前回の権兵衛トンネルのときにもコメントしましたが、高速代を節約して関西方面へ行く時は、権兵衛トンネルから宮ノ越・木曽福島方面へ出てしまうので、奈良井ー塩尻間のR19は、とんと通らなくなりました。そのため、19:29～22:05区間に新しいトンネルが出来ていたとは知りませんでした。おかげで、21:49の左側にチョコンとある「是より南 木曽路」の石碑も、立ち寄る人は激減することでしょうね。

奈良井宿は数ある中山道の宿場町の中でも比較的綺麗に整備がされ、当時の旧街道らしい雰囲気がしっかり残されていますね。数年前に見たテレビ番組でここを取り上げていた時には、もっと観光客で賑わっているイメージでしたが、新型コロナウイルスの影響なのか観光客が少なく、なんか寂しいですね…(逆に言えば穴場観光スポットかも？)。 国道19号の塩尻～中津川の区間は、少しでも遠回りの中央自動車道を迂回しようとする車が殺到することから、通称「木曽高速」とか揶揄されているくらいで結構事故も多いようですので、運転には十分気を付けた方が良さそうですね。 昨年の国道19号のバイパス付け替え工事完成で国道指定から外された区間(19:33～22:15)は、車がすっかりいなくなり、最近まで交通量が多い国道だったとは思えないくらい静かになりましたね。

Beautiful nature, ugly buildings. Same problem as in the US. Nice driving, though.
