoid an incident. This relies on the awareness and good nature of other drivers and seems to be how a lot of drivers treat parked cars these days.
@marklittler784
@marklittler784 4 жыл бұрын
The first rule of the road is keep to the left, if gives more room for vehicles coming the other way to safely overtake bicycles and parked cars, many drivers seem to think their cars are nearer the kerb than they actually are, if they used their door mirrors they would judge their position in the road more precisely which most fail to do.
@alanhindmarch657
@alanhindmarch657 4 жыл бұрын
James Stewart yes I agree James if you are already passing the parked vehicles, but in this situation no. The driver decided because he was there first he would go through, so making the oncoming driver take evasive action, which means he was in the wrong. He probably didn’t look left before exiting the junction, which a lot of drivers don’t, then are surprised at what they then encounter.

As it happens he looked up before crossing and slowed after he got to the other side so yes, he was in control and aware of surroundings. But remind me how many people using mobile phones whilst cycling kill or maim others again? factually pedestrians do more harm to other pedestrians than cyclists do to pedestrians when the cyclist is at fault. even in the one sided government report in 2018 the author (who was slamming people on bikes re safety though it was supposed to be about increasing safety of people on bikes by addressing the main factors in road safety, that being motorists), had to admit albeit in the smallest footnote ever, that deaths between pedestrians and people on bikes were 50% greater at fault for pedestrians. Whilst too many, this number was 4 deaths over a period of 5/6 years were a person riding a bike was deemed to be at fault. I'm guessing when a pedestrian walks on a crossing when they have priority to do so like the person on the bike, with their phone in their hand and doesn't look up one iota you'd be making comment about that in the same way, no, thought not!

I am in constant conflict with people on those US dashcam channels about this. Some people seem to genuinely believe that they can go through a green light without needing to check for red light runners or other hazards. If there is one, well, it's the other party who's broken the law. One quarter of US road fatalities occur at traffic light junctions. It's not hard to work out why.

@GaffaTV
@GaffaTV 4 жыл бұрын
@TIGERWOODSBOYFRIEND oh I agree, but it's not just specific to the taxi industry - truckers think similarly too. There's just too many vehicles on the road. About the second point though - you need to remember that whilst the Highway Code / road rules dictate you're NOT allowed to park on double yellows, in bus stops etc - if a taxi driver was ever done for that - they can just use the "Duty of Care" excuse - and that works every time in that scenario. You mentioned about disabled people without making consideration that whoeever the taxi is picking up or dropping off, might also be disabled - and it might not even be a physical disability. These "more vulnerable" people **NEED** to be able to get as close as possible to where they're going. Can you imagine telling someone on crutches to walk 100m just so the taxi could park "safely and legally"? That's why Duty of Care legislation exists. I even had one taxi - in a bus stop - trying to pull out and I had the selfish attitude of "nope, you shouldn't even be there" - but that's just ignorance really. In Merseyside, there are taxi marshalls who are often inspecting taxis and private hire vehicles to make sure everything is proper. Don't know if they ever drive along with them anywhere to assess things but I've seen some inspections going on at 2am a few times.

@@_Steven_S I've always believed that for a left or right turn to be mandatory (legal requirement ) it has to have a standing signpost accompanied with a ground painted sign. Signage is very poorly maintained in UK. Many years ago in Dublin bus stop signs were covered with plastic bags due resurfacing of lane 3. I took advantage and used the out of use bus lane. I spoke to a traffic police officer about this and he told me I have every right to use it. It must have 2 signs 1 ground marking and other standing sign. The same applies in UK.

Lack of planning on the BMW driver's part. I wondered if the road markings for the right turn only had been obscured by light on the wet road, but it was as clear as day when I played it back again.
@gavjlewis
@gavjlewis 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I think lack of planning too. I think poor road markings played it's part as well. The marker board is seen at at 2:41, but it's a full 5 seconds at 2:46 before the worn right arrow road markings are seen. If a bus or lorry was stopped in front of the marker board the only marking would have been the worn one just before the junction. They should have marked the road where the marker board was to warn people early enough to select the correct lane in time.
@markgambrill
@markgambrill 4 жыл бұрын
If you look at 2:48 there is a sign that shows lanes merging. There is a lot of unclear signage (and road markings) so I would forgive the driver for not knowing the lane didn't go ahead. How they dealt with it is not great. A simple 'wait to filter' would have saved the Jag any bother and got them both moving more quickly.

