My current F31 is my first Automatic and my last car was a manual E91. I would not go back to a manual BMW for a daily driver ever again now the ZF8 is just pure engineering brilliance! They are meant to be even better when they are mapped but I’ve not explored this route yet.

Enjoyed your Vid. I purchased the Z4 M4.0i which has 382 HP. It is a beast and would rather have it that a M3 any day. Not into 4 door's. As far as stick shift, BMW won't make the current version in a manual anytime soon. The ZF trans is very sport if you put in sport mode and select individual options, takes the car up to a different level. As far as the comments that convertible's are ugly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Cheers.

Spot on Tommy. My dealership loaned me the Z4 M40i after my F80 was totalled and while I awaited prep of my M5 Comp. I fell in love with the Z4 - so drivable and smooth yet plenty of power to use. It was white too :)

If you really want to feel the true power of this car you need to drive the M40i not the 30i Which by the way has 110 less horsepower , and actually the correct engine size of this vehicle is 2.0L / 4C not the 3.0 / 6C Big difference buddy

BTW, I am being offered by BMW a 2020 brand new 20i with manual box WITH 18% DISCOUNT, would you recommend it? The gear stick looks a bit cheap to me, and I am not sure if it's more fun than an auto (they only have test car in auto so I didn't get a chance to drive that brand new stick shift car)

Nice review! I’m a lifetime MT driver and I’ve had my F82 for the past two years but currently I have a M340i loaner and I’m honestly blown away. It’s the first modern automatic I’ve driven but I really really get the appeal now - in a normal driving, which is most of the time on public roads, the transmission makes it feel way faster than my M4. I can imagine the Z4 was a blast even with half the power. Thanks for the honest review - relatable lol!!

I have the E89 (35is) drove the G29 (M401). G29 is better in al objective aspects. But still love my E89, being a brute, unpolished mucle cruiser, being very liberal with the ESP. Now 202.000km on the clock. I'll stick with it for a while :)

That's why BMW and Toyota partnered over the Z4/Supra in the first place. By having multiple companies do R&D, they split the R&D costs rather than one company bear all of the costs. And the same reason Toyota partnered with Subaru for the 86.

Hehe - No offense intended, but IMHO, you will never, ever purchase the 30i since you have experienced the M3. JMO though. That said, you might like the M40i. Maybe test that one. The M40i is one of the very few cars that I am looking at to replace my 2006 SLK350 Mercedes that I have driven for 13 years. Still not tired of it, but thinking of possibly changing just to be changing. Nice video so thanks.

In mid-April I special ordered a 2021 Z4 S330i M Sport with the Premium Package, Lava Red seats, and the Adaptive Suspension. It is scheduled to arrive at my dealer the second week of June. I drove both a 330i M Sport and the M40i at a dealership and I liked the 50/50 balance of the 330i M Sport far better than the front heavy M40i. Yes, the M40i is far faster in a straight line. But, it is not as nimble on narrow winding back road twisties which I love to drive. You can feel the result of the extra front-end weight in tight radius corners on narrow back roads in the M40i. The 330i M Sport is far far easier to attack narrow roads and tight radius corners in. It was a blast to drive in that environment. And it is exactly that environment I like to drive in for exhilarating fun. In everyday driving the 330i M Sport has more than enough torque for easy highway passing/merging. The M40i just isn't worth a 13,000 dollar premium. It's way overpriced.

When I was seeking a new 2 series in 2019...drove the 230i xDrive and M240i xDrive "back to back". My conclusion was similar....while not as fast as the M240, the B48 4 cylinder was certainly fast enough, felt lighter and more nimble. Bought the 230 and even did some autocrossing and a track day or two. Enjoyed it immensely and didn't regret not going for the M40i variant. Today...we own a x3 M40i with the lovely B58 straight 6 / ZF 8 speed combo. It is powerful and silky smooth and love it in the SAV. For the Z4, I suspect however, I'd opt fo the 3.0i version...same nimbleness, sufficient power, less cost (buy and insure). Weight and cost saving would seem to make the 3.0 the optimal choice...for me!

Well i bought one, and my advice is Do Not! Issues and issues. Mirrors that don’t open after starting. A computer that keeps going back to fabric settings. After every update something doesn’t work. I have start hating it in 6 months.
