Y'all... 😂 I didn't have a chance to look at comments the day I uploaded this vlog. Imagine my surprise, waking up this morning to so many interesting discussions. (Particularly the argument about judging the USA 😅.) I really appreciate how concerned y'all are for my safety. I am even more appreciative for those who related thier concern in a polite manner. 💙 Sometimes we forget how to speak nicely when we are on the internet. There probably isn't a perfect solution for the seatbelt, but this is the best option for me. When I am driving it still rests on my shoulder, but directly under my port rather than on top of it. It's better than forfeiting the diagonal strap all together! ☝️ I will make a more conscious effort to keep the adjuster positioned in a way so that the seatbelt is on my shoulder, but just below my port. I shared what works for me in the hope that it may be useful to others, but in no way am I pressuring people to follow my exact choices. 🚫 If I made a video stating I was stopping all medications/treatments without a doctors support, I'm not culpable if someone does the same because I am not responsible for the actions of others. 🤷‍♀️ My channel is about sharing my life, spreading awareness and connecting to others. It's not about providing a model of what YOUR life should look like, because we are all different. Take the info from my videos for what it is, and make choices for yourself based on what YOU believe is best. 💕 Much love to you all!

I'm glad you found something that works for you. Try not to take the criticisms to heart, your friends just worry. Since I don't work is transportation safety, I can't tell you whether it's safe or not (just like everyone else), so do what works best for you. By the way, you looked FABULOUS in that outfit! Sending lots of love from another chronic pain warrior.

I understand the desire to find a comfortable way to wear your seat belt, but bringing it down the way it is with this device is putting you at risk of severe injury in case of an accident, just like wearing it under your arm would. It is no longer on strong bones that can withstand the force of an impact and no longer holds your torso in place to prevent it from being propelled forward and slamming into something. This is not safe.

Agreed, I know someone who is paralyzed because they were driving like this and got in an accident. The doctors said that had she been using the seatbelt correctly then she would have come out completely unscathed.

I understand how the seatbelt would bother your port but if you’re in an accident your upper body is not going to be held in place by that seatbelt... it’s in the same place as when it’s under your arm except it’s not under. I hope you can find a different solution. That device can definitely work as a solution to short people because they’re using it to move the seatbelt in it’s proper place. This case is the opposite :/
@maeveneary9381

yes but it is a lot safer than her either moving it every three seconds, or having it bugging her or hurting her in which case her focus is going to be less on the road. also like she said she doesn't drive that much its mostly just for on occasion when she does. plus, like the seatbelt coverer its not perfect but its what she has for now so maybe sometime in the future she'll find one that works better.

I’m glad to see you feel well enough to drive!! That’s one task I greatly miss the most these last 6 years!! That device you have, unfortunately, renders your seatbelt almost useless. AND because the straps aren’t located in the correct position, it’s even more dangerous to your body!! This is exactly why I gifted you my seat belt strap cover for your port! It allows you to wear the seatbelt appropriately AND provide the added comfort you need for your port area. The cover I sent you was made with extra padding for this purpose. With that in mind, it’s important to wash it every few weeks. It will clean the fabric and allow the padding to help plump back up. If you forgot the washing instructions I sent with it, wash it in cold water and dry on low heat. And I do still offer free port protectors, people just need to message me through my IG Kel_Hornberger. (I’m in the process of developing a website for Kelley’s Cuddle Cottage). With all of that said, I do encourage you, as well as your viewers, to wear seat belts properly for safety’s sake! And if you need an extra protector or two Jaquie, just reach out to me! Blessings!!

I think its great Jacquie that you found something that works for you. I have MCTD, it's a rare auto-immune that has components of Scleroderma, polyomyocitis and lupus. I'm also only 4'8" tall and have had my neck cut by a seatbelt. People with chronic illness have to make choices everyday about their health and safety and do the best they can. The best she can do is wear her seatbelt the way she wears it. Everytime someone puts food in their mouth their is a risk of choking, should you be told not to eat. Shes doing the best that she can to be as safe as she can.

If you have one of those seatbelt covers why not just put it on the drivers side and use it? That thing you’re using makes your seatbelt completely unsafe, surprised the police haven’t pulled you over yet.

