In 2005 'Moose' was still there in Solitaire with his famous applepie, I shared 'appeltaart' with a French and a German guy and a few South Africans I met in this wonderful place. Not long after that our Dutch Ton van der Lee (sold all his possessions in the Netherlands) came to Solitaire and worked with Moose. In 2005 it was only Moose, appeltaart and one petrol pump. I loved the place!

I'm not a lover of apple pie. Bit after this video, when l go there, apple pie with cream and a glass of milk will definitely be enjoyed.

Thank you! How long does the drive take from Sesriem to Windhoek? Does it make sense to continue to Gobabis the same day?
@NickfrNamibia2 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much you stop? Usually people stop to eat, take pictures etc. You can do the drive in about 6 hours, so if you leave early, you can still get to Gobabis. So its possible, but I would rather spend the night in Whk. Where do you want to go from Gobabis?

@@NickfrNamibia Thank you very much for responding! We plan to cross to Botswana the next day and tried to cover most of the distance in the first day

At the 1 minute mark, it looks a little trecherous. Is that terrain difficult to navigate? Thanks!
@NickfrNamibia Жыл бұрын
its a built road, just go slow and stay in a low gear. If you are not comfortable there are a few different routes to get to Sossusvlei from Windhoek
@davidvarrie76033 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, last time we went they had big signs up, no trailers. Gamsburg pass also viable at the moment. We planning a long trip next year March. Any more info I would appreciate.
@NickfrNamibia3 жыл бұрын
pleasure, yes that sign is still there with a new one just after it requesting heavy vehicles switching to lower gears. With the heavy rains in Namibia during the last few months it is difficult to say. If you have Facebook there is a very good local group I can refer you to. Members update it daily as they drive the roads and you can also ask questions about specific roads.

Update: I am know in debate with someone wrt your question, there seems conflicting information. I am going to have a look at my footage to confirm. The FB group is called Padlangs in Namibië - Roads in Namibia the Admin Toni K Hart is extremely knowledgeable&passionate about Namibia. I am not affiliated to the group, but do use it and contribute when I have info to share.
@NickfrNamibia3 жыл бұрын
Hi David, after some more research i am told trailers and caravans are not allowed. The signs, which I confirmed from my footage are there, is applicable to trucks/heavy vehicles only.

Love your videos! We are planning a trip to Namibia this december for christmas and new years. Do you have any general tips/advice for summertime in Namibia? One thing we're not sure on is if we should get extra insurance coverage with our rental camper truck. Hopefully the heat will be bearable!! cheers
@NickfrNamibia3 жыл бұрын
thanks guys! not much you can do about the heat🙃 and it will be hot. Drive early in the mornings, I avoid driving long distance between 10:00-15:00. Also AC kills your fuel consumption. Most places will have pools, to break the midday heat. Protect yourself: Hat, sunscreen, light long sleeved shirts. But you are travellers, so you know all of this🙂 With the amount of gravel driving it is always sensible to get the extra tyre and windshield protection. I've never taken more than that. Read the fine print on the insurance, sometimes they dont even cover offroad driving. Drop an email if you have more questions

Hi, are camping 4x4 trailers allowed up Spreetshoogte pass. If we are, please let me know.
@NickfrNamibia3 жыл бұрын
Yes they are David, up and down. It was changed after the entire pass was brick paved (not asphalt) from top to bottom.

Do you think this trip can be done with a Toyota RAV4 rental from Hertz? Or do I have to get a Hilux or FortRunner?
@NickfrNamibia2 жыл бұрын
Yes it can. If possible, ask for a second spare wheel, just to be safe
@chrisak492 жыл бұрын
@@NickfrNamibia Thanks for reply. I managed to find a rental company that has Suzuki Jimny for rent. It seems like a legit off road vehicle. Do you think there is anything wrong with it or should I spend more for a Fortruner?

Is it possible to travel from Windhoek to sossusvlei by car? Like a VW polo? What's the best route to take?
@NickfrNamibia2 жыл бұрын
Its possible but not advisable, it is a very long distance on gravel. If you do it, make sure to ask for a 2nd spare wheel.
