Driving On WA SR-3 North In 1982 (Shelton)

Back in 1982, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove North on SR-3 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

Ooooh yes. I live in Shelton and there's so many landmarks that today, are gone. Mill Creek Tavern Mill Creek Motel The Timber Bowl (a bowling alley) Several other landmarks today, aren't yet built: The Bayshore gas station The present-day junction of SR-3 and Mason Lake Road (back then, it was County Road 50 when this was shot) Oh man, thank you SO MUCH for this upload! My hometown!

Was thriving back then compared to now. The old downtown is half shuttered and car dealerships are all gone. KFC and a Chinese food place? Would have loved to be able to zoom in on spots for sure.

I just drove this a couple days ago on the way to bremerton. Looks almost the same lot of closed up shops, and the hyway leaving town the trees and bushes are all grown up

First time I've seen any video footage of SR-3. Would there be any footage of SR-3 from Bremerton to the Hood Canal Bridge (the northern terminus of SR-3 and intersection with SR-104) out there? I can remember riding that stretch of SR-3 a lot when I was little (mainly from the Hood Canal Bridge to Silverdale, because I lived in Jefferson County when I was little and my family often did their big box store shopping in Silverdale, which meant we always took SR-3).

@@highwayvideos3434 Great, thanks. Really enjoy the uploads of what Washington's highways looked like years ago. My dad was a chief engineer for the ferries for many years (retired in 2003, the same year I graduated high school). I may have to show him some of these videos at some point.