I would like to see insurance companies should get together and employ staff to scour these dashcam videos. Where identifiable, serious driving fails could then be flagged up to the relevant insurance company. They could then write to the offender and say that either cover will not be renewed the following year or that premiums are going up in proportion to the offence. They would not have to prove anything as it will be a commercial decision that leaves the driver free to go elsewhere. They would easily recover the cost of employing staff.

I think the BMW driver genuinely thought it was a two lane going forward dual carriageway, the road markings were shit, the road was wet making the arrows harder to see, and when he realised his mistake, he merged sensibly and using his indicators. Maybe he was unfamiliar with the town/city and that particular road, and made a genuine mistake, like we ALL do. If he was being aggressive he would not have driven so slowly, and would not have indicated to merge. I don't think he did anything wrong, apart from be confused by unfamiliar roads and not see the terrible road markings in those wet conditions.

I used to commute by car a lot and whilst London is properly dog shit do there's a sort of predictability about it, from a population head POV it's relatively low, Luton as mentioned is shit, not just the locals but because it's a commuter through route and jammed to beggary. The very worst places are usually overly densely populated, poor/non existent road design, poor public transport and low cycling numbers due to the usual not feeling safe, so massively more people in cars than on foot or cycle. Add in governments who actively push for motoring as sole/main transport option and worse backed up by ineffective policing and justice system which lets off those that kill, maim and completely ignore the minor infractions which leads to so many other issues you have the worst of the worst. Whilst UK is piss poor, US is a shocker, 26,000+ annual road deaths, 3x that of UK population adjusted, Australia in some of the big cities feels worse than London and I say that as both a cyclist and a driver. Even so called safer countries for cyclists like France, Netherlands, Spain and Germany, deaths in those countries per population head and/or per driving mile is higher than here. I'd hate to say we should be thankful for small mercies as 1800 deaths and 23,000 serious injuries is just horrible and frankly criminal that the government does next to sweet FA about it, but it could be so much worse!

I’ve honestly never seen such bad red light jumpers! Is Liverpool just like this all of the time? I’m from Manchester and you never really see this. Certainly not when the light has been red for a few seconds, some really dangerous driving here!

Cyclecam Wyre Forest, Worcestershire wow really? Idk how so many people get away with it! I honestly see it so so rarely. And only really see it from people who are waiting to turn right but a few too many cars will follow sometimes when the lights already red. But never just straight up red jumping when it’s already well changed to red on a straight road

In fairness, the cyclist at 4:30 must've had a death wish to keep going whilst the car was maneuvering. The driver should have been more observant, but if they came together the car would always win the battle regardless of fault.

In America, we literally only have the lines in the middle of the road, and that's it. What's the point in having a million road markings????
@norcofoxxx
@norcofoxxx 4 жыл бұрын
American roads are literally intersection...straight road....intersection...straight road. In England we have lots of confusing roundabouts and roads which wander and weave in different directions. The road markings are super helpful if you miss a sign or don't have a satnav.

Actually the cyclist was at fault. As it could be clearly seen. The time factor involved shows that the cyclists was well at a distance to be able to see the car. Doing its manoeuvre to anticipate and slow down and stop if needed too. Blaming the car is bad advice.

@thescottishpanda5
@thescottishpanda5 4 жыл бұрын
@@ashley_neal my first guess would be a subtle reminder that it is not always drivers who make mistakes. My second guess would be for viewer entertainment. My third guess would be to show the cyclist holding his phone whilst riding, although you didn't focus our attention onto that mistake. To me most likely is my first guess, but what was your reasoning? Thanks and keep up the good work.

A kid falling off a scooter is no serious problem on a pavement but a different story on a road if anyone approaching doesn't account for that on approach. Perhaps I should highlight my thoughts more with similar clips looking forward? Thanks for your input. Ashley.

That would be helpful for some clips that may be less clear. I understand where you're coming from now but wouldn't have without your explanation. I think you do a great job of making things clear and this was just one occurrence where either I didn't understand/grasp the point or you didn't make your point clear enough. Please continue to upload your educational videos, they really help people to improve their driving (and in my case cycling). Thank you for replying!

Cyclists at 4.35 could have slowed. Had this happen to my wife going down single track road,cyclist could have pulled inside a drive way to let us pass but kept coming expecting us to stop. A lot of cyclists seems to think they have the god giving right to do as the please.
