Driving Sd.Kfz.2 Kettenkrad From Collection Hall

One of our volunteers learns how to start and drive our Sd.Kfz.2 "Kettenkrad". The Kettenkrad is one of the members' favourite vehicles, especially when they get to ride on it during our Open Day events.

Ketten - tracks, K(raft)rad - motorcycle Sd.Kfz means „Sonderkraftfahrzeug“ - Special purpose vehicle.

Track is KettenK, rad is vehicle. A Fahrrad is a bicycle...

Does the front wheel actually steer? Or is there somehow a linkage between handlebar direction and tracks?

There was an an linkage between handlebar and steringgearbox. After some degree to the left or rigt the Steringgerbox start working, the wheel was only used to correct the strait forward drive.

You can drive it without the front wheel, the handlebar is what "applies" the brakes on the tracks.

You have a later model with closed siderails. The rear housing is wrong, and was only used on the earliest model. The sharp edges weren't practical.

4:58 -- when the pointless faffing about ends, and the ACTUAL DRIVING begins. yes, they spent more than 2/3 of a viden entitled "driving the Kettenkrad," NOT DRIVING THE KETTENKRAD. And then they drive it like 4 feet. You guys owe me 9 minutes of my life back.
