@Tibbles I can relate to this. My dad is an ex driving instructor, and he taught me how to drive. Dunno why he chose that line of work as he's always been a nervous passenger, so you can imagine what he was like teaching his own son. It was no picnic! 😂😂😂

If I had seen the kid on the bike I would have moved well over to the left, the coast being clear, and given him a wide berth. I think coming to a complete halt is a bit of an overreaction. It's not the first time the driver is going to come into close proximity with an idiot on a bike and it won't be the last. You can't expect it to result in a complete stop every time. Learning to recognize and avoid problems is an important part of becoming a good driver. That doesn't mean stopping every time you see a potential problem.

4:18 -- It's great to see my clip make it in to the Best of 2020! Thanks Ashley! The clio in front was a mate from work and we pretty much drove behind each other for half of our journey home every day, and every time we got to this roundabout, we always said it's a dangerous one. There's so many near misses on it and probably just as many actual crashes

8:28 That is beyond sad. I assume that is a 30 zone, so it isn't like they can floor it anyway. I don't mind being behind learners, the only people I don't like being behind, are people braking erratically, unexpectedly, having ever-changing acceleration and deceleration for no discernible reason, and a poor understanding of how indicators should be used. Being behind someone driving badly, ended up with a tailgater getting mad, overtaking too close, immediately brake-checking and sending us into a ditch. They must have thought we braked checked them, but the car in front just slammed on the brakes when a lorry passed us on the opposite side, despite it being a very wide portion of road.

This form of education should be taken into every high school, almost guaranteed that 75%+ of a class room will have lost a friend or family member in a road accident. Having worked with young people for over 25 years, I have seen many families suffer the loss of a young son or daughter behind the wheel or in a mates car. Its much more common in rural roads, higher speed, more challenging roads, inexperience and showing off to their mates. Have a friend who lost a grandson 10 years ago, he was 18, the driver was 18, born on the same day, his twin. You raise awareness in a good way Ashley, keep doing it mate, education is the best method.

@James Stewart We all make mistakes and miss things time to time, Observers and Masters Distinction drivers included! I try to keep a close eye on the mirrors that associates are using, but even when they've looked right into the mirror, you can't be sure they've seen what's there. I think some drivers have a nasty habit of casting their eyes to the mirrors, but not actually taking in or processing the information that's available to them.

12:35 I had this happen to me every night for two weeks when I had to use the A1 (Yorkshire) on my moped. I was doing 60mph but it wasn't fast enough for the lorries. Once I even had to move out into the second lane out of fear that the lorry was going to drive into the back of me. I'm sure that the lorry drivers couldn't see me once they got right up to my back wheel. What was even worse is that there's been occasions when the spark plug cap has worked it's way loose which cuts all power to the bike and there's no hard shoulder or safe place to stop along that stretch of the A1. They call themselves professional drivers but most of the time their driving is anything but.

@speeddemon217a

If I remember correctly the learner failed because the examiner was the one that hit the brakes first, although the learner was only marginally beaten to the brakes. In that situation there's not much else that could be done except stop so it was possibly one of the most unlucky things to happen if you're on a test. It's unfortunate too that the examiner effectively had a head start in seeing the hazard since their sight line was marginally better by sitting further away from the centre of the roundabout.

This person staggering along was enough to scare me to pull over and dial 999, the police operator was very polite and was concerned that I was boarderline in a panic. hey ashley, just wondering why the video of your commentary on the policeman flashing his lights is unavailable?

I amazed my wife driving along in the dark through an estate last night. I suddenly slowed down. My wife asked what I'm doing as a young lad wearing all black ran across the road right in front of us without looking. I just about saw a spec move between the parked cars. His clothes are that dark you can barely make him out on the dashcam.

What ever happened with Ashley doing the IAM course? I think he was invited/planning to after those two clips came were discussed, but I don't think he's said anything since.

You should've bought trophies for each category and then allowed us to vote for our favourite clip from each selection. It could be the new Oscars for driving cockwombles. Better yet, you could've offered prizes for each section too like a free roasting from Jared's dad, free plumbing from Alan Goddard or a free drag race from the ex-IAM driver Your commentary for these clips has been legendary all year but I think your commentary at 23:21 deserves some kind of special recognition - excellent use of wit. The only disappointment from the whole video? Not one red light jumper. :(

When I had my driving lessons (13 years ago) my instructor told me: always be aware of your surroundings and act like everyone is out to get you! I always drive speed limit and leave enough space for learner cars or motorbikes, cyclists and never tailgate. It drives me crazy when people drive 20- 30 miles under the speed limit though 😅

The blue Megane at 15.09 was owned by me until June 2020. I sold it to a garage. It still hasn't been taxed, and MOT has run out. Lass driving it must still be getting away with it.

What on earth is the cammer at 2:55 driving? You can't be trying to overtake anything more than a bicycle with performance like that. It would have been quicker to get out and walk.

He will have likely already had to pass 30 cyclists and 10 cars before that point. It’s full of idiots doing 10mph along a national speed limit road which is many miles long. Not saying he did right but I must admit I sympathise

@8:56 I hope the police see it; he's number is clear as day. Taking his hands off the wheel to make rude hand signals is an offence.

Ashley your commentary on these videos reminds me of Alistair Stewarts narration on Police, Camera, Action from the 90's... (not that I'm sure you're old enough to remember that ;) ) Ha!

The Good, the Bad and...... who needs a Spaghetti Western when we have Ashley Neal? Well worth reviewing these clips for a variety of reasons.... even if just as a reminder of how not to behave on the road. Stay safe everyone and have a good Christmas..... even those in Tier 4 😿.
