Nostalgia... Llegué 6:30 am a Singapur proveniendo de un autobus de 6 horas de Kuala Lumpur. Me despierto y aparezco en la increible little india. Un placer haberme hospedado en esta zona, bastante cerca de todo. Eso si, caminé unos 20-30 minutos con maletas para encontrar el hostal haha

I love this video. It shows a side to Singapore we don't often hear about. I think (to Australians), Singapore is seen as a very regimented and soulless place full of big shopping centres and amusement parks. This shows that the city indeed has a life and an interesting street culture, even if it is polarised in one part. Would love to see more of this evolving metropolis at ground level. Cafe's, food & restaurants (best in the world IMO), markets, clubs, public art, cultures of Asia and the West merging. Now Singapore has developed it's all-reaching global economy it's developing it's own unique spirit and vibrancy at a human scale.

OMG! The name Little India is no more appropriate for the Indian community there. It should be renamed to Little BIG India. I lived in Singapore until 1989. My Auntie used to sell liquor in Serangoon Road, In the 1950s you only see Indians in Little India and later in Sembawang. Now they are all over Singapore like the Chinese and Malays.

Alas there is no Little India in Sydney. Little India, Singapore might be a good alternative to India with its heat, over-population, poverty and crime? Lee Kwan Yew is a miracle worker compared to say Marcos of the Philippines.

I've noticed this too when I visited Singapore last week. Male to female ratio in Little India was literally 9:1 at least! Did they mainly leave their families behind to find work in Singapore or are they just very traditional in their gender roles and leave women at home? Even at Changi airport, you'd see hordes of Indian men and few to no Indian women. Anybody care to offer an explanation?