Thank you for sharing, Jaquie. I definitely need to get one of those. And before someone tells me how you think it's dangerous...Stop Typing. Having an accident and it causing my larynx to be crushed or cutting my throat and bleeding out is even more dangerous. At 5'7" I'm not short, but the seat belt slides up until it is on my neck and my skin is extra sensitive and prone to damage due to psoriasis and 2 other autoimmune diseases. It gets so bad I keep pulling at it and it is a dangerous distraction while driving. Love to you, Jaquie, Judd and Harlow and I'm so excited for you watching your new house being built!!! Thanks for being so inspiring. My health issues are different but still suffer with chronic pain 24/7/365. Your attitude has helped me in dealing with my own health. God bless you! 💙💚❤💛🧡💜 🐱🐾🐾

What a fantastic idea and thanks so much for showing us this. I have been putting the seatbelt on but taking the strap and putting it behind my back so all I had was my lap restrainted. I don’t know how safe it is but I have been putting the seat belt under my arm like you first demonstrated. My Spinal Cord injuries don’t allow me to wear it normally because the pressure of the seat belt on my neck is to much due to the severe pain it causes.

That’s very cool😎. A few people and I sew masks and simple little pillows with a loop of velcro attached that can be placed over your line or feeding tube on seat belt. I get my ivig, iron, and xolair in the cancer treatment center at my hospital and place these at all of the mask stations. Mine is 2”x3”. It is smalleryours and can easily be thrown in a pocket or purse in case you have more than one car. I find my broviac is quite a bit more sensitive than my port ever was, so the extra pillow cushioning really helps.

Oh my gosh, this is awesome! I’m short AND have a pacemaker, and the seat belt really hurts my chest because it presses on the tissue around the pacemaker. I’ll have to do some research into how safe these are to use, but to be honest, I don’t feel safe with the seatbelt right over my pacemaker either. If I was in an accident, I feel like my heart / chest could be seriously injured by the seatbelt yanking on my pacemaker.

Echoing what everyone else said. Those devices are not safe when used this way. It means if you get in an accident, it won't stop your upper body from flying forward. It'll basically just cut into your arm. Please stick with the guard like you have on the passenger side.

I hope you don't have an accident because, although better than nothing, obviously, the seatbelt worn like that won't do much to save you. I'm surprised that it's even legal but it's the USA so they don't care much about people's safety.
@DangerHob
@DangerHob 5 жыл бұрын
Actually fun fact! That is a little bit closer to where it should be riding to avoid seat belt injuries in case of an accident. The closer the seat belt sits to your neck the increased possibility of neck injury. It's more recommended to wear the seat belt closer to the outside of your shoulder but that's just harder for ladies because of their anatomy.

Thanks Jacquie! I forwarded this to Mary of "The Frey Life" who's also a daily Vloggers with C.F., a feeding tube and a port and she's tiny like you! So thanks for spreading the word about this product....wish I knew about it when I had my port! Lol's. Although I know the pain you're in and it's the one thing us "Lymies" hate to hear but.......you still look as beautiful as ever. Does the humidity affect your pain levels or the almost daily drop in barometric pressure from afternoon rain storms in Florida? I'm looking to get out of the Antarctic of the East Coast, northern Maine and my body didnt do well in humidity before my diagnosis so i was just wondering. Does a/c help if it does bother you? Thanks. Love and Blessings, Grannie Annie from Maine

Altering the way the seatbelt sits on your body is dangerous! They're designed to push against certain parts of your body to keep you safe in an accident. Using that thing is going to make you get more hurt if you're involved in a crash.

You might as well just not be wearing a seatbelt with that device I understand how it can rub on your port and be uncomfortable but having the seatbelt down like that is not safe, if you get in an accident you will go all the way forward and get hurt because you have no protection to your upper chest. Not trying to sound rude though, just looking at for you. I hope you can find a solution that still keeps you safe 😊

that does NOT look safe, comfort is one thing, but seat belts are designed to sit where they are to keep you safe and alive. I would NOT recommend using it for that reason, for your friend who is shorter sure, as long as it sits in the proper positions on your body, but in your case, it will most likely do more harm then good.

I use a seatbelt cover so it doesn't rub against my neck. Maybe i should try this. Because for now, I have to drive for a living. I sometimes don't wear a seatbelt when I'm in pain as the clip is right at my hips where my ovarian cyst are causing a lot of pain and my back hurts too so any slight movement pulling the seatbelt across me makes it worse. Of course i am plus sized so I'm closer to the wheel. I have thought about this for my sister too as my dad has to pull the seat belt and hook it on the door away from her for this reason.
