I hope you aren’t making any judgements about Memphis from just driving the neighborhoods you have. Memphis is huge and they are doing a lot of work in many areas. Most people who live here are proud of their neighborhoods, even those of us who live in the poorer neighborhood.

One good thing about living or moving to Memphis is the fact that they have a lot of warehouses and factories which means a lot of job opportunities and not to mention trucks and distribution centers despite the high crime rate at least you would be making a good amount of money and getting paid FedEx is a major hub here in the city

Memphis has a terrible job market...who wants to work at a warehouse unless you have a trade you only making 7 or 8 bucks as hour..and most of these jobs lay off all the time...there are good industries but how are you exposed to these industries if you are not introduced to them...these jobs you are mentioning you need special training to even apply...and yes chrime is everywhere but it's hard to focus when it's this high sir...I myself have a trade but I speak for someone who made it on who visits frequently..and he didn't even go to the bad parts

Well, you certainly didn't take the scenic route ;-). Looks like you drove mostly Sumner and stayed away from a lot of the more interesting, older neighborhoods. All the same, my home is in Memphis - although I've been away for goin on three years now - but it was still fun to see you drive through one of the hoods.

Driver starts his recording on Summer Ave. (Northeast of Poplar corridor aka "Wealth Row"), traveling down Summer (Nutbush & Highland Heights neighborhoods on camera right side & East Memphis, Berclair & High Point neighborhoods on camera left side). He then turns down Tillman into one of our urban zones called Binghampton where he first notices police cams on the light posts throughout the neighborhood. Tillman eventually takes him to the Midtown leg of Poplar Avenue where he spots the socio-economic "contrast" going from one zip code area to the next. From Poplar/Tillman into Poplar/East Parkway: Overton Park/Cooper Young (Affluent upper-middle class area with poverty zones around all of its borders)(Midtown IS the area experiencing the most Gentrification to keep "certain" socio-economic demographics of people out). Driver turns down East Parkway into the Liberty Bowl/Fairgrounds/South Midtown zone headed into my old neighborhood/urban zone called Orange Mound (I am a 1984 graduate of Melrose High School: Golden Wildcats) as he turned on Park Ave. & commuted right into the football stadium (Melrose) & the community center section of our zone/zip code. There are many "opinions" about the most "dangerous/high crimes" areas in Memphis. As a Native now living elsewhere, I can tell you with certainty that any area/zone that sits north & south of the Poplar Ave./Walnut Grove/Union Ave. corridors are poverty zones (disenfranchised) & all of those "hoods" are crime-escalated, NOT JUST Orange Mound! Raleigh-Frayser/North Memphis zones, Nutbush/Highland Heights, Binghampton, Castalia (Young Dolph shooting)/South Memphis zones, Hickory Hill/Fox Meadows/Parkway Village (Old East Memphis: "white flight"), Oakhaven, Whitehaven, Westwood. WHEREVER there is socio-economic struggle/regression, there will be 10:00 p.m. news "breaking headlines" including Downtown Memphis (tourist zone) which is bordered by both North & South Memphis! Poverty & recidivism are the factors at play and Gentrification IS NOT the solution! Jahleel Eli

I'm from Memphis born and raised 56 years and I still don't know where the hell I'm going half the time. I got lost bad about a month ago and it took me over 3 hours to get somewhere I recognized. I started on Central took a short cut and drove all the way somehow to Whitehaven then to Frayser and back somewhere in Midtown heading south back near Whitehaven then somehow to Southern near downtown by the train depot and had my weed dude on the phone trying to get me unlost or at least to the in interstate or something. It was fucked up to say the least and I was actually kinda paranoid cause it was like 2 in the morning and I had turned around in some bad residential hoods and folks were looking at me like I crazy or just suicidal. Truth is I was drunker than Cooter Brown!!! If I saw something like S Pkwy, Bellevue, Watkins or Lauderdale I never failed to turn the wrong damn way. Learn a lesson though... Stay the fuck at home!

Trying to find a place to rent in Memphis is really rough. There is not enough affordable housing. So one bedrooms that will rent for around $800 in Houston TX rent for $1300 or higher in Memphis. They are considered "luxury" in Memphis when they are only decent places to live everywhere else. Everything else is substandard. the homeowners have capitalized on this by renting rooms in their homes for $800 or higher. They will have every spare bedroom rented at this rate when their mortgage is $800

Orange mound is more than a street. It spans many blocks, you drove on park Ave. Try take a detour into the residential parts, you will see way more danger. Orange mouns is bad, but far from the worst parts. South and North Memphis is worse. Frayser is way worse and Raleigh is equal to Orange Mound. I would also say that Parkway Village is just as bad, if not worse than OM. One area you do not want to go after darks is North Memphis (Chelsea, Hollywood, Klondike) you are lucky if you get out in one piece. Orange Mound has a hyped up reputation.

The "Parkways" were originally a loop around the city. You drove on East Parkway in the later part of the video. These roads were were built starting in 1904 and was completed in 1906. When you were driving on Tillman you drove through the western portion of Binghamton. Orange Mound is one of the original black communities in the city. it is located mostly along Park Avenue east of Lamar avenue. It is a little rough but far nicer than some of the areas on the south side and southwest side of the city. There are also rough area on the north side and Frayser. Also add Whitehaven on the south side and Hickory Hill. Elvis' Graceland is located in Whitehaven on US 51. I lived in Memphis until late 1990 and I was last there in1998. Is memphis as bad as Chicago with gang/killings?
@BlakeGeometrio
@BlakeGeometrio Жыл бұрын
Idk since I've never been to Chicago, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be here. There's crime and gang activity, but it's not as crazy as people make it out to be.

I live in Memphis. It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be in terms of crime. Orange Mound ain't that bad, either. However, this place is dirt poor but there's a lot of gentrification and development happening here, so maybe it'll get better (I doubt it. It'll probably have the opposite effect.) Idk. I hate this place. There are no real opportunities here.

To act like crime is worse here than any other city of the same size or bigger is ridiculous and ignorant. You also shouldn't make judgements just from driving through neighborhoods or what you've heard or seen on TV. Unless you lived there or have spent significant time there you should probably be quiet. I have spent time there and even in the parts YOU would call "dangerous" I haven't had bad experiences or felt unsafe. From your other videos there are cities that YOU would probably call safe that have the same type of crime or worse, especially in Florida, are you kidding me?! Every part of that state all throughout. 😂😂 And all major cities have poverty and crime issues, most of them worse.

These people did zero research on this city and then chose more distressed areas to drive through. Also he kept saying he was “heading to orange mound” and then drives in the entirely wrong direction. Who are these people?
