I did Melbourne to Sydney once in a VE SS. 6.0L V8. Filled up just outside of Melbourne and made it to Sydney on one full tank. Filled up at a Servo in Villawood. Average consumption was something like 8.7L/100km. These days I drive a BA XR8 and they drink a bit more. But both awesome engines. Go the mighty V8.

On the highways their pretty decent. I can do Adelaide to Marla on one tank, which is more than Mel to Syd.

@@RossReviewsau I do drive like a granny I must confess..lol I did Bundaberg to Sydney in March because I was driving back an XR8 I bought (it had 6spdM + 4.11gears, no tune though) and it averaged 10.9-11L/100. The LS engines for what they are do really good highway economy

Yup, my cammed manual VF uses less fuel at 110 on the highway than it does at 60 (doesnt like 5th/6th @ 60 - cam surge lol)!! Gets down to 8L/100 on the cruise - 6th gear and the factory 3:45 diff gears - its only happy on the highway!!! (from a fuel use perspective). ...and yes, that bloody final drive is getting thrown away - it needs a harrop 4:11 truetrack - badly!
