Another Good instructional video Jas! I which that the channels and holes we have here carry some fish, Ive tried a few times casting into the hole were the wave came up and broke onto sand but didn't get a bite. Might have to make a trip to Muriwai one time. The reason we got a Kontiki is because we never caught any fish on the rods and we ended up wasting money on bait and petrol. They do seem to hold a good number of crabs though that will nibble on the bait before the fish get to it. Tight Lines
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing5 жыл бұрын
Cheers LTF - how deep are the holes, channels and how far out are they from the shoreline? Some holes will hold fish and others not so much depending on what food is in there - have you fished them before light and late evening? Have you tried a lot of them or just gave up after trying a few??? Tight lines

Kia ora Jas love the videos and shot for the tips bro. just a quick question i have a mitsubishi outlander hybrid that has 4wd you reckon id make it on and off the beach
@Reel-Kiwi-FishingАй бұрын
Kia ora M_K13 Being hybrid the main thing I would think could be a problem is the salt and sand getting near your battery/electrical side of things. If it's 4WD it shouldn't be a problem on that side of things. When driving beaches you will get a lot of salt/sand flicked up the underbody of the car and does make it's way into all sorts of places. If I had a hybrid I probably wouldn't use it for beach driving knowing that it could cause in issue to the electric side of things. 4WD off road like in mud and puddles etc is a little different as you don't really have that corrosive factor like salt and sand.

Awesome knowledge your sharing there brother, can't wait to get out with my son and a mate and give it a crack! what's your go to bait fishing Muruwai pls?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing2 жыл бұрын
Cheers MH I mainly use half pillie but also chunks of bonito work a treat - once the fish are on the bite and I catch a Kahawai I switch over to fresh cubes. Fresh Kahawai can get you the bigger fish as it stays on the hook longer, if the fish go of the bite then I drop back to pillie. Tight lines

Sup Jason. Thought il just give this another watch lol been to muriwai maybe 4 times since last month and not even a nibble. Been driving down the beach and using these tips tho. Maybe still reading the beach wrong. Just need to keep trying and not to give up. I normally take my wife with me and she's slowly getting into fishing too. She likes going to the rocks to catch baby fish but I keep telling her that you caught some big snaps off the beach. Good video and I'll keep trying.

I didn't realise you could fish the highest tide there? Thought your Truck would get washed away or is there a certain section the tide doesn't reach up to high? Awesome vid
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi MH Yep there are places you can park over the high - there are little car parking spots along the way and even a few little spots in close to the dunes. Once you start coming across the pine trees this is where the water can come right up to the dune so to be safe we always come back a few K from there if fishing that area and find a spot to park. Tight lines
@zagman514 жыл бұрын
Great vids, thanks. Just concerned that at high tide there’s not much packed sand to drive on, so you must be driving on the softer stuff then? And apparently you need a permit to drive on Muriwai beach and although it’s free, I saw a couple of people being pulled up there and told to leave by park rangers last week (and two unlicensed off road bikers caught by the cops).
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
@@zagman51 I like to travel half tides along the beach - occasionally we have moved if fish aren't biting which can be on the softer sand but to get to our spots we like to drive it no later than that half tide if coming in. Yep have to go on line and lasts for a year - with Muriwai becoming a lot more popular I would say it will get a lot more patrolled and I'm hoping the idiots that I have seen sometimes do not get the beach closed for the rest of us. We are lucky what we have in such a beautiful place so we need to keep it that way.... Tight lines

Great vids mate. Is it possible to drive to the end spit and fish it through the high tide?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing5 жыл бұрын
Hi D D There is a sign about - 2-3K before the end stating no entry past this point, this gets patrolled sometimes by the army guys so going past this is at your own risk.

@saltnfreshwaternz19745 жыл бұрын
REEL KIWI FISHING FISH WHISPERER it's a toyota highlander. Do you need special wheels for the beach?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing5 жыл бұрын
@@saltnfreshwaternz1974 - you can buy specialized sand tyres and some people let a bit of air out to get more tyre on the sand but I just have standard 4WD tyres and never deflate. All sorts of 4WD drive the beach even Hiace vans, Rav's etc - you would be fine but the best thing to do is go on a nice weekend do a half tide going out as this will give you a good 4-5hrs to play around and get use to it. There will be lots of others around to pull you out if you ever did get stuck but truly couldn't see that happening. You could also go out there but don't drive on and just watch a few people driving it - go to the cut behind the gulf course and walk out and just observe. Like I was saying the hardest part is crossing over the dune once on the beach and follow that hard sand you'll be fine. Tight lines

Will this work in a fwd, drove abit into the sand then got nervous and turned around. cheers
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi LB No you won't be able to cross over the dune at the start - it's very soft and has big ruts right along it, I would never try it in a FWD you would get stuck without doubt maybe not even AWD but I know guys do cross over in AWD.

Do quad bike struggle with the super soft sand there ?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi SS You should be fine on the quad - lots of guys drive Muriwai on bikes, just use the same rule for your first few times - go half tide out and come back half tide in... If you are thinking of crossing the little dune to get to the beach by quad do it on a bit of rainy day and the sand will be a lot more compact and hard. Tight lines

Reckon I could drive on a beach in a RWD Mazda Bongo with the 4 back wheels?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
Personally I would never drive one unless in a 4x4 - but that's not to say there aren't places you cant. Most of the problem lies with the entry to the beach especially on the west coast were sand movement is daily due to winds and high swells - there are beaches like Doubtless bay that would be no problem so it really comes down to if the entry allows it or not. Hey mate can you drive up the beach on a high tide
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing5 жыл бұрын
It can be a bit of a night mere in the soft sand the whole way - you would have to watch for over heating in the tranz if auto and maybe just over heating all together - this is why I go in half tide out then back out half tide in or spend the day right through the tide...
@MWK-MagicWoofKennels2 ай бұрын
Is your car safe there high tide?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing2 ай бұрын
Hi MWK - yep there are places you can park over the high tide. If you go past the bombing range where you start to see the trees meeting the dunes you can get cut off so I always stay a good 3-4k's away from the end. Drive up half tide in stay over the high then drive back out half tide out.
