Fun fact: Up until the 60s the UK had a law that classed 3 wheeled vehicles as motorcycles. Up until the 50s cars and their associated costs (tax, insurance etc) were kept prohibitively expensive for the working classes. Owning a car was seen as a wealth status item. Due to the law mentioned above, Three wheeled vehicles like the smaller Isetta were not classed as cars and were taxed as motorcycles, making them affordable vehicles for the masses for the first time.

There is one of these, albeit one of the smaller ones, in my town of Traverse City, MI where the current owner restored it. The current owner is a relative of a person that was pivotal in jumpstarting the automotive program we have at my local community college and that person was the original owner of this particular Isetta. Every summer, typically a week before school starts we have a car show that raises funds strictly for the automotive program. This car show is a memorial car show named in that person's honor (who originally had the Isetta), after they passed away. This person was so influential in making sure that there was an education program for automotive repair in Traverse City..

I was told by my Grandfather and my Father too that if I ever bought a BMW they would come back from the dead and haunt me. My Grandfather served in WWII and was involved in the liberating of Various camps and my dad did some tours in Vietnam. I ended up serving for 30 years too, but I guess I get it. I mean BMW made engines for Germany and was very involved with the Nazi Regime so it was a product that was banned for me. There are others too but I won't say the names to be fair. So every time I see a BMW I think of the atrocities my grandfather described in the horrors he witnessed during that time. I know we should forgive but in this case I get it. I won't touch anything from the Middle east. Just how it is. The enemy is always going to be the enemy in some places. Never the less great video from you guys again. I enjoy all you make.

Man. The Yiddish music in the portion of the background while getting into a German car is pretty funny. Nice touch

I still have fond memories sitting in an even smaller version with a 300cc engine with only 13 hp, I was in the BMW World in Munich and they actually let people sit in it and drive it for a few meters.

Yep...Nolan and Justin definitely DID THAT 🤣☠️ Nice to see the Isetta 600 with the extra door and MO' POWAH in the wild though

Without the Isetta, the X, M, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3 series and Z4 wont be hitting the streets. Just imagine a world without BMW.

You should visit the Gilmore Car Museum in Michigan and check out all of their cars there. They even have the Isetta you're showing here and the EV you rode around in!

Donut should cover the BMW 700, both the sedan and coupe.

The much more conventional 700 was really the car that saved BMW. To quote Wikipedia : The BMW 700 is a small rear-engined car which was produced by BMW in various models from August 1959 to November 1965. It was the first BMW automobile with a monocoque structure. The 700 was a sales success at a time when BMW was close to financial ruin.[5] The 700 was also successful in its class in motorsport, both in its stock form and as the basis of a racing special called the 700RS.

our family had one just like that, the Deluxe, in 1966-9. none of us knew it was a BMW. the old man being Italian thought it was too.

The 3 wheeled model. was actually licensed as a motorcycle in some countries and qualified for a MUCH lower tax. (Reverse was also supposed to be locked out but.. an easy fix)

I'm surprised so few in the comments have pointed the obvious out yet; that's clearly not an Isetta, but a BMW 600. Similar to the Isetta, but bigger, symmetric wheels, rear door, rear seat, different taillights... also powered by a 600cc engine as opposed to the 250cc and 300cc of the Isetta - so not the "smallest BMW ever". It was not designed in Italy either. I guess you guys call it an Isetta as more people have heard of the Isetta, but it's the equivalent of calling a VW Squareback a Beetle.

Would pay big money for Nolan and Justin to do a buddy cop tv show with this car as their cruiser.

You both smiling the entire run, i think that said everything about the car. Don't care of the shape, big or not, it's fun and that's matter.

Kinda wish they made cars for cheap like this today. Something simple and reliable.
