Driving the DeSoto for the first time in YEARS!

On today's episode we try to make our 1950 DeSoto Custom run and drive under its own power! The flathead six cooperates, the carburetor gets a clean, and we test out the fluid drive transmission!

Love that Desoto! Those early Chrysler products were built like tanks to last. They had a reputation for solid good engineering and comfort. Glad to see this one is so stock original right down to its 6volt electrics. I'm not sure,but I think the tranmission was called Hydrive.

Thank you, I'm pretty lucky to have got one so original! I will have to look up the Hydrive title, I gathered Dodge, Chrysler, and Desoto all had their own name for the same transmission.

@heathensgarage your probably right. Like ford's falcon calling it's automatic tranmission fordamatic,while mercury comet called thiers mercomatic. Same tranny.

I learned to drive on one of these beasts. It was a only a two speed, and it would only shift when you lift your foot off the gas. And you don’t need to push in the clutch to stop.
