I regret that I skipped Pikes Peak when i drove by it in September 2022 during my New York-California road trip. I just completed a 10-day road trip across the country, and I was able to make a big detour to go see America's Mountain. As I've just done the biggest road of my life, I will have lots of videos from that, with the first video in the next few weeks. Enjoy!

I have been up there twice by car. Dad drove Mom and I, 1955, and there was a snow storm and the wipers got stuck and we couldn’t turn around … petrifying. Then I went up myself, 1972, in a Volkswagen Beetle. Stick shift. So your trip was memorable and nostalgic. Appreciated! Much the same from what I remembered in views and the roadway.

I understand your fear. I was driving a rental car that I already had driven for several days, and the engine was having issues the previous day. Fortunately, there were no issues on this day driving up the mountain.

I need to look at this area on a map because I find it interesting that going up the road is southbound and going down it is northbound. Your brakes get a beating on these roads. Thanks for another great drive! And thanks for the bonus at the end!

Did you pull over a million times in this video because of your hot brakes?
@unclecoolie5 ай бұрын
I did. I tried just using low gears at first, but the car was actually going too slowly, so I switched to regular drive shortly after starting my descent from the summit. Even though I pulled over several times to let them cool a bit, the woman at the brake checkpoint, about midway down, told me that they were way to hot and recommended that I pull over for 15 minutes to let them cool, and to go back to using the low gears, which I did. I pushed the gas to get it up to 20-25MPH, which pushed the RPM up to about 4k, but I also saved on the breaks. I remembered on the way up that there was a section where it was flatter, so on the way down, I drove in normal drive before returning to low gears for the final descent to the entrance.

can you install the camera higher to have a better view?
@unclecoolie5 ай бұрын
I had it as high as it could go. I sometimes wish that the viewing angle wasn't so much, but the only way to shrink it would be to downgrade the resolution (1080p), and I absolutely don't want to do that. I will be exploring newer cameras for future road trips.

Rather stupid what they did with that visitor center if you ask me because when I was there the whole summit was wide open,you could walk anywhere you wanted to and now is small block parking areas,they advertise a reservation time system that’s obviously not used and what’s in the center is rather useless information.

YES! Thanks for showing this and great view! Welcome back! Hope you upload more! Anyway this might be long comment. Not related to this but what If I tell you that I am the sole proprietor (someone who owns unincorporated businesses by themselves) as a photo editor since 2020 working at home? Let me tell you about how I became the sole proprietor. Back in 2019, the year when I graduated high school when I was 18 years old at the time, I was working at Pier 1 Imports as a cashier. It only lasted a year (2020) when all the people were laid off and the company filed for bankruptcy due to the height of the COVID-19 which led all stores liquidated and closed. So I didn't have many options after that. Someone told me that I should work as a photo editor at home. So I did and I was thinking "how to make money?" So the way I make money is this: People sent me photos and ask what photo edit do you want. Then I made a photo edit and sent it back. If they like it, they can send me no less than $1. If they're not satisfied, they can ask me to redo it or don't send money, no questions asked. So yeah that's how I become the sole proprietor working at home which I still do today. All that money that I saved for vacation, mainly on holidays, and gifts since my parents had to pay a lot of bills including home mortgage.
@unclecoolie5 ай бұрын
Thanks! That's awesome! The demand for photo editing is only getting stronger. Same with video editing. Many of the top YT content creators hire video editors to do their editing. (I don't make enough on this channel to afford to pay a separate editor.) Keep up the good work. There may come a time that I might reach out to you for work.
