At least the BMW driver who used his hazard lights acknowledged his mistake and apologised for it rather than doing what most idiots do, mess up and then brake check the victim for daring to blow their horn at them.

@@pussinboots1145 Yeah I agree with you as well, sometimes blowing your horn doesn't actually achieve anything if the person has already pulled out in front you, they can't turn back time and reverse their mistake. Blowing your horn should really only be used as a warning that you are there to prevent a situation rather than reacting to something that has already happened.

Yep, we all make mistakes, it happens. If the driver has the sense to acknowledge their mistake, they'll be far more likely to correct their mistake in the future, so it's vitally important to apologise, just like I do. It calms the situation down massively.

Clip 2, 0:44 made me smile. Reminded me of a moment with a learner, a small-ish roundabout, with nicely paved sloping sides. We got close, then gently rode onto the edge, steered tighter, rose up the slope a little more, and continued around with the car leaning well, until a gentle drop off as we headed towards our exit. All calm and composed, nice observations, good mirror check and signal before leaving. No reaction from the learner at all to the lean. She seemed unconcerned when we talked about it later. Unfathomable was the following car, tight to our rear bumper the whole time. A fully liveried BSM car should be a warning to keep away. Is a learner half-way up the roundabout not enough extra warning to keep even more space? Apparently not.

That is something I get to see quite often. _Most_ farm vehicle drivers will pull in to a lay-by to let a queue go past but sometimes there just is nowhere to do that an you just have to live with a few minutes on your journey. A good camera that'll pick up number plates should allow that type of stuff to be sent to the local plod. Ours will certainly use video evidence to prosecute.

@@PedroConejo1939 I'm all for the police prosecuting the idiots that put innocent lives at risk. Accidents happen of course - but it's not going to be an 'accident' when you knowingly overtake on single or double white lines - in bad light - just to save a minute or two of time. I'm assuming that's a 60 mph road? Who knows what, and at what speed, is coming the other way... and on a brow too? Absolute madness.

A lot of dashcam videos are littered with poor overtaking, especially on country roads under NSL conditions. Is this maybe because we don't often learn to overtake as part of our driver training? I don't recall doing so. I was only shown later on by an IAM instructor but with no mandatory training required once you've passed your test it's rare for such extra tuition to be given or indeed sought. It's amazing also how few people realise that solid white lines apply no matter what traffic is ahead and no matter how slow they are travelling and that this includes cyclists. Just because it's clear doesn't make it legal.

Happened to me a number of times at a particular mini-roundabout on a rural NSL60 S2 where the exits are left and straight on with no bollards. Most people woosh through at 40mph. If I try to do the right thing and go round the painted island (which requires slowing to ~10-20mph), people either think I'm turning left without a signal, or just don't care, and speed past, overtaking me at the junction. I've now gotten into the habit of slowing regardless and moving slightly to the left at the junction, but by less than a metre so that I'm blocking the vehicle behind from passing like that, but it means I have no choice but to drive over the island.

As a learner I say, please don't overtake us when we are turning right! I had a moped do it to me the other day and I have to say it is scary thinking you almost killed someone. Not to mention that if we crash, it affects our entire driving "career" and the repairs will likely cost much closer to the full price of the vehicle, yet if an experienced driver crashes a nicer car there really isn't any repercussions for them besides having to pay out a little money.

That last clip I believe is the A158 Skegness (Lincolnshire) road, not far from the Snipdales turning (I think that's the sign for Scrafield at the end) and if so people over take like that on that bit of road with or with out a tractor. I followed the Skegness bus not long ago, who was to 'his' credit not going slow, and people were still passing both myself and 'him', so I'm sadly not shocked to see that. I'm fairly local so go that way often, but it's just a shame other people seem to be so impatient. Anything under 59mph and they're off! I've personally had to avoid head ons with motorbikes on those corners! They think they're at Cadwell or something!

It is generally accepted that the description of an individual as a ‘pillock’ is more properly constructed with the addition of the adjective ‘right’ immediately prior in the sentence. 😜

Ash (or anyone) on red light jumpers at certain hot-spots: Should barriers or bollards be put in place? Like the ones on level crossings? Or should Gov/Council just add red-light cameras to these problem areas? I'd start them at £2000, and 5 points. If there's been deaths at some areas too make it like £5,000.

Happy New Year. BTW I'm not sure you're correct about pedestrians having right of way. Do they not have a duty to take reasonable care? Of course, if you're driving in an area where pedestrians can step into the road you should drive as if they will: having right of way is of less importance than not injuring someone.

I only passed in late 2019, and wasn't out and driving until June 2020, so I have no basis for this, but it feels like people are worse for not using indicators, but perhaps I am just driving significantly more, so it feels like people are worse after lockdown.

I'm shocked at that last clip that the tractor actually had lights hooked up. Most just don't bother. Also a question. You mention at around 5:30 or so about having to give way to a pedestrian when they set foot on the road. When did that happen? I was under the impression that that is what crossings are for and they only have right of way at authorized crossings, especially when there is one just a few feet down the road.
@brianocampo7981
@brianocampo7981 3 жыл бұрын
At that point it's more common sense than the law that 'you've gotta give way to them'. The pedestrian can (and should) get charged with causing a traffic hazard, but that won't let you off a careless driving charge if you see them but don't take enough action to avoid hitting them.

I had a car drive at me the other day on my side of the road i was forced to stop, for him to tell me to reverse so he could park on the pavement? There was no traffic behind me and nothing behind him I just couldn’t understand what he was thinking? I refused to move he tried to force me out the way by edging closer so i just put my handbrake on and whipped out my newspaper i love stand-offs 😂

Well done by John at the end there; but I don't like overtaking at night on country lanes; it's just too damned dangerous. Suppose the car coming the other way has no lights on and you don't see them? Recipe for disaster; just sit there and wait till the tractor turns off.

To be fair to the wagon driver in clip 6 , the astra driver was lucky not to get shunted back onto the slip . When he then cut back into lane 1 it might have been to " get his own back " but from experience I know you can't stay in lane 2 doing 56mph , you need to move back ASAP . To allow bmw and audi drivers to pass you and accelerate back up to the 80mph they were doing before

The white car at 1:27 is really worrying to me. Should've at the very least seen the pedestrian in their peripheral vision. And of course, been more aware... The motorbike at 3:30 is atrocious though. My CBT instructor told me that unless in very specific situations, overtaking on the inside is extremely idiotic/dangerous. Now I see why

I’m sure selfish drivers and impatients and self confidence and the capability of the vehicle play towards I want to be first syndrome.. also I have an Italian friend who seems to think this is southern Italy and does nothing to alter his driving from the terrible ways Italy is famous for. So I would like to see tamper proof dash cams in all delivery vehicles for that reason mr DPD did that stupid Manoeuvre and maybe a test before being able to change or use a foreign licence if the person is resident within the country. I moved from one First bus company in one county to another county and before I worked there even though it was the same company, they made me do a mock test to see if I was capable first. I passed with 1 minor! Also happy new year! 👍
