In 1988, I moved to a new home in Ivanhoe....Bruce ran a news agency nearby.My Team is Melbourne...and the Dees made the GF, that year. My wife, Louise, went down to Bruce’s shop, and whilst requesting a ‘Weg’ poster, if the Dees won....asked Bruce, if he knew anything about Football?!🙄He replied, ‘Not much’ Lol!

Bruce is a far more fascinating character than every loudmouth I've ever known.

i am not a Carlton fan , however he is the number one player I want to be inducted as a legend in the hall of fame. The best defender Ive seen ever

He was my local postman in Brunswick. We always used to chat although he didn't say to much. Really nice man

As a kid (and still now) he was my all time favourite player. I grew up in Heidelberg and Bruce owned the Newsagents at Lower Plenty shops. I would ride my Bike about 8 or 10 kms to his shop on Monday morning to buy the Sun on weeks when Carlton had won. I always went in very excited (thinking i was the only person who did this) to congratulate him on the win. He would thank me for my well wishes each time in gis usual 2 or 3 words. Thrn go about his business. I would go home with my Sun under.my arm to study the stats..all the time being on cloud 9 following my 2 minutes with Bruce. A true legend of the game..Amazing club man and genuine lovely. bloke.

I remember he had the Newsagency in Ivanhoe in the late 80's. I used to buy the paper of him before catching the train into the city. Did that for ages and tried to coax a few words out of him but never succeeded. You would get hello and goodbye, thats about it.

Couldn't believe it when I saw he'd agreed to do this. Now I understand. What an absolute legend, one of the best you'll ever see.

I watched Bruce Doull for 14 years and the more I reflect on that the more I realise that he was ahead of his time. He would get the ball at half back, run and then drill a beautiful drop punt like pass into the forward line. As good as I have seen!

Great comment. Blues fan here and massive 'Flying Doormat' fan too. Many great memories of watching and meeting my hero back in the day. Your bloke, Jim Jess (The Ghost) used to amaze me when we met the Tiges. Loyalty, drive, ability, heart and could boot it a mile, mate he had it all.....Absolute champion.

if he was able to be stat tracked like today's footballer he would be the text book version you would teach all kids with halfback potential. Inspirational Team Leader , Amazing Game Vision , Text Book Halfback , A Great 1% Player Also . Might just add that my number 1 player for 1% play was Wayne Harmes when he miss kicked and then got his own kick before it went out of bounds and slapped it 20 meters to the goal square to Ken Sheldon I think was something i can still see with my eyes closed today Carn The Blues
@tonenotrequired8626Ай бұрын
Harmes tapped it back into play to Ken Sheldon not Ken Hunter.

@jackmag4056 I'd love to have heard a few sentences from Bruce about driving to training and games over the years. What kind of wheels he owned. You could see how familiar all the roads and avenues around Carlton and Princes Park were to Bruce -- and all the blokes who did speak.
