We have been driving our Florida plated Jeep all through Mexico for over two years. We crossed with our dog as well and no one asked to see her vet records. It's ok to travel on the "libre" or free roads we have many times. Do not drive at night it is unsafe. Have your camera on for police interactions and don't pay the "mordidas" let them know that you know your paperwork is correct and pretend you don't understand anything else they are saying. We have traveled to over 90 pueblos magicos in 28 states it is a beautiful country with amazing people!

Just don't drive at night or too early in the morning....And you'll be ok.... that's my route 2 times a year I drive from SLC all the way to Manzanillo Mexico....

The trash completely blows our mind. Like why!?😮 We might never drive back again - it’s too disgusting 😢 Being from the US - I feel nervous when I’m out here and have had to run from run fire. I now dress to run when I go shopping etc. If Mexico is better than that - I’m in! 🎉

The immigration part made me a bit nervous, but I can understand why he wore a mask. Most cops/federal officers in Mexico tend to wear masks to protect their families from cartel retaliation.
@nicoleandmico
@nicoleandmico 3 ай бұрын
Yeah it made sense he was wearing a mask. Evie wasn't a big fan, but she's generally a very protective girl. We're training her to get used to people approaching the car, but it'll take some time I think :)

I know that people warning you about the safety of Mexico might be annoying but may just be warranted given what happened to the 2 Aussie surfing brothers and their American friend recently in Baja. All 3 were shot in the head and killed by thieves trying to steal the wheels off of their car while they were camping. Now I realise is not a common thing to happen, all I am saying is that you should not get too complacent and believe Mexico is totally safe. This comment is meant with love so please don’t take it the wrong way ❤

Don’t be embarrassed! Like every country, there are always ups and downs but please do know that we are never discouraged from traveling through Mexico. It’s an amazing country in so many ways! ☺️

@@nicoleandmico I understand, although, I have been seeing this since I was a kid, a long time ago, and I haven´t seen this improve haha. And I know we have the idea that is wrong to dump garbage where we are not supposed to. I am pretty sure, that some of the people who have actually dumped garbage out the windows, have visited the US, and they don´t do that there, because they know it´s wrong, they even do stop signs well paused, exaggerated to me, I say even better than its citizens haha. Once back in Mexico, they keep doing all the wrongs once more. And the sad part is, that their children grow up knowing that dumping garbage in green areas is ok. I hope this helps to understand a little more of our culture. And that there are people here, that even if we are Mexican, we don´t not see this as normal behaviour. I just started to watch your journey, and it looks pretty cool.

I do agree that Utah is pretty awesome! Colorado is also stunning although would've been a bit out of your direct route. The same thing happens at the California/Baja border, you just drive through with no controls, but coming back into the US is a totally different matter 😁 Loved the video, thanks for sharing!

One of the best videos of actually coming into Mexico and going through the chaos at the FMM and TIP place. Seriously unreal how they don't have proper signage and how hard it was to find! Also, you didn't mention if you paid the $400 for your auto? I'm sure you did. I was told that I would have to return to that exact same area in one of the little huts across the road to get the $400 back before the 6 months was up. Geez! Not sure if I will ever make that drive again or not!?
@nicoleandmico
@nicoleandmico Ай бұрын
Thank you! You’re right, we did pay the $400 for our vehicle and to get it back we went to another Banjercito at the border leaving Mexico and entering Guatemala 😊

I will have to check online or find a number to call, since i am temporary resident driving with my car there. I wish there was more info on the price for import permit, documents needed, if Mexico insurance is needed and if its still 6 months the permit is good for.

Thank you so much! We have slowly learned to be fairly adaptable and always go into a country with caution, but a positive attitude and respect for our status as visitors. So far that has left us with nothing but good experiences 😀

wonder do pets need any vaccination or any certificates? I am aware if flying with pets, some certificates are required, looks like for people traveling with pets, driving by road trip should be a better idea?

So far in our experience between Canada/USA/Mexico, we have found it to be very easy to bring the dog with us. I think going back in the reverse might require more paperwork though. Thankfully, Mexico has a low rabies rate in dogs, so they aren't on the USA's high-risk list. If you travel to a high-risk rabies country (like Guatemala for example), then I know getting back into the USA is much more difficult
